Sitting next to a Tuk Tuk Cha...?

And nope, you don't need to go all the way to Thailand to have a meal next to a 'Tuk Tuk Cha'(Thailand's iconic transport vehicle). The same move is possible in Singapore too. :D

Left: Thai Milk Tea
Right: Homemade Lemongrass
Extreme opposites. For the Thai Milk Tea, the overpowering sweet taste simply makes it
irresistible. One could easily wipe out the whole cup in 1 sip. On the other end, the
Homemade is the kind of drink that could bring one out of a sleepy mode in 1 single sip.
The overpowering refreshing taste simply makes it a bit too crazy...

'Tom Yam Toast with Chicken Floss and Egg'
Hidden inside the toasted bread are a nice mixture of Tom Yam spread, topped with
'Chicken Floss' and 'Egg'. Though I'm not getting the fiery 'Tom Yum' sensation but
I'm getting a simplified 'Tom Yum' taste and a good mix of sweet ingredients. Not
too bad for a starter. :D

'Golden Toast'
The 'Golden Toast'. Though these are golden in color but they are not hard and
crunchy. In fact, they are crispy on the outer layer and fluffy inside. But that's
not the most indulging part. Once you dip the 'Golden Toast' into the different
types of dips, the real fun has just begin... Though they are offering different
types of dips over here but, I have ended up choosing the 'Homemade Pandan Kaya'
and 'Homemade Taro Kaya' a try. Both of them have this thick creamy texture and
I was scooping quite a big portion of it into my mouth. I personally find the
taste of the dips to be pretty thick and strong. Through these dips, I'm actually
getting the nice taste of 'Pandan' and 'Taro'. Not too bad for a snack.

So where can you give the snacks and drinks a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Tuk Tuk Cha'.
It's located inside 'Suntec City Tower 3'.
(See, there's a 'Tuk Tuk Cha' over here, though it's pretty much stagnant, but it
still have the looks of the 'Tuk Tuk Cha'. :P)

Thai Wanton Noodles !?!

This is a very VEry VERY big world. Even though they have the same name, but a dish prepared and sold in one end of the globe might ended up to be very different on the other end. And this has something to do with this post.

'Thai Wanton Mee'
Setting the chilli powder and sliced chillies aside, this looks pretty much like
the usual 'Wanton Noodles' that one can get in Singapore, except for the part
that the 'Wanton' are missing. Anyway though the springy and chewy Noodles are a
big (+), but I am actually quite disappointed with the overall taste of the Noodles.
Marked with the word 'Thai', I was expecting a sour and spicy sensation, but it's
simply not there. However, the slices of pork reminds me of the nice Japanese
'Char Siew'(Barbecue Pork), these slices of meat ain't too dry and at the same time
it still have the nice chewy sensation. Maybe I really have to go for the 'Spicy'
version to get what I desire? But wait, the 'Wanton' are still missing...

In fact, the 'Wanton' are served in a separate bowl of soup. The taste of the bowl
of soup is slightly a bit too bland for me. And there's nothing special about the
'Wanton', I wonder if the 'Fried Wanton' would be any better than those that are
served in a bowl of soup...

Here's the 'Thai Wanton Mee' set that I had for dinner that day. Maybe I should give
the 'Spicy Thai Wanton Mee' a good try one of these days...

So where can you give the 'Wanton Noodles' a try?
The name of this place would be 'BaaMee Bangkok'.

Mixing your own drinks and dessert at a affordable price...

I love eating. If eating can be registered as a hobby, I would gladly do so. And if you are a smart eater, you can easily find great places that can not only satisfied your appetite, your taste bud and at the same time it's wallet friendly too. :D

'Spicy Chicken Set'
Ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... they are offering different
types of set meals over here. Since this is the first time, I'm coming here
I decided to go with this set meal.

'Kimchi'
The side dish that comes with this meal would be a bowl of 'Kimchi'. Nicely
marinated, the bowl of 'Kimchi' isn't too spicy and at the same time pretty
tasty. Too bad the portion is kinda small, but as a side dish, it has
definitely served it's purpose and bring up my appetite too.

