The Wall of Crab

Over the past few weeks, I have met up with a few friends from overseas or friends friends from overseas and the same old question will pop up every single time. 'What would you recommend us to eat in Singapore?' Hmm... come to think of it, there's in fact quite a few types of delicious dishes that I can think of. It kind be cheap stuff like 'Laksa', 'Satay Bee Hoon', etc... And it can also be seafoods like...

'Chilli Crab'
I not sure if anyone can resist this dish, but I know I cannot.
Whenever I think of 'Crab', as for myself, the first ideal style
of cooking it would be in the form of a 'Chilli Crab'. :D
Especially when the 'Crab' doesn't ended up to be too spicy and
pretty sweet. And if you are lucky enough, you will be ended up
with a very big pool of gravy made out of eggs, tomato sauce,
chilli sauce, etc... We were pretty lucky. The 'Chilli Crab' that
we have ordered that day comes with a lot of gravy. Besides for
the gravy, the 'Chilli Crab' also comes with crab roe.
(Though crab roe are high in cholesterol, but who cares.
I 'Live to Eat' not 'Eat to Live'.)
On top of the above, the crab meat are pretty sweet and heavenly.

But what can you do to the gravy?

'Fried Mantou', or 'Fried Buns'
You can either place an order for a bowl of rice and cover it
with the 'Chilli Crab' gravy, or you can order a plate of
'Fried Mantou' and dipped it inside the gravy before eating it.
(I wanted to order a bowl of white rice too, but since my hands
are going to get dirty ripping up the crabs, I might as well
go with the 'Fried Mantou'.) The 'Fried Mantou' of this place,
are pretty nice. It's golden brown in colour and it's neither too
hard nor too soft, which is perfect. :D

And here comes...

'Creamy Butter Crab'
Although the crab is soaked in 'Creamy Butter Sauce', but one
wouldn't be getting sick of it so easily. This crab also comes
with crab roe, but in terms of taste, I find the 'Chilli Crab'
to be much more superior. Though some of us prefer the 'Creamy
Butter Crab' much more. :P

'Crab Bee Hoon'
I'm not really sure how are they preparing the creamy soup, but
the taste of the soup are unforgettable. The taste of the soup
is filled with the taste and aroma of a crab. Just the soup alone
is heavenly enough. The 'Bee Hoon' are pretty normal but once
you have it with the heavenly soup, things have completely changed.
(By the way, not sure if we were pretty lucky that day or what.
All the crabs comes with crab roe, which is pretty nice. :D)
Though the crab isn't as good as the 'Chilli Crab' and the
'Creamy Butter Crab', but it's still pretty sweet and delicious.

'Stir Fry Sweet Potatoes Leaves'
The taste is pretty normal and I think that it's a
waste ordering a plate of vegetables where the crabs are pretty
satisfying already. (I think just by looking at the amount of gravy
that was given in the 'Chilli Crab', I think I need to place an
order for at least 3 or 4 bowls of rice to finish it up... =="")

This would be the photo of the dinner for the 5 of us that day.

And this is the looks of it after 2 hours of ripping, cracking,
breaking, etc... We have emptied all the plates, except for the
gravy of the 'Chilli Crab' and the 'Creamy Butter Crab'.

So where can you try these crab dishes?

The name of this restaurant would be 'Mellben Seafood'.
It's located near 'Ang Mo Kio' Hub. You can either take a bus
(Bus 166 or Bus 169)(Ard. 10 minutes) from the interchange
or walk to the restaurant directly(Ard. 15 minutes).

If you want to have your dinner at 'Mellben', I would strongly
encourage you to visit them at 5pm in the afternoon to avoid
crazily long waiting time. Especially when you wouldn't know
what are the chances that the customers standing in front of
you, will be having a very very long dinner.

So what's the link with 'The Wall of Crab'?

I guess this photo should more or less explain everything. :P
