Not just Pasta and Sausages...

This would be my first visit to the new shopping mall 'Jem'. Rather than walking around the shopping mall aimlessly, I was actually invited to a food tasting event at a 'European Restaurant'. And the following are the list of items that we have tasted that day. :D

'Roasted Pork Knuckle (Half)' served with
Sauerkraut, Light Brown Sauce and Mashed Potato
'Pork Knuckle', a difficult delicacy to savour. So why is it a difficult delicacy?
While trying out the 'Pork Knuckle' that different types of restaurants are offering,
I find the part of cutting the extremely crispy skin to be the most annoying. Some
of the 'Pork Knuckle' out there in the market are as hard as a rock and the dining
experience could easily turn into an unpleasant one. As for the 'Pork Knuckle' over
here, they have nicely sliced it up into small slices, which makes it much more easier
to be shared among a group of friends. Although I find parts of the skin to be a bit
too tough, but the meat is pretty tender and it goes well with all the side dishes.

'CurryWurst'
Though it's known as 'CurryWurst', it's actually 'Bratwurst'(a type of German Sausage)
topped with 'Curry Powder', 'Ketchup' and 'Onions'. The 'CurryWurst' were crispy on the
outside and it's juicy, bouncy and tender on the inside. On top of that, the nice mixture
between the taste of the 'Curry Powder' and the 'Sausage' is heavenly and it's worth a
big (+). Fries wise, isn't something special, but you can dipped it in the sauce to
enhance the taste of the fries even further.

'Chicken Corden Bleu'
The breaded chicken breast meat are stuffed with smoked ham and cheese and it's added
to a pool of mushroom cream sauce and 'Spatzle' + 'Purple Cabbage'. Probably the first
2 items are far more tasty and meaty than this dish, therefore I find the taste of this
dish to be pretty ordinary. And it's the pool of delicious 'Mushroom Sauce' and the
chewy ingredients that have gained my attention.

'Honey Ginger Chai Latte'
Since this is suppose to be a mixture of 'Honey', 'Ginger' and 'Chai', I was hoping that
there would be a mixture of both spicy and sweet taste. However, the end product seems to
be neither here nor there and the taste seems to be pretty normal for a 'Chai Latte'.

'Ambush Paella'
This dish comes with lots of seafood ingredients. There's 'White Clams', 'Mussels',
'Queen Scallop', 'Prawns', 'Sliced Bacon' and 'Sausages'. The rice itself ended up
to be sticky but the taste of the ingredients have blend into the rice nicely.
However, the portion is kinda small for an individual.

'Baby Scallop & Flying Fish Roe - Squid Ink Sauce'
This is a plate of 'Black Coloured Pasta' topped with Japanese 'Hotate'(Scallop).
Though the overall texture of the 'Pasta' is slightly a bit oily, but the overall
taste is pretty interesting. In fact, there's a mix of butter and squid ink in
every single bite, which is amazingly interesting. :P

'Char Grilled Lamb Saddle Steak'
The chewy steak is pretty tender and it doesn't comes with the strong odour of
'Lamb'. However, probably I'm not so much into the 'Lamb', therefore I ended up
spending more time savouring the vegetables and 'Mashed Potatoes' more than
anything else.

'Crispy Chicken & Seaweed - Aglio Olio Ambush Style'
Although the texture of the pasta is slightly a bit oily, but the taste and the
crispy of the fried chicken is pretty good. When you have mix all the ingredients
together, the nice mix of crunchy and chewy ingredients is a good combination. :P

'Poulet Roti'
The specially marinated 'Chicken' not only tastes good, the succulent meat is a
(+) too. But after giving numerous meaty dishes a try, I ended up spending more
time digging into the vegetables, 'Mustard Mashed Potato' and the mushroom sauce. :P

'Schweinmedallion'
Pan grilled slices of 'Pork' surrounded with a pool of 'Mushroom Sauce' and side
dishes like 'Spatzle' and 'Purple Cabbage'. The texture of the meat is slightly
a bit more dry and firm than the 'Pork Knuckle' and you probably need to add a
bit of 'Mushroom Sauce' over it to enhance the taste of the meat further.

Now it's time for some desserts...

