Maybe the owner's surname is Lim?

The weather is a bit too hot for you to handle? How about a dessert or two to beat the heat?

'Beancurd'
Though they are selling the sweet and smooth beancurd over here, but that isn't the
most interesting point about the dessert over here.

'Grass Jelly with Gingko Nuts'
Dessert wise, they are only selling a few different types. But on top of the basic
deliverable, you can top up several other types of ingredients to it. There's stuff
like 'gingko nuts', 'ginger', 'attap seeds', etc... Though I loved the bitter taste
'Grass Jelly', but I don't mind adding a few other types of ingredients and add an
additional taste to it.

So where can you give the desserts over here a good try?
The name of this stall would be "Uncle Lim's Beverages".
This is located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.

Queueing for Michael....

Nope I don't think that I will queue up for the tickets to a concert, but I am willing to spend a bit of time and queue up for food. :D

'Michael Jackson'
This is also known as a 'Michael Jackson', which is a mixture of 'Soya Bean
Drink' and 'Grass Jelly Drink'. As for the drink itself, it isn't too sweet
and there's lots of 'Grass Jelly Strips' inside the cup of 'Michael'. On top
of that, though it comes with a moderate portion of ice, but it tastes pretty
good too. There's a nice mix of both bitter and sweet taste, which is a (+)

So where can you give this drink a good try?
The name of this stall would be
'He Le, Soya Bean Drink Grass Jelly Drink'(和樂豆花水仙草水).
It's located inside 'West Coast Market Square', which is
located opposite, 'West Coast Plaza'.

Sitting next to a Tuk Tuk Cha...?

And nope, you don't need to go all the way to Thailand to have a meal next to a 'Tuk Tuk Cha'(Thailand's iconic transport vehicle). The same move is possible in Singapore too. :D

Left: Thai Milk Tea
Right: Homemade Lemongrass
Extreme opposites. For the Thai Milk Tea, the overpowering sweet taste simply makes it
irresistible. One could easily wipe out the whole cup in 1 sip. On the other end, the
Homemade is the kind of drink that could bring one out of a sleepy mode in 1 single sip.
The overpowering refreshing taste simply makes it a bit too crazy...

'Tom Yam Toast with Chicken Floss and Egg'
Hidden inside the toasted bread are a nice mixture of Tom Yam spread, topped with
'Chicken Floss' and 'Egg'. Though I'm not getting the fiery 'Tom Yum' sensation but
I'm getting a simplified 'Tom Yum' taste and a good mix of sweet ingredients. Not
too bad for a starter. :D

'Golden Toast'
The 'Golden Toast'. Though these are golden in color but they are not hard and
crunchy. In fact, they are crispy on the outer layer and fluffy inside. But that's
not the most indulging part. Once you dip the 'Golden Toast' into the different
types of dips, the real fun has just begin... Though they are offering different
types of dips over here but, I have ended up choosing the 'Homemade Pandan Kaya'
and 'Homemade Taro Kaya' a try. Both of them have this thick creamy texture and
I was scooping quite a big portion of it into my mouth. I personally find the
taste of the dips to be pretty thick and strong. Through these dips, I'm actually
getting the nice taste of 'Pandan' and 'Taro'. Not too bad for a snack.

So where can you give the snacks and drinks a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Tuk Tuk Cha'.
It's located inside 'Suntec City Tower 3'.
(See, there's a 'Tuk Tuk Cha' over here, though it's pretty much stagnant, but it
still have the looks of the 'Tuk Tuk Cha'. :P)

Black Or White....?

And eventually this is a blog about food, not some music promoting blog. And the title has something to do with the food that we are going to write about in this post.

'Beancurd with Red Beans'
The red beans over here are pretty big as compared to any other stalls out
there. However, I personally don't find the red beans crunchy enough it's
slightly a bit soft to my liking. Hidden below the pool of red beans would
be the smooth and warm beancurd. And when you mix them together, one would
be getting this ultimate sweetness which makes this a very big (+).

'Soya Bean Milk with Glass Jelly'
Rather than being a 'Black' or 'White', I'm actually getting a 'Black' &
'White' over here. With the correct mixture of ingredients, I'm actually
getting this sweet and bitter taste from this refreshing drink. Not too
bad for an affordable drink for a pretty warm day. :D

So where can you give these desserts a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Whampoa Soya Bean'(黃埔豆花).
This stall is located inside 'Clementi Market and Food Centre'.

Carls Junior Origins?

What can an individual do when he managed to wake up pretty early in the morning in an unfamiliar environment? The answer will be...

to check out the different options for breakfast... :D And this happens
to be one of them...

