Unique outlet of 'Astons'

Ever since they have opened their first outlet in the East side of Singapore, the outlets started popping up in different parts of Singapore over the last few years. Therefore, ever since I have knew about this unique outlet of 'Astons', I have decided to give it a try. Hence...

'Fried Fish Dinner Set Meal'
At this outlet, all the main courses will come with 'X' and a
side dish(either 'Baked Potato' or 'French Fries'). I ended up
choosing 'French Fries' since I knew that the 'Baked Potato' of
can be pretty filling. And I would really want to leave lots of
space in my stomach for 'X'.

For a start, I loved the crispy texture of the fish that was
covered in breadcrumbs. With a texture that was so crispy, I was
hoping that the meat doesn't end up to be too hard and stiff too.
Luckily, the chef of 'Astons' didn't fail my expectations and
they have somehow managed to prepare it such that the fish would
have this crispy texture and the meat itself was pretty fresh,
soft and moist. Not only the texture of the fish meat is
relatively good, it can blend in with the Tartar sauce pretty
good too, which deserves a very big (+).

So what exactly is 'X'?
'X' is actually the premium salad buffet that is included as
part of the meal that you have ordered.

Though it's known as a premium salad buffet, but it's much more
fanciful as compared to a salad bar. For a start, they have
prepared more than 4 different types of soups. There's 'onion
soup', 'sweet corn soup', etc... There's a good mix of different
types of soup of a different texture and taste. And they have
also thrown in one of my favorite side dish at 'Astons', which is
the 'Whipped Potato'. You can not only go 1 scope but unlimited
serving of 'Whipped Potato' over here, isn't that a good start? :)
Note: the sauce and the 'Whipped Potato' are separated hence you
can decide on the proportions of the 'Whipped Potato' yourself.

In order to satisfy all the customers, they have also thrown in
fried stuff like 'Potato Wedges', 'Onion Rings', etc... into the
buffet too. And to some, these ain't as important as the crunchy
'Garlic Bread' that comes with a nice taste and aroma of 'Garlic',
that blends in pretty well with the soup too.

They have also provided a good spread for those that couldn't
live without pasta or rice dishes, like me. The sauce of the pasta
is so rich that I was dipping some of the deep fried finger food
inside it too. On top of that, for mushroom lover, the 'Saute
Button Mushroom' is a must try. Not only the mushroom are juicy,
the chewy sensation is a (+) too.

After having more than 5 rounds of soup, I don't really have that
much space left in my stomach for the cold dishes.
However, I still managed to grab a few scoops of the 'Potato Salad',
which is also one of my favorite sides at 'Astons'. They have also
allocated a small corner for cut fruits, which includes stuff like
'Watermelon', 'Pineapple', 'Honeydew', 'Grapes', etc... And that's
not all...

There's always room for desserts. Though it only comes with 1
flavor only, but there's a variety of toppings that you can choose
from. I love to have mine with all the small little crunchy bits.
Besides for the 'Ice Cream', they have also provided free flow of
beverages over here too. Personally speaking, with all the soup
choices and the Ice Cream, I didn't even fell like touching the
beverages at all. :P

So where can you give this unique outlet of 'Astons' a good try?
It's known as 'Astons Steak & Salad'.
It's located on level 3 of 'CentrePoint'.

Burning with Style?

After numerous weeks of eating and trying out new diners, I realised that I haven't been trying Indian food for quite some time. I started keeping a lookout for interesting Indian diners and I managed to come across... this.

'Papadum'
After placing my orders, this basket of 'Papadum' just appear out of
nowhere. While waiting for my orders, I decided to give the 'Papadum'
a go first. Well, the texture is reasonably crispy. Luckily, I was
dining alone, else it's kinda sad if I have to share this delicious
basket of 'Papadum' with a group of people.

'Spices / Sauces'
I don't think I have used any of these at all. And that just proves
how good the 'Papadum' and the subsequent food items are... :)

'Vindaloo Curry + Saffron Rice'
These are the items that I have ordered for my dinner the other day.