'Molten Chocolate Brownie'
A mix of both hot and cold ingredients. The hot chocolate brownie is topped with
a scoop of 'Vanilla' ice cream.

'Tiramisu'
This is a pretty innovative way to serve the 'Tiramisu'. You will be given a plate
of breadcrumb sticks and you actually have to dip and scoop out the dessert yourself.

'Apple Crisp'
Probably because I'm not a big fan of chocolate, therefore out of all the desserts
that I have tried over here, I find the taste of this to be the best. It's a slice
of apple pie topped with a scoop of 'Vanilla' ice cream and sweet 'Caramel' syrup.

'Chocolate Lava Souffle'
The last item that we tried that day would be this. Though it's a 'Lava' cake, but
there isn't a lot of 'Lava' flowing out of the cake when we slice it open.

So where can you give all these 'European Food' a try?
The name of this 'European Restaurant' would be 'Ambush'.
The above shows the outlet located on level 4 of 'Jem'.

please Remember To Eat.....

Okay, I think it's time for me to face the truth. I think that I'm spending too much time thinking about what I want to eat and where can I eat it. I had made a trip to the airport for a round of ramen for dinner a few days ago. After that, we decided to proceed to City Square Mall for the biggest fried chicken chop in town. Since the night is still young, we decided to have some desserts nearby...

A bucket of Beancurd that serves 1
Though the beancurd doesn't taste as good as their neighbour, but the
taste of it is pretty acceptable. However, the taste of the syrup is
crazily sweet. Please do not add too much syrup to the beancurd.
By the way, this is probably my first encounter with a bucket of
beancurd that serves 1. Their neighbour next door don't even provide
such services and this has given me another reason why I should visit
this place even much more. XD

'Black Sesame Snow Ice with Red Beans, Nata De Coco, etc'
Frankly speaking, a bucket of beancurd isn't big enough to satisfy my
needs. Therefore, I have also placed an order for this. The mini rice
balls were pretty delicious. The moment I started popping one of them
into my mouth, I just couldn't stop popping the next chewy rice ball
into my mouth. XD Anyway, the taste of the black sesame snow ice is
pretty strong and the crunchy red beans are something that you could
look forward to. :P (And I love red beans. :D)

'Mango Passion Fruit Snow Ice'
This looks 'mangoish'. Not only that the snow is yellow in colour,
the ingredients that are surrounding the snow ice are mostly yellow
in colour. Since I was busy tasting both of my desserts, therefore
I didn't have the time to give this a try, however the looks of it
has given me more reasons to visit this place again. :D

'Mango with Sago'
Didn't got the chance to give this a try too. :P

'???'
This is a free complimentary dessert. It seems that they will be
giving away a free complimentary dessert from time to time. (Though
there seems to be some conditions to it, but it ain't so difficult
to fulfil them, if you are dining in group.) If I'm not mistaken, this
is a dessert made out of almond and some sort of flower tea and the
taste of it is pretty interesting. Well, probably because I'm a
tea lover, therefore I'm getting a bit bias over here. :P

So where can you try all these desserts?

The name of this dessert place would be 'Ji De Chi'(记得吃).
It's located along 'Liang Seah Street'.

Wala, Time for some good pratas....

Through the recommendations of my friends, I finally have the chance to give this place a try. I wanted to give this place a try much much earlier but it seems that either luck isn't on my side or much more people have idea as I do. Either ways...

Dinner is served...
'Ice Limau'
Nothing much I can describe about this drink except for
the part that it's very sour. I was expecting for a slice
of lemon to be added to this but I ended up getting a pure
lime juice. Crazily sour for a hot and humid weather.

'Dum Chicken Biryani'
I have ordered the 'Dum Chicken Biryani' as the main dish,
which also comes with 'Achar'(the vegetables), 'Sambar'
(the vegetables stew) and 'Papadum'(the cracker).

So what's a 'Dum Chicken Biryani'?
Basically a 'Dum Chicken Biryani' has a slight difference with
normal biryani. 'Dum Chicken Biryani' means that the chicken
meat and the Biryani rice would be cook and served together.
(Basically, all the 'Dum XXX Biryani' means that the XXX meat
and the biryani rice would be cook and served together.)

