Dining with the unexpected...

I don't really mind stepping into a restaurant full of decorative elements. And it can get pretty interesting when there's....

Since I have a big appetite, I decided to give the buffet menu a good try,
so that I can keep the damage to my wallet to the minimum...

'Starters'
Since most of the starters looked pretty interesting, I ended up trying
quite a lot of them.

'Seasoned Baby Octopus'(日式章魚仔)
Nicely seasoned, this is one of the favorites in the Japanese gourmet
world. And they have prepared it nicely. :D Not too bad for a start.

'Seasoned Jellyfish'(日式涼拌海蜇)
This is equally good as compared to the octopus. The chewy sensation
are simply too superb.

'Mouth-watering Chicken'(重慶口水雞)
Time to spice things up a bit. The chilled slices of spicy chicken
can really spice up my life?.

'Crispy Fish Skin with Salt & Pepper'(瑚盐魚皮)
Not getting the salty and pepperish touch, these crispy fish slices are
pretty nice in texture but pretty bland in taste.

'Fried Tofu with Sweet Chilli Sauce'(泰式炸豆腐)
Not too stingy with the ingredients, the taste is pretty normal but the
the portion is definitely there. In fact, most of the starters over here
comes with a pretty generous portion and great taste. In fact, I could
simply just stick to the starters only.

'Skewered food'('Satay'/'Yakitori'/'串烧')
Most of the 'skewered food' over here are pretty up to standards. Not
only it's chewy, the succulent meat chunks are simply irresistible,
especially those that are marked with a Japanese/local symbol on the
menu. In terms of the texture, those that are marker with the Chinese
symbol isn't that bad, it's just that they have covered those sticks
with a layer of overpowering pepper & salt, which makes it pretty
disturbing.... =.=""

Top: 'Enoki Mushroom'(金针菇)
Middle: 'Eggplant with Minced Garlic'(蒜香茄子)
Bottom: 'Butter Pumpkin'(牛油烤南瓜)
For the health-conscious, they also have a good selection of vegetables
dishes. Not too outstanding, but the taste isn't that bad either. :D

'Saba with Miso'(味噌烤鲭鱼)
Flooded with lots of tiny bones, but the sweet taste of the fish is
there. Just need to be extra careful with the bones. :P

'Japanese Udon'(日式乌冬面)
For the hard core eaters, there's always the Rice and Noodles alternative
too. Though I have given the Udon noodles a try but the use of ingredients
are pretty funky. Not that the taste is bad, it just that it seems to be
more of a Udon version of 'yakisoba'.

Time to make preparations for the last few dishes. Doesn't seems to work
as a Japanese Miso soup. But luckily I have placed orders for the...
'Miso Soup'(日式味噌汤)

Top: 'Coconut Creme Brulee'(椰香蛋塔)
Bottom: 'Cheese Cake'(豆腐芝士蛋糕)
After all the heaty stuff, time to work on the chilly stuff. The smooth
texture of these sweet desserts are pretty nice. I should have set aside a
bigger portion of my stomach for these desserts.

Here's a few photos of their menu. The buffet includes most of the stuff
except for the 'Premium' and the 'Beverages'.

The whole place is decorated with all these interesting action figures
and toys that are the 'in' thing in the past. I wonder how much effort
is needed to prevent people from stealing them.

So where can you give these dishes a good try?
The name of this place would be 'taan Charcoal Grilled Skewers Beer'(炭烤串烧啤酒).
It's hidden in one of the shop houses located along 'Liang Seah Street'.

please Remember To Eat.....

Okay, I think it's time for me to face the truth. I think that I'm spending too much time thinking about what I want to eat and where can I eat it. I had made a trip to the airport for a round of ramen for dinner a few days ago. After that, we decided to proceed to City Square Mall for the biggest fried chicken chop in town. Since the night is still young, we decided to have some desserts nearby...

A bucket of Beancurd that serves 1
Though the beancurd doesn't taste as good as their neighbour, but the
taste of it is pretty acceptable. However, the taste of the syrup is
crazily sweet. Please do not add too much syrup to the beancurd.
By the way, this is probably my first encounter with a bucket of
beancurd that serves 1. Their neighbour next door don't even provide
such services and this has given me another reason why I should visit
this place even much more. XD

'Black Sesame Snow Ice with Red Beans, Nata De Coco, etc'
Frankly speaking, a bucket of beancurd isn't big enough to satisfy my
needs. Therefore, I have also placed an order for this. The mini rice
balls were pretty delicious. The moment I started popping one of them
into my mouth, I just couldn't stop popping the next chewy rice ball
into my mouth. XD Anyway, the taste of the black sesame snow ice is
pretty strong and the crunchy red beans are something that you could
look forward to. :P (And I love red beans. :D)