'The Redhook® Beer Battered Cod Fish Sandwich Meal'
Though it's merely the morning, but you can also get the usual sinful
burgers and fries. Being a big fan of Carl's Junior, I decided to give
the burgers over here a good try. :P As compared to the meals that one
can get in Singapore, the portions over here are ridiculously too big
to be true. Just the cup alone is pretty amazing already. It's crazily
big and on top of that, the selection of beverages over here are pretty
stunning too. Just by giving all the drinks a try can easily satisfy
one's hunger... =.=""" The generous portion of fries are pretty good
too. I shouldn't have ordered such a big portion for breakfast... @.@

This burger is made up of ingredients like 'Beer Battered Cod Fish',
sliced 'Lettuce', sliced 'Tomatoes', 'Tartar sauce', wrapped inside
a sesame bun. Even though the burger doesn't appears to be as big
as those that are appearing in the commercials, but the taste of the
burger is pretty decent. Not as bitter as they portrayed it to be,
but the sweet taste of the fish topped with the 'Tartar sauce' are
pretty reasonable. This makes me wonder how thick the 'Beef burgers'
will ended up to be. (Even though I'm not a beef eater... :P But it
will be fun to share the photos of it around... :D)

'Cinnamon Pull Aparts'
The whole idea of this side dish is pretty much similar to a muffin.
But it's loaded with a nice fragrance of Cinnamon and one can use a
fork to pull them apart. On top of that, the sweet taste is a (+). :D

Basically this is still "Carl's Junior", but it's the food that one
could get from the outlets in US.
The above shows the outlet located at Irvine, CA, United States.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
Varies at the different outlet across US. Some of the outlets are opened 24/7 too.

Mixing your own drinks and dessert at a affordable price...

I love eating. If eating can be registered as a hobby, I would gladly do so. And if you are a smart eater, you can easily find great places that can not only satisfied your appetite, your taste bud and at the same time it's wallet friendly too. :D

'Spicy Chicken Set'
Ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... they are offering different
types of set meals over here. Since this is the first time, I'm coming here
I decided to go with this set meal.

'Kimchi'
The side dish that comes with this meal would be a bowl of 'Kimchi'. Nicely
marinated, the bowl of 'Kimchi' isn't too spicy and at the same time pretty
tasty. Too bad the portion is kinda small, but as a side dish, it has
definitely served it's purpose and bring up my appetite too.

'Spicy Chicken'
Surrounded with a nice pool of spicy sauce and at the same time covered with
ingredients like Sesame and Spring Onions, the succulent and tasty plate of
chicken is a pretty good deal. With this plate of chicken, one can easily
wipe out 2 or more bowls of rice. (It's just kinda sad that they ain't
offering free flow of rice over here.) However...

'Coffee float'
Though they don't have free flow of rice over here, but they do have free
flow of beverages and ice cream over here. For a start, I was trying out
one of the special menu for coffee floats over here. How should I put it,
though I'm getting both a sweet and a bitter taste, but this just simply
couldn't catch my attention. Though I would really want to give tea float
a try... but definitely not after a unique coffee float.

The set meal over here not only comes with free flow of hot/cold beverages.
It also comes with free flow ice cream too. Besides offering several big
tubs of ice cream of different flavors, they also have a machine that gives
you the normal soft serve ice cream too. Since there isn't a time
restriction, therefore you can really sit here the whole enjoying the free
flow of beverages and ice cream and chill the whole afternoon away. :D

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Just Acia'
It has a few outlets island wide and the above shows the outlet located inside
'Dhoby Ghaut Xchange', which is located inside 'Dhoby Ghaut MRT'.

In search of the Indian Style Fish Head Curry...

I always thought that it was the Chinese that invented the 'Fish Head Curry', but after reading through numerous articles online, it have proven that I'm wrong. The genius behind the 'Fish Head Curry' idea seems to be an Indian. Therefore, I started doing a search for 'Indian Fish Head Curry' and ...

The both of us ended up having our dinner at this Indian restaurant.

'Vegetarian Biryani'
If I'm not mistaken they are offering a slightly smaller 'Vegetarian
Biryani' set over here. I'm not sure how does the normal 'Vegetarian
Biryani' set over here looks like, but since they are charging us
half the original price of the normal 'Vegetarian Biryani', therefore
the normal 'Vegetarian Biryani' set should be getting a few more
vegetarian side dishes.