'Spicy Chicken'
Surrounded with a nice pool of spicy sauce and at the same time covered with
ingredients like Sesame and Spring Onions, the succulent and tasty plate of
chicken is a pretty good deal. With this plate of chicken, one can easily
wipe out 2 or more bowls of rice. (It's just kinda sad that they ain't
offering free flow of rice over here.) However...

'Coffee float'
Though they don't have free flow of rice over here, but they do have free
flow of beverages and ice cream over here. For a start, I was trying out
one of the special menu for coffee floats over here. How should I put it,
though I'm getting both a sweet and a bitter taste, but this just simply
couldn't catch my attention. Though I would really want to give tea float
a try... but definitely not after a unique coffee float.

The set meal over here not only comes with free flow of hot/cold beverages.
It also comes with free flow ice cream too. Besides offering several big
tubs of ice cream of different flavors, they also have a machine that gives
you the normal soft serve ice cream too. Since there isn't a time
restriction, therefore you can really sit here the whole enjoying the free
flow of beverages and ice cream and chill the whole afternoon away. :D

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Just Acia'
It has a few outlets island wide and the above shows the outlet located inside
'Dhoby Ghaut Xchange', which is located inside 'Dhoby Ghaut MRT'.

Not to be mistaken with the infamous place in Japan

I was browsing through various website the other day and I had come across this pretty interesting restaurant. And the most important point about this restaurant would be this amazing dish that is so so filling.... O.o...

'Thai Ice Tea'
Being a heavy tea lover, I will always start off a good meal at a
Thai restaurant with a good glass of 'Thai Ice Tea'. With a good
amount of sweetness, topped with the nice aroma and taste of the
tea leaves, makes this a pretty good drink to start your day.

Enough of the drink, it's time to move on to our 'Main', which
compromise of a plate of 'Jasmine Rice' and...

'Stir-fried Soft Shell Crab with Yellow Curry'
(Phunim Phad Pong Karee)
The sinful thick curry would be a big (+). You can easily wipe out
a bowl of white rice just by covering it with a sinful portion of
curry gravy. Not only the gravy tastes good, the Soft Shell Crab
that comes with it are pretty interesting too. Though you can easily
count the number of Soft Shell Crabs that were given using your 10
fingers but that isn't the most important point. The most important
point about this dish would be the fact that they are pretty crunchy,
juicy and the taste of the curry has blend in nicely.

'I-Thim Nara'
This comes with a scoop of Coconut Ice Cream and 8 other cups of
interesting toppings. There's the crunchy 'Peanuts', 'Sweet Corns',
sweet 'Nata De Coco', 'Attap Chee'(Palm Tree Seeds), 'Red Ruby'
(Water Chestnut coated in Colored Sago), 'Lot Chong'(Pandan Flavored
Rice Flour Droplets), 'Jackfruit' and 'Sticky Rice'. And iet the
D.I.Y Game begins...

Trust me, do not start with the 'Sticky Rice' first, else you will
regret it. The scoop of ice cream is simply far too small as
compared to the 8 different cups of toppings. As I wiped out 1/3
of the overall portion of toppings, the scoop of sweet coconut
ice cream was completely gone. But it was fun mixing the different
types of toppings of a different taste and texture and savor them
at one go. At the earlier stage you might be mixing those that
you favor the most, but as you move on, you will realize that you
need a strong incentive to balance things a bit. And that's where
the 'Sticky Rice' will step in. At the end of the day, despite of
my huge appetite, I only to managed to wipe out 70% of all the
toppings. And the nice waitresses over here was actually asking
if I want the leftovers. A bit too much for my stomach therefore...
Anyway if I happen to visit that restaurant again, I would probably
just place an order for this, which is the most filling dessert that
I have eaten up till now. :D

So where can you give the dessert a good try?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Nara Thai'.
It currently has 2 outlets in Singapore. The one in the above

Works like an atas Coffee Shop... but

Just how good can an air-conditional Coffee Shop be? Just by looking at the ones that you are getting in the shopping mall in your neighbourhood can give you a pretty good idea how it will turn out. However, there are exceptions too. For example...

Even though there's a few stalls inside this coffee shop, but most of the
customers here are ordering food from the stall selling 'sliced fish soup'.
Therefore I decided to give it a try too.