Taste wise, the taste of the thick 'Sambar' is pretty strong.
It's filled with a strong potato taste and I love it.
(Pretty ironic, I don't like 'French Fries' but I loved this.)
The crunchy 'Achar' is pretty fantastic too. (Especially when
lots of crunchy cucumber has been given. :P) The crunchy
'Papadum' is a big plus too though one slice isn't enough for me.
As for the biryani rice and the chicken, I personally find it
to be pretty normal only. Probably it would have taste much more
better if they have cook it for a bit more longer. Or perhaps
probably there are numerous complains that the biryani is too
hot to be eaten, therefore they have decided to...
Either ways, I miss the idea of having the 'Biryani RIce' with
some spicy curry and I think that I should try asking for some
spicy curry the next time round. :P (Hmmm... I wonder if I can
ask fore more biryani rice too...)

'Plain Prata'
This is one of the main reason why I have come to this place
for dinner. The 'Prata'. It seems that the 'prata' here is
one of the speciality of this place. (Even the name of the
place says so.) And it has really meet up to my expectations.
The 'prata' is very crispy. Although it's slightly a bit
smaller than normal 'pratas' but this is definitely one of
the crispiest one. The strong curry that comes with it, is
pretty tasty too. This makes me wonder if the other types
of 'pratas' are as good as this.

'Chilli Prata'
This is filled with green chillies. :D This is pretty interesting.
When I was looking at the item on the menu, I was wondering
if the prata is made up of a mixture of flour and grilled
chilli sauce. Never did I expect it to be green chillies.
Either ways, the prata still remains to be pretty crispy
and by adding green chillies can satisfy my fancy 'Chilli
desire'. (Note: this isn't very spicy, so go ahead give it a try.)

'Chicken Murtabak'
My opinion, please do not try to finish this alone. ==
I thought that I can finish a prata and a Murtabak easily,
but my jaws were dropping after taking a look at the Murtabak.
Although the size is pretty big, but luckily it isn't too
thick and the chef didn't stuff a lot of meat inside the
Murtabak. But they have stuffed a combination of spices,
chicken meat and a bit of vegetables inside the murtabak
in order for it to smells and taste good. :)
(Note: If you are a meat lover, go for the murtabak that
you can get at 'Spize'.)

So where to get all these tasty 'pratas'?
The name of the place would be 'Prata Wala'.
Although they only have 4 branches in Singapore but it seems
that they are expanding rapidly. (And the branch that I have
shown here would be the branch located on level 1 of 'Tiong Bahru Plaza'.)

Notes:
  • It seems that the branch located at Jurong Point is the only branch that is opened 24/7. The other branches closes at either 10pm or 11pm. :(

Like a Moon?

Let us take a look at the following picture first. Make a guess, what do you think the following image is showing?

Is this a mango cake? No.
Is this a Jelly? No..
Is this a dessert? No...
This is in fact an...

Egg Tart.
As compared with all the common Egg Tarts that you can get from a
pastry shop, this Egg Tart comes in a diamond shape. On top of the
shape, the texture of the egg, which was in the centre of the egg
tart was a combination between both soft and hard. Usually a egg
tart will have a slightly harder texture in the middle, but this
egg tart have a soft texture that was similar to a Portuguese Egg
Tart. Even though the texture was much softer than regular egg tart,
that doesn't mean that the ingredients in the middle will spill out
easily. Not sure how they chef manage to do that but that was amazingly
interesting. Here comes the best part, the amount of egg filling that
was given in the Egg Tart was both generous and delicious.

Besides for the Egg Tart, another speciality of the place would be the Coconut Tart. Besides for the Tarts, another speciality of this place would be the Traditional Chinese Pastry.

So where is it located?

The name of this place would be 'Tong Heng Confectionery'(東興). The main branch is located along South Bridge Road which was also a 5 minutes walk away from Maxwell Food Centre. They also have a branch in Jurong Point Shopping Centre if I'm not mistaken.

This would be one of the decorations of the place. Pretty interesting right?
Finding the Gods of Blessings, Prosperity and Longevity
or more commonly known as 福禄寿 at a place like this.