As for the set that we are getting that night, it comes with free flow
of side dishes, 'Papadum' and 'Biryani Rice'. Well, I guess the side dishes
over here are subjected to change. For side dishes the other night, we are
getting the crunchy cabbages and nicely marinated potatoes. And the crispy
and not too oily 'Papadum' is a big (+). Even though the 'Biryani Rice'
doesn't comes with a super nice fragrance, but it's acceptable. And the
generous portion of good 'Biryani Rice' and side dishes has already made
my 'Day' or should I say 'Night'. But hey, this isn't the main objective of
this trip. Our main objective of this trip would be the...

'Fish Head Curry'(Large)
This is really a very big pot of 'Fish Head Curry', especially when we are
sharing it among the both of us. Base on my calculations, this is big enough
to be shared among a group of 4. (That is on top of the 'Vegetarian Biryani'
set that you are going to order and have it with the 'Fish Head Curry'.)

Taste wise, the thick gravy is a big (+). It's so delicious and good that I
could easily finish a few plates of 'Biryani Rice', just by covering it with
the gravy. Though it's known as 'Fish Head Curry', it doesn't mean that you
will only be getting a 'Fish Head' in this pot of 'Curry'. It also comes with
vegetables like 'Lady Fingers', 'Brinjal' and not just one but both sides of
the 'Fish Head'. By the way, I don't think that the 'Fish Head Curry' is
fiery enough for me but my friend doesn't seems to agree with me. Fine, I do
agree that I have a much much higher tolerance level of spicy food. Anyway
from the taste of the 'Curry', I think that the chef over here has really
put lots of effort in preparing the dish. For a start, the texture of the
'Fish' and 'vegetables' are not too soft and soggy. On top of the almost
perfect texture, they have managed to mix all the heavenly taste of the 'Fish
Head Curry' into the ingredients nicely too, which is a very very big (+). :D

By the way, they also have this dish known as 'Fish Head Deluxe (XL)'. I tried
placing an order for it, but they don't have it that particular night. If I
really have the time, I would really want to give that a try, since the 'Fish
Head Curry' is already a big and good surprise to me.

'Mutton MySore'
As compared to the delicious 'Fish Head Curry', this might ended up to be a
disappointment. Although the texture of the 'Mutton' isn't too dry but the
odor of the 'Mutton' still remains to be pretty strong. I was hoping that
the spices that they are using could cover the odor of the 'Mutton' but
it's just too bad.

'Masala Tea'
The idea behind this beverage is pretty much similar to the 'Ginger Tea'.
They are adding spices throughout the process of brewing this tea. Therefore,
you will be getting this nice spicy and sweet sensation from the beverage
itself. Not forgetting the nice aroma of the 'Masala Tea' too. :P

So where can you give all these delicious 'Indian Food' a good try?
The name of this restaurant would be "Karu's Indian Banana Leaf Restaurant".
It's located along 'Upper Bukit Timah Road'.

Not only have Sugarcane Drink

Whenever one talks about the beverages at 'Chomp Chomp Food Centre', most of the people will think of the humongous mug of 'Sugarcane Juice' over there. However, I just discovered something as big and as good as the 'Sugarcane Juice' over there and that would be...

'Green Bandung'
You have tried 'Bandung'(Rose Tea + Milk) before but have you tried a 'Green Bandung'
before? Go ahead, give it a try, try guessing the main ingredient of this beverage.
The ingredient that is causing the 'Greenish' colour would be... 'Wheatgrass'(小麦草).
There used to be this period of time where I have been consistently drinking
a bottle of 'Wheatgrass' on a daily basis. I have never thought of the idea of mixing
it with milk and whoever that comes up with this idea is a genius. On top of being
sweet, this drink have also managed to preserve the original taste of the 'Wheatgrass'.
However, it's kinda hard for me to describe the taste of it. To some, it might appear
to be kinda starchy and gross but to me, I find it delicious and yummy. Do give this a
try if you are popping by that area.

'Super Cooler'
This is another unique innovation of this stall. It's basically a mixture of
'Wheatgrass' and 'Coconut'. Rather than adding 'Coconut' syrup, they are adding
'Coconut' flesh into this drink. Although the overall taste is more of the 'Wheatgrass'
than the 'Coconut', but this still ended up to be pretty refreshing for 'Wheatgrass'
lovers like me. Although there's merely a few strands of 'Coconut' flesh that works
like a strand of 'Instant Noodles', but that's just a (+). However, if you want me to
choose between the 'Green Bandung' or this, would likely I would go for the 'Green
Bandung'. And if you are a 'Wheatgrass' lover, you should really give the beverages
over here a good try.

So where can you give the 'Green Bandung' or the 'Super Cooler' a try?
THe name of this stall would be 'Ding Hao Sugarcane Juice'(鼎好甘蔗汁).

