Not just Pasta and Sausages...

This would be my first visit to the new shopping mall 'Jem'. Rather than walking around the shopping mall aimlessly, I was actually invited to a food tasting event at a 'European Restaurant'. And the following are the list of items that we have tasted that day. :D

'Roasted Pork Knuckle (Half)' served with
Sauerkraut, Light Brown Sauce and Mashed Potato
'Pork Knuckle', a difficult delicacy to savour. So why is it a difficult delicacy?
While trying out the 'Pork Knuckle' that different types of restaurants are offering,
I find the part of cutting the extremely crispy skin to be the most annoying. Some
of the 'Pork Knuckle' out there in the market are as hard as a rock and the dining
experience could easily turn into an unpleasant one. As for the 'Pork Knuckle' over
here, they have nicely sliced it up into small slices, which makes it much more easier
to be shared among a group of friends. Although I find parts of the skin to be a bit
too tough, but the meat is pretty tender and it goes well with all the side dishes.

'CurryWurst'
Though it's known as 'CurryWurst', it's actually 'Bratwurst'(a type of German Sausage)
topped with 'Curry Powder', 'Ketchup' and 'Onions'. The 'CurryWurst' were crispy on the
outside and it's juicy, bouncy and tender on the inside. On top of that, the nice mixture
between the taste of the 'Curry Powder' and the 'Sausage' is heavenly and it's worth a
big (+). Fries wise, isn't something special, but you can dipped it in the sauce to
enhance the taste of the fries even further.

'Chicken Corden Bleu'
The breaded chicken breast meat are stuffed with smoked ham and cheese and it's added
to a pool of mushroom cream sauce and 'Spatzle' + 'Purple Cabbage'. Probably the first
2 items are far more tasty and meaty than this dish, therefore I find the taste of this
dish to be pretty ordinary. And it's the pool of delicious 'Mushroom Sauce' and the
chewy ingredients that have gained my attention.

'Honey Ginger Chai Latte'
Since this is suppose to be a mixture of 'Honey', 'Ginger' and 'Chai', I was hoping that
there would be a mixture of both spicy and sweet taste. However, the end product seems to
be neither here nor there and the taste seems to be pretty normal for a 'Chai Latte'.

'Ambush Paella'
This dish comes with lots of seafood ingredients. There's 'White Clams', 'Mussels',
'Queen Scallop', 'Prawns', 'Sliced Bacon' and 'Sausages'. The rice itself ended up
to be sticky but the taste of the ingredients have blend into the rice nicely.
However, the portion is kinda small for an individual.

'Baby Scallop & Flying Fish Roe - Squid Ink Sauce'
This is a plate of 'Black Coloured Pasta' topped with Japanese 'Hotate'(Scallop).
Though the overall texture of the 'Pasta' is slightly a bit oily, but the overall
taste is pretty interesting. In fact, there's a mix of butter and squid ink in
every single bite, which is amazingly interesting. :P

'Char Grilled Lamb Saddle Steak'
The chewy steak is pretty tender and it doesn't comes with the strong odour of
'Lamb'. However, probably I'm not so much into the 'Lamb', therefore I ended up
spending more time savouring the vegetables and 'Mashed Potatoes' more than
anything else.

'Crispy Chicken & Seaweed - Aglio Olio Ambush Style'
Although the texture of the pasta is slightly a bit oily, but the taste and the
crispy of the fried chicken is pretty good. When you have mix all the ingredients
together, the nice mix of crunchy and chewy ingredients is a good combination. :P

'Poulet Roti'
The specially marinated 'Chicken' not only tastes good, the succulent meat is a
(+) too. But after giving numerous meaty dishes a try, I ended up spending more
time digging into the vegetables, 'Mustard Mashed Potato' and the mushroom sauce. :P

'Schweinmedallion'
Pan grilled slices of 'Pork' surrounded with a pool of 'Mushroom Sauce' and side
dishes like 'Spatzle' and 'Purple Cabbage'. The texture of the meat is slightly
a bit more dry and firm than the 'Pork Knuckle' and you probably need to add a
bit of 'Mushroom Sauce' over it to enhance the taste of the meat further.

Now it's time for some desserts...

'Molten Chocolate Brownie'
A mix of both hot and cold ingredients. The hot chocolate brownie is topped with
a scoop of 'Vanilla' ice cream.

'Tiramisu'
This is a pretty innovative way to serve the 'Tiramisu'. You will be given a plate
of breadcrumb sticks and you actually have to dip and scoop out the dessert yourself.

'Apple Crisp'
Probably because I'm not a big fan of chocolate, therefore out of all the desserts
that I have tried over here, I find the taste of this to be the best. It's a slice
of apple pie topped with a scoop of 'Vanilla' ice cream and sweet 'Caramel' syrup.

'Chocolate Lava Souffle'
The last item that we tried that day would be this. Though it's a 'Lava' cake, but
there isn't a lot of 'Lava' flowing out of the cake when we slice it open.

So where can you give all these 'European Food' a try?
The name of this 'European Restaurant' would be 'Ambush'.

Too much for me...

Since most of the time I'm dining alone, therefore when I feel like eating something or when my stomach is controlling my body and mind, I will still go for it despite of the fact that I'm dining alone. However...

