The Atas pastry of Tiong Bahru...

Although they have been around for quite some time (like a few years), but I have not given them a try until recently. Therefore, after walking past the same place over and over again, I think that it's time for me to give them a good try. Hence...

For a start, this is a 'No-No'. First 'No', is for the way they are
presenting this. I was expecting a tea pot set rather than this. This
is a great disappointment. On top of that, the way they are packaging
the tea leaves is another big 'No'. It would be better if they have
provided a filter to separate out the tea leaves, otherwise if you are
a slow drinker, the first few cups will ended up to be far too thick
or yucky and the subsequent cups will ended up to be far too thin or
tasteless. Either ways, I personally find the free flow of water over
here to be a far more better choice than the tea.

'Almond Croissant'
Though it has the shape of a 'Croissant', but this is pretty ugly for
a 'Croissant'. Covered with a layer of icing sugar and a few slices of
almonds, the interior is unbelievably good. Despite of the ugly exterior,
the interior is both moist and delicious. And it comes with a nice almond
filling, which tends to explodes in my mouth when I took a bite off the
'Croissant'. The texture of the 'Croissant' is pretty good, but I think
that the amount of icing sugar that has been added is slightly a bit too
much, which makes it a bit too sweet.

'Kouign Amann'
This reminds me or a whirlpool, especially when there doesn't seems to be
a end to the curvy lines on top of the 'Kouign Amann'. I wonder if it can
really create a whirlpool inside my mouth. In fact, I almost mistake this
for a 'Cinnamon Pastry Roll'. :D After spending a bit of time examing this
I finally found the best way to savour this. By cutting along the curvy lines
would be the best way to take it apart. Coated with 'Caramel' and contains
an acceptable portion of 'Butter' and 'Sugar', makes the overall taste of this
crispy cake to be pretty delicious and at the same time not too sweet. :D
That's probably one of the reasons why everyone is ordering this that day.

So where can you give the nice pastries a good try?
Tucked in a small corner would be the...

'Tiong Bahru Bakery'.
Anyway they have a few outlets island wide, as for the one shown in the above,
would be their first outlet in Singapore, which is located along 'Eng Hoon Street'.
That outlet is also located near 'Tiong Bahru Market'. :)

Nonya delights coming to a place near you...

When I was a kid, it's pretty hard to come across a place selling all your Nonya Kueh or goodies. However, it seems that there's a chain of stalls in Singapore that specialize in preparing and selling these Nonya Kueh.

'Kueh Dadar'
Loaded with a big portion of 'grated coconut' and 'palm sugar', wrapped
in steamed egg pancake skin, this is a nice 'Kueh' to begin with. The
sweetness is something that I like, though it might be a bit too much
but I like the taste of coconut and palm sugar. (I got to admit that
I have a sweet tooth.)

'Chendol Agar Agar'
All the goodness that you are getting in a bowl of 'Chendol' has been
remake and recompiled into this small little cube. Though it did bring
about all the 'Chendol' goodness, but this small little cube just isn't
sufficient to satisfy my crave for a bowl of 'Chendol' especially when
I'm staying near 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

So where can you give these 'Kueh' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Chinta Manis'.
The above shows the outlet located on basement 1 of 'Tiong Bahru Plaza'.

Opening Hours:
  • Depending on the location of the outlet, the opening hours varies. For the outlets inside the shopping malls, the opening hours will start from early afternoon to 9pm.

I don't remember having a....

I have been staying in the 'Tiong Bahru area' for ages and I don't remember seeing a stall branded with 'Tiong Bahru Bak Chor Mee' until the recent years.

'肉脞面'(Bar Chor Mee a.k.a Minced Meat Noodles)
Since it dares to brand itself with the word 'Tiong Bahru', I die die must
give it a good try. Okay the bowl of noodles are covered by a good mix of
ingredients. There's braised mushrooms, lettuce, minced meat, meat ball and
also pork liver. Though it might appear to be a bit soupy because of the
amount of chilli sauce added, but it's a completely different situation
after spending a bit of time stirring and mixing it...

After all the stirring, it's time to dig into the bowl of Noodles. The noodles
didn't end up to be soggy at all. In fact, it still has the chewy sensation and
on top of that, the tasty ingredients and the chilli sauce blend in pretty well
too. Besides for the bowl of Noodles, I think it's a must for me to describe
how good the handmade meat balls that they were selling over were. The
meat balls are so good that reminds me of...