A drink that is Sweet and Spicy... :D

A nice beverage will be needed when you are having a good meal. Not only it could help you to digest your food better, it could quench your thirst too. And it's not a must that the beverages have to be pretty boring, it can ended up to be something interesting too. For example...

'Teh Halia'
This is pretty much similar to the normal 'Teh' or 'Tea with Milk' that one can get
in almost all the 'Coffee Shop' in Singapore. However, a special ingredient have
been added into this beverage to boost the taste of it even much more further. And
the special ingredient would be 'Ginger'.

By adding a few slices of 'Ginger' into the kettle of 'Tea' and boiling them together,
the spicy taste of the 'Ginger' will blend into the 'Tea' nicely. And if you have
topped it with a nice portion of milk, the end product will become sweet and spicy.
Therefore, this not only makes it a good alternative for cold and rainy days, it also
can help you to get rid of throat and nose congestion. Isn't that nice? :D

Let's take a look at the drinks menu of this stall.
(So many options and where should I start?)

So where can you give the nice 'Teh Halia' a good try?

Beyond the neighbourhood drinks stall...

After a heavy meal in a coffee shop located nearby, I was looking for the drinks stall in the same coffee shop. I realised that this was the only drink stall located in this coffee shop, therefore I decided to give it a try.

'Coconut Milk Tea'
I ended up placing an order for this 'Coconut Milk Tea'. The taste and the texture of this
drink is pretty much similar to all the 'Taiwanese Bubble Tea' that you can get in most of
the shopping malls. What I find it fun would be the long Coconut Jelly Cubes that they have
added into the 'Milk Tea'. I personally find it much more chewy than the pearls that was
added into a regular 'Bubble Tea'.

'Menu'
Here's the menu of the drinks stall located inside the coffee shop. Hmmm... they really
have a wide selection of drinks. There's 'Coffee', 'Fruit Juice', 'Milk Tea', 'Smoothie',
'Fruit Tea', 'Yakult Booster(Har??)', etc... Basically, there's a drink for everyone,
regardless of your age and your gender(?). According to their Facebook page, it seems
that over here, you get to choose the type of 'Sugar' that you would like to add into
your 'Coffee' too. There's like 'Crystal Sugar', 'Cube Sugar', 'White Sugar', 'Row Sugar'
and 'Brown Sugar'. (If you ask me... I really don't care... :P)

The name of this stall would be 'Brown Sugar' by ESKIMO.
It's located in one of the coffee shop along 'Bukit Merah Lane'.

A Company of Beer

Frankly speaking, I'm not so much into alcoholic drinks like beer, wine, etc... However, once in a while, I would still drink a bit, especially when I'm travelling and the weather is freezing cold. By drinking a bit, it really helps to keep you warm and out-stand the crazily cold weather co-temporarily.

'Taiwan Lychee Beer'(臺灣荔枝啤酒)
Ever since I know about the existence of this beer in Singapore last year
(or is it 2 years ago?), I have been keeping a lookout for it. And I managed to
find it recently. As you drink the beer, rather than getting the bitter taste,
you are getting the sweet taste of 'Lychee'. However the taste will slowly turn
from sweet to bitter as you gulp down the beer, which isn't that important. Most
importantly, it is something special and nice that even non-beer lovers like me
could easily gulp down 3/4 of the bottle of beer without any difficulties. :)

So where can you give the 'Taiwan Lychee Beer' a good try?
Who says that you can only get a wide variety of beers in a brewery
or restaurant? Basically, the name of this stall is 'The Good Beer Company' and
it is located in one of the hidden corners on level 2 of 'Chinatown Complex Food Centre'.

Creativity starts from a waffle...

I have come across this interesting 'mini cafe' when we were on our way to one of the best cinema in Singapore a few weeks back. Based on my personal experiences, I still find 'The Cathay' to be one of the best cinemas in Singapore. Anyway, since I was passing by the cinema the other day, I decided to give the food over here a try. Therefore...

Waffle set - 'Sinfully Chocolate'
For a waffle set, you get to select either a
'Savory' waffle or a 'Sweet' waffle and a beverage.

So what's a 'Savory' waffle?
Basically it's a normal waffle that comes
with meaty ingredients such as hotdog, Ham, etc...

And what's a 'Sweet' waffle?
It's a normal waffle that comes with fruits.
It can be either banana, strawberry, blueberry, etc...

