Atas Ice Cream in Chinatown...

I was walking along the back alley of Chinatown or more specifically, 'South Bridge Road'. And I happen to came upon this ice cream shop. (Little do I know that it's Swiss Ice Cream.)

'2 Scoops of Ice Creams'
Top - 'Crème Brûlée'
A bit too sweet for me. This is simply sweetness overdose.

Bottom - 'Pistachio'
Being a nutty man, this is a (+). I loved the bitter and nutty sensation.

Despite of the number of customers that they are getting each and every day,
the overall texture of the ice cream isn't too solid, in fact it's pretty
creamy and smooth. As I scoop the ice cream and pop it in my mouth, it can
really melt in my mouth without any disturbments. :D

So where can you give the ice cream a good try?
The name of this shop would be 'Mövenpick'.
They have a few hidden outlets spread across the island.
The above shows the outlet located in the corner of 'Southbridge Hotel'.

Next to a Mosque and not a Temple...

Suddenly have the urge to 'Biryani Rice' and No, I'm not referring to the normal 'Biryani Rice'. I wanted to eat the 'Dum Biryani Rice', therefore...

Oh by the way, this restaurant isn't located in 'Little India'. It's
located near 'Chinatown MRT'. As I reached the place pretty late, I
think that I ended up to be the last dining in customer of that day.
Anyway after I have placed my orders, I saw the helpers over here opening
this humongous cooking pot and scoop out all the food. I was taking a
sneak peek inside and it seems that the pot contains both the 'Biryani
Rice' and lots of 'Chicken' inside, which makes me wonder how much
time is needed for them to prepare such a humongous pot of 'Dum Biryani'.

'Chicken Dum Biryani'
For a start, this 'Dum Biryani Set' comes with a big piece of 'Chicken',
a colourful plate of 'Biryani Rice' and a small portion of vegetables.
Even though the 'Biryani Rice' looks goldish brown in colour, but if you
take a closer look, the colour isn't equally distributed. But, most bites
still comes with both the nice fragrance and taste of the spices and
'Chicken'. And if you pour a bit of 'Curry Gravy' over the 'Biryani Rice'
and mixed it together, it actually amplified the taste into something much
more filling and tasty. As for the 'Chicken' itself, probably they have
cooked it for too long, therefore, I personally find it a bit too dry and
a bit too bland. Probably most of the taste has been sucked by the 'Biryani
Rice', therefore...

'Papadum'
The 'Papadum' doesn't comes with the 'Dum Chicken Biryani' set, therefore
you have to pay for it separately. However, a packet of 'Papadum' comes
with a few pieces and each individual piece isn't too oily and it's pretty
crispy too. :D

The name of this restaurant would be 'Taj Authentic Indian Cuisine'.
It's located along 'South Bridge Road'.
By the way, rather than located next to the 'Indian Temple'
along 'South Bridge Road', it's located next to the 'Mosque' instead.

LTK Ipoh Hor Fun

I was reading the newspaper the other day and this particular place was celebrating it's 65th anniversary. Since I have always wanted to give this place a try, therefore I think that this is the perfect opportunity for me to give it a try.

'Lee Tong Kee KL Style'
(Chicken & Prawns with Cai Xin and Bean Sprouts in special sauce)
李东记吉隆坡式河粉(鸡丝虾肉, 菜心)
Since I have never been to 'Ipoh', therefore it's pretty hard for me to tell you
or how bad this is as compared to the authentic 'Ipoh Hor Fun'. However, I think
that though the taste of the sauce is pretty sweet and tasty, but the portion that
was given was unbelievably small. I think that I should have ordered the 'Soup'
version of this dish as it looks much more bigger in size as compared to the 'Dry'
version of this dish. Though I have to agreed that this dish looks pretty healthy
with all the vegetables lying inside the bowl, but I think that it's slightly a
bit too costly. (Luckily, I was paying for it at a discount of 65%, so it's not
that bad. However, if I'm going to pay the full price... :|)

Avocado Delight
焦糖鳄梨
Though I love the taste of 'Avocado', but this dish is a bit too sweet. And
it's pretty much similar to a bowl of yam paste. It's pretty sticky and at
the same time watery. If we like crazily sweet dessert, this is a must try. (:P)

So where can you give the dessert a try?
The name of this place would be 'Lee Tong Kee Hor Fun'(李東記和粉).
It's located along 'South Bridge Road', pretty near 'Chinatown MRT',
'Buddha Tooth Relic Temple' and 'Maxwell Market'.