'Vindaloo Curry(Chicken)'
This is/would probably end up to be the most reddish portion of
Curry that I have seen for the year 2014. I was stirring it for a
short while and it seems that the texture of the Curry over here,
isn't watery at all. In fact, it's pretty thick and solid. Oh by
the way, as you placed an order for this, the waiter will ask you
to choose the level of spiciness that you want. On a scale of 1-10,
with 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest level. Taste wise,
I would write about it in a short while. (Anyway, I ended up trying
level 7 :D.)

'Saffron Rice'
Hmmm, in fact I don't find this any different from the usual
'Biryani Rice' that I'm getting outside. However, one thing I
don't like about the food over here would be the portion. The
portion of the food over here just isn't big enough for me. :(

Once I started digging into both dishes, the colors of the Curry
looks pretty overpowering. In fact, it was really very spicy and
tasty. The first few spoonful might not have an impact on you, but
the tension will slowly build up and burn you inside out for a short
period of time. This in fact was pretty good. I wonder how the highest
level would ended up to be. Well, that's something that I'm pretty
interested to find out. On top of that, the boneless chicken that comes
with the Curry are pretty tender and well 'marinated' with the Curry.
However, to summarize the overall dining experience, I still find the
spicy Curry to be the most memorable part of that meal.

So where can you give the food a good try?
Located in 'Cuppage Terrace'...

lies an 'Indian' Dining restaurant known as 'Curry Culture'.
And that's the place where you can find and give the spicy
'Vindaloo Curry' a good try.

How big can a burger be?

That would be the main subject of this post. How big can a burger be? :P Everything starts at a pretty big Hong Kong Cafe...

'Drinks corner'
Besides for the usual drinks that you can get at a Hong Kong Cafe, this
place has come up with all sorts of interesting names for the ice
blended drinks. Not knowing what I will be getting, I decided to go for
one of the ice blended drinks, 'At the Threshold of An Era'(创世纪)
[shown on the left]. It's filled with the taste of Honeydew but up till
today I still can't find the link between the name and the drink. :|
(There's also drinks that comes with the name of Burning Hearts(烈火雄心),
etc... In fact if you are a HK drama fanatic, you could easily identify
popular HK drama names that are used in naming the ice blended drinks.
Reminds me of the late 90s where HK dramas play a very big role in my life. :D))

'Thick Toast Bread with Peanut Butter'
How can I leave without trying the thick toast.
In fact this is a pretty common dish in all the HK Cafe in Singapore.
It's just that I can't resist these toast. Especially when it comes
with a very thick layer of peanut butter on top of the toast. :P
Although one could get pretty sick of the toast after a few bites,
but this is definitely something one could share with the others.
Unless you can finish the whole thing by yourself. :P
(I miss those days where me and my friends will hang out at a HK Cafe
chit-chatting over a few thick toasts in the middle of the night.)

This place also serve noodle dishes, rice dishes, baked rice, dim sum,
vegetarian food etc... There ought to be something for everyone to try. :P

And here comes the main subject of the day...
'Giant Size HK Burger'
This burger is indeed very big. Though I think, I think only, it's
pretty much possible for me to finish the burger myself, but
excluding the fries. :P Either ways, the chef has added lots and
lots of vegetables and chicken patties inside the burger.
Although the taste is pretty much normal but the grand appearance
of it has definitely bring us a lot of laughter and fun.
(By the way, if you happen to be celebrating your birthday at
this place and you are in a group of 6, you can get the
'Giant Size HK Burger' for free. Note: it's not a must for
you to visit the place on your birthday. As long as it's
plus or minus 3 days from your birthday, you are entitle
to the 'Giant Size HK Burger' promotion. :P)

By the way where can you get the 'Giant Size HK Burger'?

The name of the HK Cafe would be 'Causeway Bay HK Cafe'. Currently they only have a branch in Singapore and it is located at CentrePoint Shopping Centre Level 1.