Basically, I ended up choosing a 'Sweet' waffle known as 'Sinfully Chocolate'.
They chef has sliced up the waffle into 4 pieces and 3 of them are covered with
chocolate flakes, which is 'Koko Krunch', pieces of chocolate and also chocolate
sauce. The texture of the waffle is pretty nice, which is crispy on the outside
and moist on the inside. I started slicing up the waffle into smaller pieces
and threw it into my mouth. I love the crunchy sensation of the chocolate flakes
and I personally find the chocolate taste slightly a bit too strong for me. For
chocolate lovers, you should really give this waffle a try. The strawberry yogurt
ice cream, which is place on top on the last piece of waffle is pretty good too.
Since it's a type of yogurt ice cream, the texture is usually much more softer and
it's pretty much similar to small pieces of fine ice. I was simply slicing up the
last piece of waffle and have it with a bit of ice cream and a bit of chocolate
sauce. The sweet sensation was pretty nice and this is an indulging way of killing
off all the crazy heat.

'Peach Roselle Tea Sangria'
I have selected this beverage to quench my thirst. Basically the texture of
this beverage is pretty much similar to a ice blended fruit juice. However
the texture of the one over here is much more thicker and the taste of the
fruits are much more stronger, which is a nice alternative on a crazy hot day.

So where can you give all these waffles a try?
The name of this cafe would be 'Createaf Waffles'.
It's located on level 1 of 'The Cathay'.

Beating the heat, the Cambridge way?

Since Singapore doesn't have the 4 seasons, therefore what we are experiencing in Singapore most of the time is either Sunny or Rainy days. And when it started to become more and more sunny, the same weather can lost for more than 2 weeks. So, what would be a good drink to help you to beat the heat?

'Pineapple Juice'
When it comes to eating and drinking, I have set of rules that I have
been following the past few years. For example: I would try not to order
a drink when I'm dining outside. If there's really a need, I would go for
drinks that doesn't comes with a can. Therefore, the first thing that
caught my attention would be the big container that contains the 'Pineapple
juice'. When it comes to drinks stalls, they will usually sell the stuff
that they need to prepare on the fly (Ex: coffee, tea, etc...) or they will
sell drinks that involves minimum cost/manpower (Ex: grass jelly, soya bean,
etc...). Not all the stalls out there are willing to invest time and money
in preparing the 'Pineapple Juice'.

The 'Pineapple Juice' here is pretty concentrated and the few pieces of
pineapple that was included in the drink are pretty nice too. Oh by the way,
looking at the colour of the drink, the stall owners might have soak the slices
of pineapple inside the container for a very long period of time, therefore when
I took it out from the mug, the colour of the pineapple looks kinda orangish.
And I wonder if I wait for another hour or so, will the taste of the drink
and the fruit becomes much more thicker? Hmmm, I wonder.

So where can you give the 'Pineapple Juice' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Cambridge Fresh Fruit Juice'(剑桥鲜果汁).
It's located inside 'Albert Centre Market And Food Centre',
which is located near 'Bugis Village'.

Smells good but ...

I don't really know how to appreciate a good cup of coffee. To some, coffee would be the option to keep them awake but as for myself, it's the other way round. Coffee makes me sleepy. :P Anyway...

A cup of 'Kopi'(Coffee in Malay)
I have to admit that this cup of coffee smells pretty good. It have
given me the nostalgic moments. It reminds me of the good old days
where packets of coffee were served in small metal tin cans. The
taste, the good old memories would be something that one could never
forget. As and when you started drinking, the taste of it isn't as
bad as I thought. Probably because I have gone for the normal coffee
that comes with milk, therefore it's not too bitter. (In fact, if
I'm not mistaken, they have added 2 different types of milk into the
small little cup of coffee. Probably that's their secret to the nice
fragrance and the good taste?)

'Kaya Bread'
Though the way they have prepare it were pretty much the same as
the other places out there, but they are not adding thin slices
of butter into the 'Kaya Bread'. Though the idea of adding a thin
slice of butter into the 'Kaya Bread' is pretty convenient, but if
you don't have a big mouth as I do, you will realise that the butter
isn't evenly spread. This would be a reason that the older 'Kaya Bread'
are much better. Though the making and preparing process might be
longer, but the butter and 'Kaya' were evenly spread. :D

So why can you try this?

The name of this place would be 'Nanyang Old Coffee'(南洋老咖啡).
They have a few outlets island-wide. What I have shown here
would be the branch located in 'Chinatown MRT'.

Notes:
  • I'm not sure about all the outlets, but the outlets located around 'Chinatown' area closes at around 6pm. They sure do close pretty early. But come to think of it, 'Kaya Bread' and 'Coffee' are much more suitable to be taken for 'Breakfast' or 'Lunch' and not 'Dinner'. :D
