Not to be mistaken with the infamous place in Japan

I was browsing through various website the other day and I had come across this pretty interesting restaurant. And the most important point about this restaurant would be this amazing dish that is so so filling.... O.o...

'Thai Ice Tea'
Being a heavy tea lover, I will always start off a good meal at a
Thai restaurant with a good glass of 'Thai Ice Tea'. With a good
amount of sweetness, topped with the nice aroma and taste of the
tea leaves, makes this a pretty good drink to start your day.

Enough of the drink, it's time to move on to our 'Main', which
compromise of a plate of 'Jasmine Rice' and...

'Stir-fried Soft Shell Crab with Yellow Curry'
(Phunim Phad Pong Karee)
The sinful thick curry would be a big (+). You can easily wipe out
a bowl of white rice just by covering it with a sinful portion of
curry gravy. Not only the gravy tastes good, the Soft Shell Crab
that comes with it are pretty interesting too. Though you can easily
count the number of Soft Shell Crabs that were given using your 10
fingers but that isn't the most important point. The most important
point about this dish would be the fact that they are pretty crunchy,
juicy and the taste of the curry has blend in nicely.

'I-Thim Nara'
This comes with a scoop of Coconut Ice Cream and 8 other cups of
interesting toppings. There's the crunchy 'Peanuts', 'Sweet Corns',
sweet 'Nata De Coco', 'Attap Chee'(Palm Tree Seeds), 'Red Ruby'
(Water Chestnut coated in Colored Sago), 'Lot Chong'(Pandan Flavored
Rice Flour Droplets), 'Jackfruit' and 'Sticky Rice'. And iet the
D.I.Y Game begins...

Trust me, do not start with the 'Sticky Rice' first, else you will
regret it. The scoop of ice cream is simply far too small as
compared to the 8 different cups of toppings. As I wiped out 1/3
of the overall portion of toppings, the scoop of sweet coconut
ice cream was completely gone. But it was fun mixing the different
types of toppings of a different taste and texture and savor them
at one go. At the earlier stage you might be mixing those that
you favor the most, but as you move on, you will realize that you
need a strong incentive to balance things a bit. And that's where
the 'Sticky Rice' will step in. At the end of the day, despite of
my huge appetite, I only to managed to wipe out 70% of all the
toppings. And the nice waitresses over here was actually asking
if I want the leftovers. A bit too much for my stomach therefore...
Anyway if I happen to visit that restaurant again, I would probably
just place an order for this, which is the most filling dessert that
I have eaten up till now. :D

So where can you give the dessert a good try?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Nara Thai'.
It currently has 2 outlets in Singapore. The one in the above
shows the outlet located on Basement 3 of 'ION Orchard'.

Case of the missing finger...?

I have tried countless 'Fried Chicken' from different parts of Singapore, but this is the first time I'm giving 'Korean Fried Chicken' a try. But what makes it so different from the normal 'Fried Chicken'? That would be something that I will be exploring today. :)

'4 Fingers Crispy Chicken Set Meals'
This would be one of their best sellers. It comes with both wings and drumettes
topped with a small portion of fries and a drink. Over here, you get to choose
the favoring for the Chicken. You can choose from 3 different sauces, they are
'Soy Garlic' or 'Hot' or 'Mix'. As for the fries that comes with the set meal,
there are 2 different seasoning for you to choose too and they are 'Kim Chi' and
'Seaweed Red Pepper' fries. Anyway, I ended up choosing the 'Mix flavor' for the
'Chicken' and fries that doesn't come with any seasoning.

The fries are pretty normal for a start. Although they are neither too soft nor
too crunchy, but there isn't anything special about the taste of the fries too.
Probably I should have gone ahead with one of the seasonings, in order to get a
unique experience. As for the 'Fried Chicken', it's actually quite different from
the 'Western Fried Chicken'. Unlike the 'Western Fried Chicken' that comes with
a thick crispy layer of coating, over here you won't be getting that. What you are
actually getting over here would be a far more thinner and less oilier layer of
deliciously marinated crispy coating. Though it's slightly a bit sticky too.
However as you dig into the meat of the Chicken, the juicy and chewy sensation
would be a big (+). It fact, the taste of the sauce is so good that I just couldn't
stop myself from licking my fingers. :P But, it would be great if they can increase
the portion much much more, so that heavy eaters like me wouldn't leave the place
with an half emptied stomach.

So where can you give the 'Chickens' a good try?

  • Not sure about the other outlets, but the queue at 'ION Orchard' just doesn't fails to amaze me. It just keeps going on and on. There's always a queue leading out of the place, every time I pass by the place.

Tea With Greatness...?

Since I haven't been eating Macaron for a very very long period of time, therefore I was keeping an lookout for places where I can give it a good try. (In fact this makes me wonder, have I eaten it before...?)

'Japanese Houjicha Tea Set'
Since this was a reputed 'Tea' place, therefore my expectations for this place tends
to be much more higher. They are selling more than 100 types of tea from all over the
globe over here and since I wasn't a very big fan of English Tea, I ended up selecting
one of my favourite type of Japanese tea. And that would be the infamous roasted
Japanese Tea, 'Houjicha'.

However, the taste of the Japanese Tea is rather disappointing. The taste of the tea
is too bland and I'm not getting the nice fragrance of the roasted tea too. This might
be caused by either the amount of tea leaves that was added into the tea pot or the
temperature of the hot water that they are pouring into the tea pot. Either ways, I
think that my daily brew of the 'Houjicha' tastes much more better than theirs. Well,
there might be another possibility that they specialises in the Western Tea and not
the Asians type. Either ways, I don't think that I will give the Asian Tea over here
a try again.