Stephen Chow's movie '食神'(The God of Cookery) from back then. That's right the
meat balls are so juicy and delicious (though I'm not sure if they can bounce as
much as those in the movie) that they are on par with the 'Fu Zhou Fish Ball'.
Therefore the 'meat balls' are something that one must try when he/she is giving
the food from this stall a try.

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this stall would be '中峇鲁潮州肉脞面'.
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Opening Hours:
  • Probably 09:00 - 14:00 Daily
Basically breakfast & lunch hours only

So sinful yet so good...

One don't really need to eat a large portion of food to grow fat, there are dishes in Singapore that are so so sinful, yet it tastes so good. Here comes the...

'Roasted meat and Char Siew (Barbecued Meat) Rice'
From far, what you will be getting will be a plate loaded with a small portion
of rice covered with a generous portion of meat and a mixture of both dark and
chilli sauce. Well, let's take a close look, shall we?

Usually, I don't really like to place an order for a plate of 'Roasted Meat'.
This is due to the fact that most of the time, the meat will ended up to be
pretty stiff and a bit too dry, which isn't something that I like.

As for the 'Roasted Meat' over here, it doesn't end up to be too stiff, in
fact, the meat still remains to be pretty tender and chewy. On top of that,
though it only comes with a bit of skin, the skin are remarkably crispy. :P
It fact, you don't really need the extra scoop of 'dark sauce' to gobble down
the whole plate of 'Roasted Meat' and rice. However, the thick 'dark sauce' is
not only sweet. The fragrance is pretty nice and on top of it, it can enhance
the overall taste of the 'Roasted Meat' even much more further.

By the way, the moist 'Char Siew' over there are pretty tasty too. It's not
over roasted but at the same time, it has this nice smoky touch. :) Not too
bad for a stall in a 'Hawker Centre'. :)

So where can you give these delicacies a good try?
The name of this stall would be
'Tiong Bahru Lee Hong Kee Cantonese Roasted'(中峇魯李鴻記廣東燒臘).
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

No interest in the genuinity...

Frankly speaking, regardless of the genuinity of this stall, whether it has a long history or not, the most important thing about an ordinary food stall and/or a classy restaurant would be the food that they are serving over there.

'Char Siew and Roasted Meat Rice'
Initially I have placed an order for a plate of roasted meat rice, but I ended
up going for an extra portion of 'Char Siew'(barbecued pork meat) too. And...

Just by taking a good look at the texture of the slices of 'Char Siew', you can
identify how reflective they were. I believe that the more reflective they were,
the more juicier the slices of 'Char Siew' were. Hence reflective means juicer
meat but too reflective means too raw... But the 'Char Siew' over here were
amazingly good. Not only they were juicy, they were both chewy and tasty too.

As for the roasted meat, the crispy skin is a big (+) but I don't really like the
stiff meaty part of the roasted meat. Though it's not as stiff as similar stalls
out there but I'm just not into this type of roasted meat. Too bad they didn't
sell the skin part separately else I would like to go for the skin only.

Anyway, don't forget about the different types of sauces that they are offering
over here. The sweet and dark sauce blends with the meat slices pretty well but
I would strongly encourage you to go for the nice combination of the dark sauce
and the not too watery chilli sauce. In fact the sauce combination is so good
that I could easily finish the whole plate of rice with it. :D

So where can you give this sinful plate of rice a good try?
The name of this stall would be
'Original Tiong Bahru Golden Pig & Roasted'(正宗中峇鲁金豬燒腊).
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    07:00 - 20:00 Daily
  • On a separate note, if you have been staying in the 'Tiong Bahru' area for a long period of time, you would know that 'Tiong Bahru Market' is infamous for the Chinese roasted golden pig, which is a must have for a Chinese celebration. ;P Therefore after the major makeover of 'Tiong Bahru Market', it seems that there are more and more stalls specializing in preparing and selling roasted meat. So which stall is the trend setter? I don't really care.

Begin to understand...

After giving the same stall more than 5 tries, I think that I finally began to understand the reasons behind the long queue.

'Fishball Noodles'
Based on the appearance, one can easily identify something. This particular stall
over here is making their own 'Fish Ball' and 'Fish Cake'. All of them are irregular
in shape. As for the soup, it's pretty bland and not to my liking.