Smells good but ...

I don't really know how to appreciate a good cup of coffee. To some, coffee would be the option to keep them awake but as for myself, it's the other way round. Coffee makes me sleepy. :P Anyway...

A cup of 'Kopi'(Coffee in Malay)
I have to admit that this cup of coffee smells pretty good. It have
given me the nostalgic moments. It reminds me of the good old days
where packets of coffee were served in small metal tin cans. The
taste, the good old memories would be something that one could never
forget. As and when you started drinking, the taste of it isn't as
bad as I thought. Probably because I have gone for the normal coffee
that comes with milk, therefore it's not too bitter. (In fact, if
I'm not mistaken, they have added 2 different types of milk into the
small little cup of coffee. Probably that's their secret to the nice
fragrance and the good taste?)

'Kaya Bread'
Though the way they have prepare it were pretty much the same as
the other places out there, but they are not adding thin slices
of butter into the 'Kaya Bread'. Though the idea of adding a thin
slice of butter into the 'Kaya Bread' is pretty convenient, but if
you don't have a big mouth as I do, you will realise that the butter
isn't evenly spread. This would be a reason that the older 'Kaya Bread'
are much better. Though the making and preparing process might be
longer, but the butter and 'Kaya' were evenly spread. :D

So why can you try this?

The name of this place would be 'Nanyang Old Coffee'(南洋老咖啡).
They have a few outlets island-wide. What I have shown here
would be the branch located in 'Chinatown MRT'.

Notes:
  • I'm not sure about all the outlets, but the outlets located around 'Chinatown' area closes at around 6pm. They sure do close pretty early. But come to think of it, 'Kaya Bread' and 'Coffee' are much more suitable to be taken for 'Breakfast' or 'Lunch' and not 'Dinner'. :D

Breakfast @ Night

Have you ever dreamed of having 'America Breakfast' for Breakfast? What if the idea of having 'America Breakfast' for Lunch or Dinner isn't a dream too. Wouldn't that make your life much more happier? (:D) Introducing...

"Loft's Breakfast"
This is a luxurious breakfast. It reminds me of the good old days when I
travelled overseas. The breakfast set comes with 'Scrambled Eggs', 'Bacon'
'Sausage', 'Ham', 'Mushrooms', 'Tomato', 'Yogurt' and 'Pancakes'.
Probably the shop owner has the same passion as I do, he probably miss
the 'American Breakfast' pretty much as I do, therefore and he has
decided to offer the set meal throughout the day.

Anyway taste wise, besides for the 'Yogurt', which tastes too 'sour'
the rest of it are pretty delicious. For instance, the 'Scrambled Egg'
isn't too watery and too soft. You can cut it into multiple pieces and
use a fork to scoop up the egg easily. :) As for the meaty stuff, it's
pretty well done and beautiful. :D Just for the above, I think this
'America Breakfast' deserves a lot of '+'. But that's not all...

In the past, when I have a lust for 'Pancakes', the first option will
ended up to be a fast-food restaurant. However since it's a fast-food
restaurant, the 'Pancakes' will always ended up to be pretty soft and
thin, which is kinda... ==""" Though the taste is acceptable but it
ain't satisfying enough. As you can see, though the 'Pancakes' over here
aren't too big nor too small, but they are definitely much more thicker.
And it's much more solid than the 'Pancakes' that you are getting at a
fast-food restaurant. Though the 'Pancakes' are covered with sprinkles
of Sugar, but it will taste much more heavenly when you have covered it
with the syrup that comes with it. :D Simply Irresistibly Yummy~~~

So where can you have the luxury of having 'Breakfast' at night?
The name of this restaurant would be 'The Loft Cafe'.
It's located along 'South Bridge Road' and it's within 10 - 15 minutes
walking distance from 'Chinatown MRT'.

Post 200: 8 Treasures

Post 200... Woohoo it has been a pretty long journey to reach this far? Since, this is post 200, out of all the other contents that I have on hand, I decided to blog about this place since 2 '0' will make up the shape of '8'. Or perherps this is far too much to be a coincidences? :P Either ways, let's begin our journey for post 200...

So here comes our soup of the day.
'Hot & Sour Soup'(四川酸辣汤)
Not sure is it me, but it seems that most of the Chinese style
'Hot & Sour Soup' tends to come with lots and lots of ingredients.
Probably this is something that we, Chinese tend to do. :P
The taste of the soup is pretty strong and seriously I didn't
expected it to be so good. The soup also have the taste of
the 'Szechuan vegetables'(四川菜), since they are using it as
one of the main ingredient in making the soup. By the way
a small bowl of soup can be shared by a group of 8.
(Since we were a group of 4, therefore each of us had 2 bowls
of the tasty soup. :D Good job.)

