Chicken Rice Penyet

Ayam Penyet, is pretty much similar to a plate of Chinese Chicken Rice, but prepared in an Indonesian style. Therefore, the main topic today will be 'Ayam Penyet'. :)

Here comes 'Chicken Rice Penyet'.
I love the rice. The type of rice that they are using is pretty much
similar to the rice that you are getting in a plate of Chicken Rice.
The fragrance coming out from the rice is much much better than normal
white rice. (I got to admit that I'm not a rice guy. I like Noodles
more than rice.:P) Besides for the fragrance rice, the part that you
can add unlimited portion of the crispy bits would be a big plus. :D
Although the taste of the chicken is pretty normal but looking at the
portion that you are getting, and the non spicy chilli that blends
pretty well with it, I think that this isn't such a bad meal after all. :D
(In fact, I think that the portion of rice that I'm getting isn't
sufficient enough to go with the chicken. Hence I ended up finishing
the chicken without getting any help from the rice... =="")

Where to get this plate of 'Chicken Rice Penyet'?

The name of the food stall will be 'Aspirasi Food Stall'.
It is located in 'Seah Im Food Centre', which is beside 'Harbourfront Interchange.'

GF in University.... Lol

Nope, not referring to a Girl Friend or something like that. 'GF' can also be used to represent 'Good Food'. There are quite a few good eating places in one of the local University, NUS and I'm going to blog about one of them today.

'Smoked Duck Set Meal'
It seems that I'm dying for Smoked Duck over the past few days.
Therefore, once I saw this item on their menu, I decided to give
it a try on my 2nd visit.

What's so special?
For every set meal that you order, you will be given a plate of
rice and a cup on top of the main dish that you have ordered.
The drinks are refillable and you are given a choice to either
go with the hot or cold drinks. As for the rice, you can choose
to have it with or without a layer of Curry over it. Chilli wise,
there are basically 2 different types of chilli to choose from.
The 1st type would be the Indonesian chilli that goes pretty well
with the usual Indonesian dish like, Ayam Penyet, Ayam Panggang,
etc... The 2nd type would be much more similar to the Chinese
chilli paste that you are getting in a restaurant.
Note: Both types of chilli are pretty spicy... Beware~~~)

So what's so great about this dish?
Nothing much I can say about this dish. Basically, you are getting
high quality smoked duck at an affordable price. Although each
slice of Smoked Duck is slightly a bit too thin, but it still
comes with the chewy taste. :D Too bad they don't have the dark
coloured sauce that blends with the duck meat wonderfully. :P
(There's a old saying, one will never be satisfied with the
things that he has... like me and the food that I'm getting...:P)

So where can you find this delicacy?

The name of the stall would be 'Indonesian Express' and it seems
that you can find some of the branches within the school campus of
NUS, NTU and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Yo can find out more about the
stall on their Facebook Page listed below.
By the way, the stall shown in the above, would be one of the branch
located at 'The Deck', NUS Facuty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Note:
  • They are opened on Weekdays from 10am - 7.30pm only.
  • Too bad they are not open on weekends ==.

Hard to choose between Chicken, Mutton or Pork, how about...

Even had the problem of making the decision of thinking what sort of meat you want to have for lunch or dinner? I know that I always had such a problem especially when I always have the problem of having a big appetite. Hence I am going to satisfy your greed with not 3 but 1 dish.

Introducing....

Satay. When it comes to Satay, you wouldn't have the problem
of making a decision between Chicken, Mutton or Pork.
This is because you can always choose all 3 kinds of meat at one go.

But how do you appreciate satay? You can either eat a stick of Satay
either by dipping it into the peanut sauce and take a bite from the
satay stick or take a bite from the satay stick directly.
(This would depends on your own preferences. :D)
After finishing a stick or two, you can start digging into the
cucumber or the rice that comes with a plate of Satay.
Same theory applies to the cucumber and rice, you can choose to
dip it into the sauce first or take a bite directly.

This would be one of the Satay stall that I highly recommend.
It's located inside Clementi Market and Food Centre.
I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't get the Mutton sticks for dinner. :(
Although I couldn't get the Mutton sticks, the Chicken and Pork sticks
turn out to be pretty delicious. The texture of the meat were cooked just right.
It isn't too burnt or too raw. This reminds me of the days waiting for the
Satay man that will be pushing a small trolley around the neighbourhood
of Tiong Bahru almost every single day selling delicious Satays. Another +1
for this store for selling raw Satay sticks so that you can prepare it
at your own pace. But, since you are already in the queue, you might as well
just have the Satays here or buy a few packets of cooked Satays home. :P

  near Clementi MRT station

RIA or AIR

Yes, you are not mistaken, there isn't a typo mistake in the title. The title is really 'RIA' or 'AIR'. Why 'RIA'? This is the actually the name of the restaurant, which is 'Ayam Penyet RIA'. As for 'AIR', it's a short form for ' Authentic Indonesian Restaurant'. This is an Indonesian Restaurant with the name of 'Ayam Penyet RIA' located in Lucky Plaza, along Orchard Road.

Here are the photos taken that day.
This is how the restaurant looks like from the outside.

Boneless Chicken Ayam Penyet

Chicken Ayam Penyet

Es Kacang Hijau - Ice Kacang with Green Beans
Too bad this isn't made with Red Beans else I will become a super regular customer.:D

Es Cendol - Ice Chendol
The amount of grass jelly given in each cup of Es Cendol seems to be a lot.

Although the Chilli were not as spicy as the Ayam Penyet store located in SGH, the overall experience dining at the store was pretty good. Especially when they had a large variety of Penyets to choose from. :D