'Mango Passion Fruit Snow Ice'
This looks 'mangoish'. Not only that the snow is yellow in colour,
the ingredients that are surrounding the snow ice are mostly yellow
in colour. Since I was busy tasting both of my desserts, therefore
I didn't have the time to give this a try, however the looks of it
has given me more reasons to visit this place again. :D

'Mango with Sago'
Didn't got the chance to give this a try too. :P

'???'
This is a free complimentary dessert. It seems that they will be
giving away a free complimentary dessert from time to time. (Though
there seems to be some conditions to it, but it ain't so difficult
to fulfil them, if you are dining in group.) If I'm not mistaken, this
is a dessert made out of almond and some sort of flower tea and the
taste of it is pretty interesting. Well, probably because I'm a
tea lover, therefore I'm getting a bit bias over here. :P

So where can you try all these desserts?

The name of this dessert place would be 'Ji De Chi'(记得吃).
It's located along 'Liang Seah Street'.

Taiwan Snow Ice

I just can't stop posting all these ice cold stuff. Either it's due to the hot weather or it's just being me. My stomach ruling my body? Or could it be merely temptation? Either ways, here comes...

'Super Combo Snow Ice'
Basically it's a bowl of shaved ice topped with a layer of fruits,
which includes strawberry, kiwi and mango. The size of it looks
kinda small, especially when I was trying to compare it against the
'Snow Ice' that I have seen in Singapore before. But the taste is
definitely there. The first few bites might ended up to be pretty
normal but as you move into the bottom of the bowl, the taste of
the melted ice will blend with the taste of the fruits and milk.
The taste of the blend is pretty good and it is pretty suitable
for a crazily hot day. :D

So where could you give this a try?

The name of this place would be 'Taipei Cafe'.
It's located on level 1 of 'North Bridge Commercial Complex',
which is located behind 'Bugis Junction' and it's located near
'Liang Seah' Street.

A tray of fish

Nope, there isn't a grammar mistake and it's neither a school of fish nor a plate of fish but it is really a tray of fish. I know it sounds kinda funny, but it is really a tray of fish. :D

Let's take a look at the images first.

For most of my meals, I will either choose to have Tea or some other
beverages that are non fizzy. Hence I have decided to place an order
for a pot of Chinese 'Pu-Er' Tea.

...Here goes the main dish of the day. :D

Here you go... a tray of fish. :D...
Did I heard someone complaining that the picture isn't clear enough?

A closer look at the dish.
I have choose to place an order for a 'Grilled Golden Snapper'
to be cooked in 'Sichuan Ma La' style. The soup of the dish looks
interesting. I wonder how will it really taste like. :D
And by the way, this dish doesn't contains the 'grilled fish' only.
It also includes vegetables like cabbage, celery, mushroom... etc.

Oh by the way, I think I have forgotten to mention the point that
you can select the level of spiciness that the 'Grilled Fish' can be.
As for myself, I have chosen the middle spicy and I already loved it.
I wonder how fantastic the most spiciest 'Grilled Fish' will taste like. :D

The above will be pictures of menu of the place.

So where exactly is the name of the place an where is it located?
This would be the restaurant behind the dish in the above.
The name of the restaurant would be 'Chong Qing Grilled Fish'.
Currently they have 2 branches in Singapore.
One of them is located in Mosque Street, which is
somewhere in Chinatown while the other branch was
located in Liang Seah Street.

Passion for a Duck

Nope, I'm not talking about male prostitute or something like that. What I&aposm going to talk about today, would be 'duck rice'.

If you have been following my blog for the past few weeks, you might have come across a post on 'Chicken Rice'. After tasting or trying a plate of 'Chicken Rice', Some people tend to picture 'Duck Rice' as a set meal with merely white rice, a few slices of duck meat and a few slices of cucumber. Probably you are right in some way but as for myself, I personally felt that duck rice should comes with ...
A good plate or bowl of Braised rice or Yam rice.

Besides for the Duck meat, which is pretty delicious when you eat it with the Braised Rice.
Some other reasons that make me a regular customer of this place would be...
  • The large variety of delicious chilli sauces
  • The delicious side dishes that you can order. For example: a plate full of 'Kway Chap' dishes, salted vegetables, braised peanuts, etc.

So what sort of place can prepared such a good plate of Duck Rice?
This would be the place. The name of the stall would be 'You Ji Duck Rice'(友记家传鸭饭). It's located in one of the coffee shop behind Bugis Junction. If you are pretty familiar with the area around Bugis Junction, this 'Duck Rice' stall was located in one of the coffee shop located at the entrance to Liang Seah Street.