'Curry Mutton'(咖哩羊肉)
Usually when I ended up in a Chinese restaurant, I tend to
order a dish that comes with a bit of gravy. Since curry
is one of the most common food in Singapore, I decided to
go with this dish. All the mutton meat that were given are
bite sized. And the look and the shape of it reminds me of
the dish 'Ngo Hiang', sausage roll consist of minced pork
and prawn seasoned with five-spice powder. The taste is
pretty much similar and since I'm a big fan of curry, I
also ended up finishing all the vegetables of this dish
too. (By the way, the curry that was served here isn't
spicy at all and the gravy is pretty thick.)

'Sambal Potatoes Leaves'(叁巴番薯叶)
Probably I'm too used to have this dish prepared in very
exciting chilli, therefore for this dish, something seems
to be amiss. Though the taste of the vegetables still
remain in this dish, but it's just isn't spicy enough. :P

'Fragrant Cereal Beancurd'(麦片豆腐)
This is pretty good. Not sure how did the chef managed to
do it but although the main ingredients of this dish is
beancurd, but the texture of the beancurd is pretty much
similar to a fish cake or fried sotong ball. I'm not
exaggerating but the it's pretty chewy and this dish isn't
too oily. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone
who comes here for a meal or two.

'Marmite Pork Ribs'(妈密排骨)
Most of the places out there are preparing 'Coffee Pork Ribs'
and it's kinda of boring going for the same old dish over and
over again. My friend had placed an order for this dish and it
turn out to be pretty tasty. Pretty much similar to 'Coffee
Pork Ribs', you can taste the strong taste of the 'Pork Ribs',
but at the same time, it doesn't comes with the 'Coffee' effect.
(Keeping you too awake. :|) But I personally still find the
beancurd much more tastier than this dish.

So where can you try all these dishes?

The name of the restaurant would be '8 Treasures'(八宝) and it's
located next to the 'Buddha Tooth Relic Temple' in Chinatown.

... Oh, by the way... Did I forget to mention the fact that this is a vegetarian restaurant? The actual name of this restaurant will be '8 Treasures Vegetarian Restaurant'. Since the name of the restaurant contains the word '8 Treasures', some of their dishes also comes with the word '8 Treasures' too. For example: 'Treasures Beancurd'(八宝豆腐), 'Eight Treasures Hor Fun '(八宝河粉), 'Eight Treasures Herbal Soup'(八宝养生汤)... etc. We have tried the 'Eight Treasures Tea'(八宝茶), and the taste is pretty strong and a little sweet. Even up till the 3rd brew, the taste of the Tea still remains to the pretty much the same as the 1st brew.

Notes:
  • The place is pretty small and crowded, therefore please secure a reservation to avoid disappointment.

Like a Moon?

Let us take a look at the following picture first. Make a guess, what do you think the following image is showing?

Is this a mango cake? No.
Is this a Jelly? No..
Is this a dessert? No...
This is in fact an...

Egg Tart.
As compared with all the common Egg Tarts that you can get from a
pastry shop, this Egg Tart comes in a diamond shape. On top of the
shape, the texture of the egg, which was in the centre of the egg
tart was a combination between both soft and hard. Usually a egg
tart will have a slightly harder texture in the middle, but this
egg tart have a soft texture that was similar to a Portuguese Egg
Tart. Even though the texture was much softer than regular egg tart,
that doesn't mean that the ingredients in the middle will spill out
easily. Not sure how they chef manage to do that but that was amazingly
interesting. Here comes the best part, the amount of egg filling that
was given in the Egg Tart was both generous and delicious.

Besides for the Egg Tart, another speciality of the place would be the Coconut Tart. Besides for the Tarts, another speciality of this place would be the Traditional Chinese Pastry.

So where is it located?

The name of this place would be 'Tong Heng Confectionery'(東興). The main branch is located along South Bridge Road which was also a 5 minutes walk away from Maxwell Food Centre. They also have a branch in Jurong Point Shopping Centre if I'm not mistaken.

This would be one of the decorations of the place. Pretty interesting right?
Finding the Gods of Blessings, Prosperity and Longevity
or more commonly known as 福禄寿 at a place like this.