So what's the secret behind the long queue?
If you are a 'Noodle' lover, you can give this stall a try. However, if you prefer
'Kway Teow' more than 'Noodles' or 'Mee Pok', I think that you might probably want
to skip this stall. I was observing very closely and it seems that they are cooking
the 'Noodles' for a much more longer period of time, therefore the 'Kway Teow' will
ended up to be soggy and dull, which doesn't really happen for 'Mee Pok'. In fact,
I have given the 'Mee Pok' a try and it turned out to be chewy and springy in texture.
However, another good thing about the 'Fishball Noodles' over here would be the
generous portion of fresh ingredients that they have added into a bowl of 'Noodles'.
And not only they are fresh, the fishballs are pretty bouncy and chewy too. Best of
all, if you mixed all the ingredients thoroughly, you will be amazed how easily this
small little bowl of 'Noodles' can satisfy your taste bud. :D

So where can you give the 'Fishball Noodles' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Teochew Fishball Noodle Dry/Soup'(潮州粿條麺乾/湯).
It's located on level 2 of 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Half a head of Curry (Closed)

Since I have managed to knock off early and rather than having my dinner at the coffee shop opposite, I decided to go for nicer stuff. I ended up having this for dinner...

'A sizzling Claypot of Fishhead Curry'
When I was working around this area, I have given the 'Curry Chicken' and 'Curry Fish
Meat' a try before. Since I haven't been eating 'Curry Fishhead' for a very very long
time, I have decided to do something crazy and I have ended up placing an order for
a Claypot of 'Curry Fishhead'. Even though it's merely half a fishhead, but the portion
is big enough for an individual. Anyway since all the Fishhead Curry are not prepared
upfront, that means upon ordering the 'Curry Fishhead' you will have to wait for
another 20 minutes or more for the food to be delivered to your table.

Here's a closer look of the 'Curry Fishhead'. Vegetables like 'Yam', 'Tau Pok'
(a type of fried Beancurd), 'Lady Finger' have been added into this dish.
And probably because all the ingredients aren't boiled for too long, therefore
most of the ingredients still have this crunchy touch. On top of that, the
sizzling thick curry is pretty yummy and it's a little bit spicy. However, the
excitement that I'm getting from the 'Curry' have slowly decrease as the pot
of Curry cool down. One should always finish up the Curry when it's hot. :P

Even though I'm getting half a fishhead only, but the portion that I'm
getting is pretty generous and the flesh of the fishhead is pretty fresh.
However, even though the flesh of the fishhead is pretty fresh, but
probably due to the fact that all the ingredients aren't cooked long
enough, therefore the taste of the 'Curry' haven't blend into the flesh
of the fishhead completely. The Curry have blend into the vegetables
completely, but not for the flesh of the Fishhead, which is a big
disappointment. For a 'Fishhead Curry', this have definitely failed
miserably, but if you considered it as 2 separate dish, it have actually
fared pretty good.

So where can you give the delicious 'Curry' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Marina South Curry Delight'(濱海南咖喱魚頭).
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Notes:
  • Opening Hours:
    11:30 - 21:00 Daily
  • Besides for 'Curry Fishhead', they are preparing some other 'Curry' dishes like 'Curry Chicken', 'Curry Mutton', 'Curry Pork Ribs' and 'Curry Vegetables'.
  • By the way, if business was good, they might be closed before 7pm. So in order to avoid disappointment, you probably want to pop by the stall very early. :D

Greenish Chicken

Rather than going for the same old stuff that I have been eating at 'Tiong Bahru Market', I have decided to give something new a try again. (Although I called it new, but it's not really that new. I have eaten it before, I think.) The following shows my dinner last weekend...

'Thai Food'
Although I have been eating 'Thai Food' quite often recently, but I just
couldn't resist the smell and taste of it. As for my dinner that night, I
have ordered a bowl of 'Green Curry Chicken', a plate of 'Thai-Style
Spring Roll' and also a plate of rice.

'Thai-Style Spring Roll'
Although most of the ingredients that was added into this 'Spring Roll'
was mainly vegetables (Bean sprouts, Carrots, Cabbages, etc...), but the
taste of it is pretty terrible. I think it's mainly caused by the bean
sprouts that were not wash and prepare properly. On top of that, the skin
of the 'Spring Roll' is slightly a bit too thick. Although the peanuts
that go with the dish is pretty okay, but the overall taste still remains
to be pretty yucky.