'Tom Yum Seafood Soup'
For a start, though I'm paying the same price that I'm getting at an atas
coffee shop, but with the looks of the soup, things are getting better and
better already. There's a big load of ingredients inside this bowl of soup
and on top of that, there's a nice mixture of different types of ingredients
too. Best of all, the soup looks pretty thick and fiery, which is also
something that interests me pretty much.

As I dig into the meal, the ingredients are coated with a thin and bright
layer of orange color, when I pull them out of the bowl of soup. As I took
a bite off these ingredients, there's a nice mix of sour and spicy taste,
though I personally find the spicy taste much more overpowering than the
sour taste. :P In fact, after finishing up all the fresh ingredients, things
just didn't end there. I started moving on to the bowl of soup. One scoop
after another, I finish the whole bowl of soup within minutes, which is a
big (+). :D

So where can you give the 'Tom Yum Seafood Soup' a good try?
The name of this atas coffee shop would be 'Hotspot Cafe & Restaurant'.
It's located on level 1 of 'Burlington Square' and at the same time, it's
opposite the 'Sim Lim Square' too.

Coz it's West Co'z...

Previously known as 'Ginza Plaza', which is more commonly known as a 'gaming heaven' for gamers, especially when there's a bigger ratio of 'LAN gaming shops' as compared to any other types of shops. It has undergo big changes and the 'gaming heaven' back then has changed drastically into a shopping mall and the same building has also changed it's name into 'West Coast Plaza' too.

'Sambal Kang Kong'
Not bad for a fusion food restaurant. For a start, the 'Sambal Kong Kong'
didn't end up to be too watery/soggy. The stalk still have this crunchy
touch. Though it's a big disappointment to me, but the spicy taste of this
dish is just right, not too spicy and not too bland. :D

'Curry Fish Head'
This would be the highlight of this post. This would be the main reason
why we were dining over there the other day.

For a start, just the generous portion of vegetables that were added into
the claypot can help you to clean up a plate of rice easily. There's
'Lady's Fingers', 'Fried Beancurd', 'Brinjal', etc... Before you dig into
the plate of 'white rice', do remember to topped it up with a scoop of the
thick, milky, tasty and not too spicy gravy of the 'Curry Fish Head'. :P

As for the 'Fish Head' itself, The taste of the gravy has blend into the
flesh of the fresh 'Fish Head' thoroughly. :) Not only it tastes good, the
portion is pretty generous too and best of all, the 'Price is Right'. :D

So where can you give these dishes a good try?
The name of this place would be "West Co'z Cafe".
It's a place that specialize in both 'Chinese' and 'Thai' food,
basically fusion cuisine and it's located on the top floor of
'West Coast Plaza'.

Notes:

  • By the way, this place can be pretty crowded during dinner. The other day, the crowd is so bad that they have to open up a few more tables along the corridor to minimize the number of disappointed and hungry customers.

Craving for Thai Food...

Even though there's a big Thai community in Singapore, that doesn't mean that you can only find good Thai food in areas like 'Golden Mile Complex'. For a start, there's places like the one listed in this post, awaiting for you to give it a good try. :)

'Thai Ice Milk Tea'
Unlike the normal Tea that we are getting at a normal stall, the 'Thai Milk Tea'
comes with condensed milk, which makes it pretty sweet and addictive. If you are
into sweet drinks, this would be something that you should be trying.

'Lemongrass Drink'
I didn't give this a try, but my friend did. He told me that the fragrance of the
'Lemongrass' over here isn't strong enough to attain the mind blowing effect. :P

'Mango Salad'
This 'Thai' appetizer has a nice mix of shredded 'Green Mango', sliced chillies and
'Cashew Nuts'. The refreshing(sour), spicy and sweet taste would be a good (+) and
don't forget about the crunchy sensation that you are getting from this dish. However,
if you are not into spicy stuff, you might find the taste of the salad to be pretty
fiery and disturbing.

