Beautiful meal...

A good alternative to a plate economical rice would most most likely be an interesting plate of 'Nasi Lemak'. This would be something that we will be exploring today.

'Nasi Lemak'
If you can't really decide on the ingredients that you should be
getting, you can always go for the affordable set meals for a start.
And if you think that the set meal ain't big enough to satisfy your
needs, you can always top it up with another 1 or 2 more ingredients.

Anyway for a start, the neon green rice are glorious. Not only the
texture of the rice is moist and tasty, it also comes with the nice
fragrance of Pandan and Coconut. As you dig further, though the taste of
the fried egg isn't fantastic enough, but the crunchy sensation that
the peanuts and the 'Ikan Bilis' have given me are pretty good. On
top of that, I loved the crispy and not too oily texture of the
'Chicken Wing' that is used to cover up all the juicy and tender meat.
Even though every single meal also comes with a lump of Sambal Chilli
but it didn't really left a strong impression on me. :)

So where can you give the 'Nasi Lemak' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Wan Xing Nasi Lemak'(万兴椰浆饭).

No doubt why this is infamous...

Since I have a bit of time the other day, I decided to do something crazy and travel all the way up to the North mainly for one particular reason only (although it ended up to be a food trail again...) and that would be...

the infamous 'Nasi Lemak' located in the North.
And my order that day comes with a 'Fried Chicken Wing', 'Fried Ikan Kunning',
'Sambal Long Beans', 'Fried Egg', 'Ikan Bilis & Peanuts' and not forgetting the
generous portion of 'Nasi Lemak Rice'. The 'Fried Ikan Kunning' and 'Fried Egg'
was pretty normal. But, the rest of the ingredients are pretty tasty. For a start,
not only it's spicy, the 'Sambal Long Beans' and the crunchy texture just makes
it even much more irresistible. And I also like the crunchy mix of 'Ikan Bilis &
Peanuts'. I personally find the chilli over here to be pretty tasty and awesome.
Especially when I mixed it with some of the ingredients and rice, it could actually
boost the taste of a normal ingredient to something much more better. :D
(Therefore always ask for a bigger portion of chilli when you are dining at this
place, because the normal portion of chilli will never be enough. By the way, the
biggest drawback for me will be the lack of spiciness in the chilli. Would be
great if they can boost it further.)

Anyway, one must really give the 'Fried Chicken Wing' over here a try.
Not only the texture of the 'Chicken Wing' is ultra crispy, the
heavenly taste is a big (+) too. The meat itself is succulent and the
way they are marinating the 'Chicken Wing', reminds me of the the good
old days when I was studying in a Primary school.

This should give you a rough idea of the various types of ingredients that
they are preparing and selling over here. In fact, most of them are local
delights. For example: 'Curry Vegetables', 'Sambal Prawns', 'Curry Chicken',
'Fried Chicken Wing', etc...

And you can also choose to have it with either 'Nasi Lemak Rice', 'White
Rice', 'Bee Hoon(Rice Vermicelli)' or 'Noodles'.

The name of this place would be 'Chong Pang Nasi Lemak'(中邦椰浆饭).
It's located along 'Sembawang Road' and located pretty near
'Chong Pang Market & Food Centre'.

  • By the way, if you are not a queue person, you should try to reach this place by 5pm. This is because I was sitting at this place by 4:50pm and big crowds of people will suddenly appear out of nowhere when it reaches 5pm. On top of that, lots of people are making purchases for a large group of people, which makes the waiting time even much more longer. When I left this place, I think that the queue was at least 15 - 20 minutes long. O.O"""

High quality fish ball

They have more than 20 stalls tucked away in a corner of this market and even though I have already eaten some heavy stuff for dinner, but I saw this interesting Noodles stall and I decided to give it a try.

'Fishball Kway Teow'(Dry)
Initially, I thought that I don't need to wait for a very long time since there
isn't any queue, but I'm very wrong. It seems that everyone will place their
orders with the helpers at this stall and they will wait at their own seats.
Frankly speaking, what attracts me the most would be the fact that you can
request for more Noodles without any extra cost. Therefore I ended up placing an
order for a bowl of 'Fishball Kway Teow'(Dry) with extra portion of 'Kway Teow'.

For the bowl of 'Kway Teow', it might appear to be flooded with lots of sauces
and ingredients like 'beansprouts', 'Spring Onions' and 'Pork Lard'. But after
some intensive stirring, I managed to stir and mix everything together nicely.
When I started taking a bite from this bowl of 'Kway Teow', it's not as soggy
as how I have pictured it. In fact, the way they have seasoned this bowl of
'Kway Teow' has managed to boost it to a pretty delicious level. There's the
crunchy 'Beansprouts' + 'Pork Lard' and the tasty 'Kway Teow'. :D

Initially, I have actually placed an order for a bowl of 'Fishball Kway Teow',
but the helpers of this stall told me that they have insufficient number of
'Fishballs' left, therefore they were asking if I'm fine with the idea of
swapping some of the 'Fishballs' with 'Meatballs'. Well, I ended up accepting
the offer and after trying one of the 'Fishballs', I finally understand why
they have the problem of insufficient 'Fishballs'. Not only the 'Fishballs'
over here are bouncy and chewy, the 'Fishballs' are loaded with lots of fresh
fish meat too. In fact, when I was splitting one of the 'Fishballs' into 2
inside my mouth, both portions are bouncing inside my mouth for a short period
of time. I'm not exaggerating, but the 'Fishball' over here are really that
good. As for the soup itself, it comes with a nice non-pepperish, non watery
taste, which makes it pretty enjoyable too.

So where can you give the fish ball noodles a try?

Rainbow that looks like a complete mess...

How can a rainbow ended up to be a complete mess? Well, that might not be possible in a real-world situation but it can definitely happen on a food item itself.

'Rainbow Delight'(乱七八糟)
Seriously, the name of this dessert doesn't really match. How would it
be possible that the words 'Rainbow Delight' can ended up to be
'乱七八糟', which means a complete mess. This is pretty much similar to
one of those situations where 'Google Translate' have gone wrong, very
wrong. Anyway, the colour of this dessert is pretty much similar to
'Chendol' but taste wise...

On top of the multi-coloured Sago, the owner has also added all sorts
of fruits inside this dessert. There's 'Longan', 'Pineapple', etc...
Therefore the overall taste is not too sweet, but the taste of it is
kinda funky, which makes it pretty interesting too.

By the way, I was spending a bit of time observing this stall and it
seems that they are pretty generous when it comes to the portion too.
I saw the helpers of this stall serving numerous gigantic mountain of
'Ice Kacang' to their customers. And this would be something that you
will never get in a 'Modern Air Conditioned Coffee Shop'.

So where can you give this interesting dessert a try?