'Green Curry Chicken'
Speaking of 'Thai food', the first few dishes that will pop out of my mind
are dishes like 'Tom Yum Soup', 'Green Curry Chicken', etc... And ever since
my first encounter with 'Green Curry Chicken', it have always been on my mind.
Basically the taste of the curry itself, is pretty sweet and at the same time
not spicy at all. And most of the time, the texture of the curry is pretty
thick. On top of that, meat and vegetables will also be added to the curry,
which makes it ultra yummy. This dish is so good that the curry itself blends
with white rice pretty well and the taste of the ingredients were delicious.
After I have finished all the rice and the ingredients, I have also gone for
the green curry too. The taste of the curry is so good that I have emptied
the whole bowl of it.

So where can you give all these 'Thai Food' a try?
The name of this stall is 'Galamang Thai-Viet'.
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Vegetarian Food around the corner

Besides being the closest stall located near my previous workplace, this is also one of the best vegetarian stall around that area too. Introducing...

'Vegetarian Bee Hoon'
I'm pretty lucky, as I'm placing my orders, the owner of this stall was in the
midst of preparing a fresh wok of 'Bee Hoon'. After 5~10 minutes waiting,
the stall owner finally placed a plate of 'Bee Hoon' in front of me. Although
the variety of ingredients that the stall owner has added into the plate of
'Bee Hoon' isn't that great, but I can assure you that the taste is pretty
delicious. For a start, I love the crispy brown pieces of 'Beancurd'-alike
ingredient. The red coloured meat-alike ingredient are pretty nice too. On
top of all these ingredients, the green chillies that was also added are
pretty good. Seriously I don't think that I would have any difficulties
finishing the whole plate of 'Bee Hoon' even if I only ask for the 'Bee Hoon'
and green chillies only. (Kinda weird but that's simply how good the 'Bee Hoon'
and the green chillies are. :P)

The name of this stall would be 'Zai Xing Vegetarian'(在興素食).
It's located inside the coffee shop beneath Block 56, Tiong Poh Road.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Mondays - Fridays: 8am - 2pm
(As for the weekends, I don't think they are open for business.)
  • If you are looking for budget meals, ask for the cheaper set meals. You can also select the ingredients that you want, but take note of the prices the ingredients that you have selected.

Growing Up with Noodles...

Since I have been staying in the same area for the last 20 over years, though it have also undergone a lot of changes, but there ought to be a few places that continues to give me an instant rush of nostalgia. :P

'Fishball Noodles'
This would be one of the place that still continues to make me feel
quite nostalgia. Back then, most of my lunch were taken over here.

But what's so special about this place?
Well, although this place was a coffee shop, but the variety of food
that they are offering over here are pretty limited. As for myself,
I always go for the 'Fishball Noodles'. :P (I am a big fan of Noodles.)

Anyway, each bowl of 'Fishball Noodles' was relatively cheap and as you
can see, the amount of ingredients that was given were pretty generous.
As for the bowl of 'Noodles', it isn't too dry or too wet, which makes
the stirring process much more easier. In fact, since I love spicy
stuff, therefore I will pour all the various types of chilli into the
bowl and mixed them together. Although bean sprouts were not given, but
the taste of the chewy Noodles were so delicious that I finished it
within minutes. And the ridiculously hilarious point would be the fact
that I have emptied the bowl of Noodles and the whole bowl of soup and
ingredients still remain untouched. :P The taste of the ingredients
are pretty acceptable and the 'Fishballs' are pretty bouncy. Most
importantly the 'Fishballs' are pretty fresh and it doesn't come with
a fishy smell.

So where can you give this delicious bowl of 'Fishball Noodles' a try?
The name of this coffee shop would be 'Hua Bee Restaurant'(華美餐室).
It's located near 'Tiong Bahru Market'.
Although this place isn't facilitated with air-conditioning and the
interior is slightly a bit too gloomy, who cares about all these
unimportant stuff when the food over here are pretty amazing. :D

    6am - 6pm Daily

Brothers in Arms...

I grown up pretty much the same way as everyone else. If I have the time and money back then, I will hangout at my favourite spot after school. And my favourite hangout spot have something to do with...

'Eating'.

"Pig's Organ Soup"
This used to be one of my favourite selection back then and
although the price of the soup had gone up, but I still find
it to be pretty delicious.