'Pandan Chicken'
Even though it's merely specially marinated Chicken wrapped in Pandan Leaves, but
the taste of this dish is superb. Not only the Chicken is succulent and tasty,
it also comes with the nice fragrance of 'Pandan Leaves' too. :D

'Green Curry Chicken'
It's a pity that we didn't place an order for a plate of white rice or any of the
rice dishes listed on the menu. The thick, sweet and nice 'Green Curry' could really
go with any type of rice dishes. On top of the great taste of the 'Curry', it also comes
with a nice mix of yummy meaty ingredients and vegetables too. And if you are not into
fiery food, you can always give the 'Green Curry' a try, since it's giving a sweet
taste rather than a fiery sensation. :)

'Stir-fried Kang Kong with Belachan'
Rather than cooked it to the extent where the stalk will ended up to be pretty soft,
the 'Kang Kong' that were served in this dish still remains to be spicy and crunchy.
Though this dish also comes with the nice taste and fragrance of the 'garlic' and
the shrimps of the 'Belachan' chilli, but it's not fiery enough. It would be great
if they can spice up the overall taste of this dish by a bit more. :P

'Phad Thai Tang Hoon'
The Chinese called it 'Tang Hoon' and the 'Thai' called it 'Glass Noodles'. Unlike the
taste of the 'Rice Vermicelli', I prefered the taste and the tangy texture of the
'Tang Hoon' even much more. Despite going through all the hard work of squeezing the
lime and mixing all the ingredients(diced peanuts, chilli pepper, etc...) thoroughly,
I still find the taste of the 'Phad Thai' over here to be pretty average only. Probably
it's due to the fact that though a lot of ingredients have been added into this dish
and while eating, there's a nice mix of crunchy and chewy ingredients, and the overall
taste of this dish is delicious but not special enough for me.

'Clear Base Tom Yum Soup'
After taking a look at the earlier dishes, I was hoping that the portion of this soup
would be of a bigger size too, however it just seems to be kinda small to be shared
among the 2 of us. Although I am getting the 'Tom Yum' taste in this soup, but it's
kinda disappointing since it's not spicy enough (it's not even as spicy as the earlier
dishes like 'Green Mango Salad', etc...) and the amount of ingredients added into the
soup is another big disappointment. :(

So where can you give all the indulging 'Thai' food a try?
The name of this place would be 'Nakhon Kitchen'.
It's located in one of the corners of 'Blk 212 Hougang Street 21'.

Notes:
  • Opening Hours:
    Lunch: 12:00 – 15:00
    Dinner: 17:30 – 22:00
  • If you don't like to queue, you probably want to reach this place as early as possible. When we left the place at around 7+, the group of people standing at the end of the queue would probably need to wait for another 30 minutes or more, before they were taken to a table.

Thai food hidden in a corner...

After giving the 'Japanese food' upstairs a good try, my stomach still have lots of space for food. Therefore, we ended up giving this place a try too.

'Tom Yum Soup Set Meal'
Most of the thai dishes that they are offering over here are mainly main dishes.
It would either be a set meal that includes a bowl of rice and a plate or bowl of
ingredient, or a plate of special 'Fried Rice','Phad Thai', etc... I ended up
giving the 'Tom Yum Soup' a try, since that was one of my favourite thai dishes.

My first impression of the 'Tom Yum Soup' was pretty good. Not only the colour of
the soup looks pretty appealing to me, and in terms of the amount of interesting
ingredients added into the bowl of 'Tom Yum Soup', I would say that they are pretty
generous. Ingredients like 'Golden Mushroom', 'Fish Balls', 'Prawns', 'Crab meat
sticks' have been added into the bowl of soup. As I slowly tuck into the food, the
nice mixture of sweet, sour and spicy taste of the soup is a (+), but the texture of
the soup is a bit too powderish for me. But this also means that there might be
chances that they might be using lots of spices rather than instant 'Tom Yum' paste
throughout the process of preparing the soup too. :D Anyway, the taste of the
'Tom Yum Soup' have blend nicely with the taste of each individual ingredients too.
As I bite the ingredients, I could also sense and taste the 'Tom Yum Soup' bursting
out of the ingredients too. :P (For me, the biggest drawback would be the fact that
the food over here isn't spicy enough.)

So where can you give the thai food over here a try?
The name of this place would be 'Afira Amazing Thai Food'.
It's located in one of the corners on level 1 of 'Far East Plaza'.

Thai Food Feast...