'Macarons'
Currently, they are offering 10 different types of Macarons on their daily menu.
There's Blackcurrant, Rose, Camelot, Chocolate, Passion Fruit, Lemon, Vanilla,
Napoleon, Mint and Matcha flavours. Basically all the individual flavours comes
with a unique filling that is a mixture of tea and several types of ingredients.
Although I'm not a big fan of Macarons, but when I tried to use a fork to pierce
one of the Macarons, it split into half immediately. And as I put one of them into
my mouth, I realised that the top and the base of the Macaron was actually pretty
crunchy and at the same time not too hard, which is pretty nice for a start. Well,
although these are expensive bite-size friendly pastry, but the Macarons that they
are offering over here are very delicious and very suitable for High-Tea.

So where can you give all these delicious 'Macarons' a try?
The name of the place would be 'TWG Tea Company'.
They currently have a few branches island wide. Though it's stated island-wide but it seems
that most of the branches are either located in the south or central part of Singapore.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
Although the daily opening hours of the 'ION Orchard' branch starts from 10am - 10pm, but it seems that the opening hours of the individual branch varies. Therefore, it will be much more wiser for you to check the opening hours of the nearest branch located near you from 'The TWG Company' website.

The Largest Fried Chicken strikes back...

I had written about this place some time back. And I was passing by the place today and...

Besides for the 'Original' flavour, the 'Spicy' flavour and the 'BBQ Lemon Chicken',
it seems that the owner of this stall have roll out a few more new flavours.
The new flavours are 'Onion Chicken', 'Garlic Chicken', 'Curry Chicken',
'Seaweed Chicken' and 'Sour Plum Chicken'.

With no camera flashingWith a bit of camera flashing...

Since I haven't been eating this for a very long time, I decided to give one of the new
flavours a try. Therefore... 'Curry Chicken' flavour has been selected. :P The size
of the 'Fried Chicken' still remains to be pretty big and the crispy touch still
remains to be pretty good. Taste wise, basically it is using the original
'Fried Chicken' as the base and they are sprinkling the Curry powder all over it.
Though it ended up to be a bit too powder-ish but the aroma of the Curry powder
is pretty nice. Although the taste of the Curry powder happen to be pretty strong
, but I still prefer the taste of the original or the spicy flavour, which is also
not too powder-ish.

So what is the name of this stall again?
The name of this stall would be 'Hot Star Large Fried Chicken'.
It seems to be expanding rapidly over the past year. It currently have 4 outlets
in Singapore and they are located at Basement 1 of 'City Square Mall', Level 3 of
'Nex Mall Serangoon', Basement 1 of 'Tampines 1' and Basement 4 of 'ION Orchard'.
So why don't you quickly make your way to the outlet closest to you and comment
about the new flavours that they are offering over here, in this blog. :P

Note:
  • They wouldn't cut the Fried Chicken into pieces so WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get)...

Go Go Curry have wind up their business!!!

Probably I'm undergoing the process of growing up, therefore I have been eating a lot of food for dinner. (Which is something that I have been doing most of the time... ==) Either ways, since I'm pretty hungry yesterday, therefore I decided to have lots of food for dinner. Hence 'Go Go Curry' would be the best choice. However, it seems that 'Go Go Curry' have wind up their business and it was replaced by a new Curry restaurant and it seems that all the 'Go Go Curry' restaurant have been replaced by the same restaurant.

'Monster Combo Curry'
The above shows the 'Monster Combo Curry',
which is meant for 2, was pretty big indeed.
Ingredients like salad, 'Yakiniku'(Fried Meat), Deep Fried Prawns,
Fish fillet, Pork Cutlet, etc... was included in it.
(You will be given the option to choose the spicy level of the
curry that you can include in your curry rice. Been a big fan of
spicy food, I will just go with the spiciest level. :P)
Probably, I have been eating a lot of spicy food since I was a kid,
therefore I personally thinks that this isn't spicy enough. :P

As compared to the 'Grand Slam' of 'Go Go Curry',
I think that this is much more bigger and much more delicious.
However the curry of 'Go Go Curry' are much more thicker and
they are much more cheaper. =="
Besides for the 'Monster Combo Curry', they also prepare and
sell beef curry, Tempura Curry, Cheese Curry, etc... all sorts of curries.
Either ways, if you are think that you can eat a lot,
you probably might want to give the 'Monster Combo Curry' a try.

The name of the new Curry restaurant would be 'Monster Curry'.
And the above shows the branch that is located on Basement 4 of
'ION Orchard' shopping centre.

Tonkatsu

If I want to eat 'Tonkatsu', but I don't want to have it with rice, will that be possible? The answer to the question would be 'Yes'. In fact, in Singapore, besides for 'Tonkatsu' sets that comes with rice, you can also get dishes like 'Tonkatsu' sandwiches, 'Tonkatsu' Ramen, 'Tonkatsu' Soba... etc.
Therefore, the main topic this week would be 'Tonkatsu' sandwiches. :D

The following are photos of 'Tonkatsu Sandwiches'.
'Tonkatsu Sandwiches'
The concept behind this 'Tonkatsu Sandwiches' is more or less similar to
the 'Ham sandwiches' that some of us have been eating daily. However,
as compared to the thin slices of 'Ham' that we are getting, the 'Tonkatsu'
are more more thicker, the taste are much more heavier and more delicious.
And on top of the points listed in the above, the crunchy touch of the
'Tonkatsu' is something that the thin slices of 'Ham' would never have.:D
(However, the portion that I'm getting can't satisfy my hunger.
Probably only the normal 'Tonkatsu' set can satisfy my hunger.)

SO where can you get this 'Tonkatsu' Sandwiches?
The photos in the above are taken outside the shop. The name of the shop
would be 'Ginza Bairin' and they have a branch located at basement 4 of
'ION Orchard' shopping centre.