Setting aside the delicious and salty 'Salted
vegetables', the rest of the ingredients are mainly pig organs.
There's pork stomach, meat balls, intestines, livers, etc...
The fresh ingredients and the sweet taste of the clear-less soup is a
plus and best of all, the soup isn't powder-ish or pepper-ish at all.
I knew that this might sound a bit silly, but usually I try to avoid
the step of adding additional flavours into the things that I'm going
to eat. (Except for chilli. Some dishes just doesn't end up to be that
great, if chilli is missing. Ex: 'Chilli Crab', 'Sambal Kang Kong', etc...)

So where can you give this dish a try?
The name of this stall is 'Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup'(徐兄弟猪什汤).
It's located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

Speaking of 'Tiong Bahru Market', I kinda miss the old 'Tiong Bahru Market'.
The old triangular array of hawkers, the old wet market, the cheap and good
food would be part of my unforgettable memories.

What is so special about Le Le Steamboat

Although this restaurant was located near my previous workplace, but I have never thought of giving it a a try especially when it seems to be slightly a bit too costly for lunch. However, since I was passing by this area pretty much over the past few months and the crowd inside this restaurant doesn't fail to attract my attention, probably it's time for me to give this restaurant a try. XD

This would be the soup of the day.
A steamboat pot with 2 partitions that has the 'Coconut Chrysanthemum'
soup on one side and the 'Herbal Chicken' soup on the other. First of
all the 'Coconut Chrysanthemum' soup is a complete mistake. The taste
of the soup is too bland and it's slightly a bit too boring. But luckily,
we have gone for the 'Herbal Chicken' soup too. Unlike the soup that some
of the steamboat restaurants out there are offering, the soup over here
gets thicker and richer as the waitresses top up the soup over and
over again. In fact the soup was so thick and delicious that I might
have probably gone for like 3 or 4 rounds of 'Herbal Chicken Soup'. :P
By the way, besides for 'Coconut Chrysanthemum' and 'Herbal Chicken'
soup, the other options are 'Laksa', 'Tom Yum', 'Szechuan Ma La' etc...

As compared to some other places out there that has an ingredient
bar and everyone will squeeze their way through, trying to grab all
the ingredients that they want, this place is pretty much similar
to those ala carte restaurant that requires you to place an order
for a fresh plate of ingredient. If I'm not mistaken, we ended up
finishing quite a lot of ingredients that night. There was numerous
plates of seafood, poultry meat, meat balls, etc... Oh before I
forget, besides for raw ingredients that requires a bit of cooking,
they also serve cooked dishes in the menu. There's a few 'Dim Sum'
items like dumplings, juicy meat buns, fried stuff like Chicken Wing,
'Man Tou', and much much more. XD In fact, I feel like visiting
them for another round of steamboat now.... :P (Drooling... D.N.D)

So what's the name of this place?

The name of this restaurant would be 'Le Le Pot'(乐乐锅).
It's located near 'Tiong Bahru Market', along 'Seng Poh Road'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Lunch: 11am - 3pm
    Dinner: 5pm - 11pm
  • By the way, please do remember to make a reservation before turning up at their doorstep. You definitely wouldn't want to step out of this place disappointed and with an empty stomach. :P

Law that can be eaten... :P

If you are a Noodles fanatic like me, you probably need to spend a very long time trying out all the different types of Noodles dishes out there. There simple common dishes like 'Fishball Noodles', 'Prawn Noodles', spicy stuff like 'Laksa', 'Chicken Curry Noodles'. Therefore...

'Lor Mee'
time for something different and that would be 'Lor Mee'.
So what's so special about 'Lor Mee'? Besides for the thick sticky gravy,
I guess the ingredients would be another speciality of this dish.

But what's so special about the 'Lor Mee' that I'm introducing today?
Firstly, unlike the other 'Lor Mee' out there, I don't find the gravy
too sticky. Secondly, they are offering 'Deep Fried Shark Fin' nugget
as a type of ingredient. Though I think the amount of 'Shark Fin' meat
included in each and every piece of nugget isn't a lot, the nugget
still appears to be very tasty. But, if you are a environmentalist, you
can still go for the normal bowl of 'Lor Mee', which is still relatively
delicious too. Last and not least, the overall taste of this dish. By
adding a bit of chilli padi and a bit of garlic into the dish, with the
nice aroma and taste of the 'Lor Mee', one could easily emptied a bowl
of 'Lor Mee' in minutes. :D

So where can you try this?

The name of the stall would be 'Lor Mee 178'(卤麵178).
This stall is located inside 'Tiong Bahru Market'.