I have been invited to a food tasting event at this Thai restaurant in Katong area. Even though I'm late for the event, but I still managed to reach the place as they were about to dig into the first dish...

'Mango Salad'
A nice mix of both crunchy(peanuts, shrimps), refreshing(slices of mango)
and spicy(sliced chillies) ingredients. This is in fact a very interesting
and nice appetizer, but if you are not into spicy stuff, it can ended up
to be an murderous dish. :P Oh, by the way, I guess this is one of the most
spiciest dish of the day.

'Thai Milk Tea'
I was trying to figure out what's the biggest difference between this and
the normal 'Milk Tea', but it seems to me that 'Thai Milk Tea' seems to
have the taste of spices and they have added much more milk into this Tea.
Therefore, it ended up to be a bit fiery and sweet. :D

'Tom Yum Soup'
This might be ordinary looking but how about...

We were having 'Seafood Tom Yum Soup' that day. Over here, they not
only have 'Seafood Tom Yum Soup', they also have 'Chicken', 'Pork' or
'Prawn Tum Yum Soup' over here too. Even though it's not spicy enough
but the amount of ingredients that was added into this dish is pretty
generous. Furthermore, the 'Tom Yum Soup' over here isn't the powderish
type and it's the kind of food that can easily help you to gobble down
a bowl of rice.

'Non Spicy Grilled Pork'
The succulent 'Grilled Pork' and the special Thai sauce that comes with
it would be the speciality of this dish. Although this is nice, but this
isn't my favourite dish that night.

'Glass Noodle Salad'
As for this salad, I think that everyone ended up focusing more on the
ingredients than the 'Glass Noodles' itself. On top of that, there's
a bigger portion of ingredients than 'Glass Noodles'. And it's topped
with a 'Chilli Lime Dressing', which adds a sour and refreshing touch
to this dish itself and change this into a pretty good appetizer too.

'Olive Fried Rice'
The 'Olive Fried Rice' is pretty oily. Although lots of peanuts and
minced pork have been added into this dish, but the greasy touch
just makes it difficult for anyone to go for a second round of rice.
Unless...

'Green Curry Chicken'
you have it with this. Luckily, they are serving the big plate of 'Olive
'Fried Rice' and the 'Green Curry Chicken' together. With this thick, milky
and Sweet Curry, the gravy itself can reduce the greasy touch of the
'Fried Rice'. On top of that, the big slices of chicken and vegetables
just make the overall taste better and better as you go on and on.

'Green Curry Chicken' & 'Olive Fried Rice'

'Thai Style Steamed Seabass'
I think that I ended up loving the sauce more the fish itself. It's the
not too spicy and sour sauce that keeps me going for more and more.

'Lemongrass Drink'
The over concentrated 'Lemongrass' drink is a bit too much for me. Just
by taking a sip from this drink, I already have the taste and fragrance
of 'Lemongrass' bursting inside my mouth. Just the aroma of the Tea alone
can keep you very awake for a very long time.

'Dry Curry Pork'
This would be my favourite dish that night. Although, it's given the name
'Dry Curry Pork', but in actual fact the succulent 'Pork' have this nice
aroma and taste of good 'Curry'. On top of that, the bite size pieces of
'Pork' not only makes it easy to chew, it also acts as a pretty good
finger food too. :D

'Claypot Tung Hoon Prawn'
This is actually very good. The 'Tung Hoon'(Vermicelli) is pretty moist
and even though it's dark in colour, it's not too salty. Too bad, I have
to keep a bit of space in my stomach for the desserts, else I would have
emptied the whole claypot of 'Tung Hoon' within minutes. By the way,
there's lots of prawns inside this small little pot of 'Tung Hoon' too. :D

'Mango Sticky Rice'
I don't have any memory of myself savouring this dish back then. But the
chilled and beautiful pieces of Mango is a (+). And when you have it with
the warm 'Sticky Rice', you will be amazed with the taste that you are
getting from this combination. :) The nice mix of the soft mango and the
'Sticky Rice' topped with Coconut milk just make things even better.

So where can you give all these 'Thai food' a good try?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Baan Khun Nai Authentic Thai Cuisine'.
It's located along 'East Coast Road'.