'Special Dinner Combo'
Frankly speaking, this ended up to be something too big for me to handle.
Even though I managed to finish up most of it within an hour or so, but
I ended up spending another 3 or 4 hours waiting for my stomach to digest
most of it, before I continue digging into the generous portion of 'Potato
Wedges' at home. (In fact, luckily I have requested for a tube of 'Brown Sauce'
when I takeaway the rest of it(the 'Potato Wedges'), otherwise I will have
problem finishing everything.) =.=""" Even though, I took a crazily long
time to finish up everything, but surprisingly, the 'Potato Wedges' didn't
ended up to be too soft. In fact, it still remains to be pretty delicious
when I dipped them inside the 'Brown Sauce'. On top of that, the 'Wedges'
aren't too oily at all(before and after the takeaway. :P) and I think that
the taste doesn't lose out to the much more common 'French Fries'. :D

By the way, the set meal not only comes with 'Potato Wedges' only. It also
comes with 'Whole Pork Knuckle', 'German Sausages', 'Whipped Potato', 'Achar',
'Sautéd Vegetables' and also 'Brown Sauce'. The 'German Sausage' are a big
disappointment. Although the texture are pretty bouncy, but the taste of it
is a big disappointment. The taste of it is much more closer to a regular
'Hot Dog' than a 'German Sausage'. :| As for the 'Achar' and 'Whipped Potato'
the taste of it are acceptable but definitely not something that's super
fantastic. As for the rest of the vegetables, I don't really care about it.
Especially when my main motive that particular day were mainly on the meaty
stuff itself. The vegetables are mainly there to help me to feel much more
better. (Especially, when I feasting on some many sinful stuff. :P By the way,
I still manage to finish up the whole plate of vegetables even though I'm
ultra full already.)

As for the 'Whole Pork Knuckle', the skin are far more crispier than the
ones that I have eaten over the past few years. On top of that, the meat
isn't too stiff and too dry. And setting the bones aside, I don't find
the process of slicing up the flesh of the 'Knuckle' to be too difficult,
which is another big (+). Anyway for slow eaters, you can add/pour some
'Brown Sauce' over the 'Knuckle' as and when the flesh are getting much
more harder and difficult to be sliced up. :P (Just take note of the amount
that you are pouring on it. Though the 'Brown Sauce' over here are pretty
good, but it can get real salty when you pour excessive amount over your
food. :D)

So where can you give this a try?

Sausage Fest...?

Hey, I do know that the title of this post looks and sounds so wrong but in order to make things much more interesting, I still think that this is the most appropriate title to describe this post. Anyway it has been a month since our first encounter with the 'Spanish Suckling Pig' and it was a pleasant experience. As for this month, we decided to try something special again and that would be...

'Brotzeit® Platter'
Basically this platter comes with 5 different types of Sausages, a humongous
'Pork Knuckle', few slices of 'Pork Schnitzel' and 2 different side dish, we
ended up selecting both the 'Napkin Dumpling' and the 'Mashed Potatoes'. Although
the menu has stated that this Platter was meant for a group of 4 or 5, but in
fact, 2 of us managed to finish the whole platter. However, as I step out of the
restaurant, I think that my stomach look like a solid D-shape.
So what bring us here?

'Pork Knuckle'
Well, basically this would be the main reason why we were dining at this
restaurant. Since some of us haven't tried a 'Pork Knuckle' before, we decided
to give it a try over there. Initially, I was using the fork and knife to cut a
few pieces of meat off the 'Pork Knuckle', but after spending half an hour cutting
slices of meat off the 'Pork Knuckle', I decided to use my bare hands to tear all
the meat apart. Although the 'Pork Knuckle' were fully cooked but the crispy skin
and the meat of the 'Pork Knuckle' were so hard that the utensils aren't strong and
sharp enough to cut up all the meat into pieces. As for the taste, I think that
it's pretty normal and to some extent, I think that the 'Pork Knuckle' was
overcooked. I think that it would taste much more better, if the skin of the 'Pork
Knuckle' still remains to be pretty crispy and the meat were much more tender and
not so tough.

'Variety of Sausages'
Basically it's a mixture of spicy chicken sausages, nürnberger sausages, pork
cheese sausages, weisswurst sausages and garlic pork sausages. Basically I can't
recall which is which, but one particular thing that I can guarantee you would
be the overall taste and the texture were unbelievably good. The bouncy, tightly
bound texture of the sausages were mouth-watering. Seriously, I find the sausages
far more impressive than the 'Pork Knuckle'.

'Pork Schnitzel'
This is pretty much similar to the 'Pork Chop' that you are getting from a local
western food stall. Basically, I find it a bit too ordinary. Probably it's due to
the fact that the dishes that was given in this platter were far too meaty and the
sausages were leaving a crazily good impression in my mind, therefore that might
be the main reason why I find the taste and the texture of the 'Pork Schnitzel'
pretty ordinary.

So where can you give all the delicious looking sausages a try?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Brotzeit®'.
They have a few outlets island wide and the photo above shows the outlet located
inside 'VivoCity'.

Notes:
  • Opening Hours:
    Sundays - Thursdays: 12noon - 12am
    Fridays - Saturdays: 12noon - 1am
  • The crowd during the weekends can be pretty nasty, therefore I would highly encourage you to make a reservation upfront. :D

Your friendly neighbourhood German Sausages... (Exact Location Updated)

Sausages. Probably one of the most irresistible fast food in this food. After you've eaten it once, you will probably just keep on going and going. But what's so great about German Sausages?

Well, basically I was comparing a normal Sausage with a German Sausage and it
seems that a German Sausage was much more bigger in size and much more ...
how do I put it... Aaaaah yesh... the word would be 'Solid'.
You meat lovers out there would definitely love this.

This stall have been selling German Sausages over the past few years.
For example: Cheese Sausages, Normal Sausages, Mini Sausages... XD
On top of that, they also sell Austrian Styled breads.

So where can you find this stall?
The name of the stall would be "Erich's Wuerstelstand".
It's located near Maxwell Market in the coffee shop along 'Banda Street'.