The Past, The Present and The Future

In our life, we will be spending a lot of time looking into our past, thinking of our future and thinking of ways of enjoying our life to the fullest. As for myself, I think I'm spending too much time thinking about food and there are just some stalls that I have been consistently returning to...

Here comes...

This is a simple 'Kway Chap' set. I still can remember the days where I
used to have this for breakfast during the weekends, before I went for my
weekend classes. I enjoyed having this 'Kway Chap' set for lunch every
Wednesday with a bowl of yam rice back then when my previous workplace
was located near this place. When I went back to this stall recently, I
was informed by the stall owners that they have slightly changed the way
they work. Rather than providing yam rice on Wednesday only, they have
been preparing yam rice on a daily basis over the past few months. Too bad
my current workplace isn't located near this place any more.

So what are the ingredients that you are getting at this stall?
There are ingredients like braised hard boiled egg, preserved vegetables,
bean curd and various parts of a pig. Ex: pig intestines, pig skin,
pig meat... etc. As for taste wise, I wouldn't say that this is something
that is super delicious but it's still considerably good. Besides for the
large variety of ingredients that you are getting, the chilli that this
stall has prepared was pretty good too.

So where can you find this stall?

This would be the appearance of the stall. It is located in Tiong Bahru Market.
Besides for 'Kway Chap', this stall also serve duck rice, duck noodles and
duck porridge too. If I'm not mistaken, I think I have tried everything that
they have on their menu and my favourite item would be the duck rice that comes
with yam rice. That is a taste that I would never forget. :D

Note:
  • Besides for option of getting either a bowl of 'Kway' or a bowl of yam rice, you can also get a bowl of noodles to get with the 'Kway Chap' set too.
  • You can also try asking for the Belachan chilli that they have. It blends with the ingredients and the yam rice very well.
  • Operating Hours: 7am - 10pm daily

Irresistible~~~

I have written about a few different variants of Prawn Noodles a few weeks ago. Therefore I decided to write about a different type of Prawn Noodles or 'Fried Hokkien Mee'(炒福建蝦面).

Pictures first :D as usual...
A drier version of
'Fried Hokkien Mee'
(炒福建蝦面)
If you prefer eating a plate of Noodles that comes with a bit of chewy touch,
this is for you. On top of the chewy taste of the Noodles,
the chef had also thrown in ingredients like Seafood and Vegetables
that blend with the Noodles pretty well and on top of the pointers
that was mentioned in the above, the Chilli blend in pretty well too. :D
(Too bad the stall doesn't provide unlimited flow of Chilli and Lime,
else I would be even more happier eating. :P)

So where is the stall located?

This would be the store that I had recommended in this post.
The name of the store would be 'Hong Heng Fried Sotong Prawn Mee'.
It's located at one of the corners on the 2nd floor of Tiong Bahru Market.
Alternatively, take the escalator up to the 2nd floor of Tiong Bahru Market
and turn to your left. The stall would be on your left. :D

Authentic way of preparing a bowl of porridge

In the older days, most of the famous porridge stalls tend to cook or prepare good delicious porridge using good charcoal. But with the use of charcoals and traditional stoves, fire tend to breakout easily. Since electrical and gas stove had been introduced to stall owners, lesser and lesser stalls have continued with the traditional way of cooking and preparing good delicious food using charcoals anymore. Today, I'm going to introduce to you to an eating place that continues to prepare good delicious porridge using charcoal like the older days.

As usual, photos first. :)

Mixed Pork Porridge (One of my favourite type of porridge)
Ingredients included are Pig Intestines, Liver, Sliced Meat, Minced Meat
and you are given a choice to have it with or without an egg.
Usually, I will place an order for a bowl of Mixed Pork Porridge
with an egg. This is because...

I'm not sure how the the chef prepare the egg yolk but
it always turn out to be slightly a bit hard on the
outside yet remains to be watery in the inside.
Hence, I will always break the egg yolk and mixed it
into the porridge, which means it ultra yummy. :D

So what other porridge do they offer?
This would be the menu of the place.
Besides for Pork Porridge, they also serve
Century Egg Porridge, Fish Porridge and
side dishes like Raw Fish, Sliced Fish Soup, etc. :)

So what place is this?
The name of the place would be 'Ah Chang Porridge'(阿昌粥).
It's located near Tiong Bahru Market. They are open for
business from 11am in the morning till 9pm at night.
And the late breakfast and lunch crowd was unbelievably crazy.
