Maximum number of Soups...

When one has the hunger for a bowl of Chinese Soup, where would be the best place to go? Well if you ask a hundred person the same question, you might ended up getting a hundred different answers. However, what I'm introducing today has something to do with a bowl of soup... :D

'Herbal Turtle Soup Meal'
Not sure how the bowl of soup will ended up to be, but usually I will order a bowl of
rice to goes with the bowl of soup. I still miss the good old days of soaking the bowl
of rice in the tasty soup. :D

Hmm... pretty hard to see what's inside. Let me scoop out some of the ingredients...

Just by taking a look at the ingredients that I'm scooping out of the bowl, frankly
speaking, I have difficulty figuring which is which. But one thing that I can easily
identify would be the fact that there's a good mixture of different types of turtle
meat been added into the bowl of soup. There's the gelatinous bits, the meaty stuff
and a bit of boney stuff.

Soup wise, I love the thick herbal taste that comes in every single scoop. Even
though it's a sunny day, but the tasty sensation that just get better and better
as I dig towards the bottom of the bowl. Though it's a bit bitter but there's a
nice sweet taste hidden inside the bowl of soup too. Too bad it wasn't a rainy day,
else I would have...

So where can you give this bowl of soup a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Very Lucky Turtle Soup'(狀幸運山瑞).
It's located inside 'Berseh Food Centre'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Thursdays - Tuesdays: 11:30 - 10:30
    (Closed on Wednesdays)
  • Besides for 'Turtle' soup, there's 'Duck' soup, 'Black Chicken' soup, etc... Not too bad for a stall.

2 Laksa...

What can you buy with merely S$2 nowadays? What if I told you that you can get yourself a delicious bowl of 'Laksa' at the price of 2(?) would you dare to give it a good try?

'Laksa'
Pretty much similar to the infamous 'Katong Laksa' that expects the customer
to wipe out the whole bowl of 'Laksa' using a spoon, no chopsticks will be
provided over here too and you will only be getting a spoon too. Though I
wouldn't say that this is a very big bowl of 'Laksa' but it has all the
necessary factors that forms a good bowl of 'Laksa'. The bowl of 'Rice
Noodles' topped with yummy ingredients like 'sliced fish cake', 'cockles',
beansprouts, 'Sambal Chilli', all surrounded in the tasty and sweet pool
of 'Laksa' gravy and garnished with Vietnamese coriander, or more commonly
known as 'Laksa Leaf'. Believe me or not, but in this small little bowl of
'Laksa' there's actually quite a handful of ingredients and even though it
wasn't too spicy, but the sweet and spicy taste can easily satisfy the
needs of a typical Singaporean.

So where can you give this affordable bowl of 'Laksa' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Sungei Road Laksa'.
It has occupied one of the corners of the coffee shop, 'Jin Shui Kopitiam'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Thursdays - Tuesdays: 09:30 - 17:30
    (Closed on Wednesdays)
  • The queue for a bowl of 'Laksa' over here can be unexpectedly long. I was queuing up for like 20 minutes...
  • One key highlight of the stall would be the fact that they are cooking the 'Laksa' gravy using a big metal cauldron, which is placed on top of a charcoal fire, which is a pretty rare sight nowadays.
  • Sadly, before I have the chance to publish this post, they have decided to increase the price already. Therefore, there isn't a S$2 Laksa anymore. :(

Thai Wanton Noodles !?!

This is a very VEry VERY big world. Even though they have the same name, but a dish prepared and sold in one end of the globe might ended up to be very different on the other end. And this has something to do with this post.

'Thai Wanton Mee'
Setting the chilli powder and sliced chillies aside, this looks pretty much like
the usual 'Wanton Noodles' that one can get in Singapore, except for the part
that the 'Wanton' are missing. Anyway though the springy and chewy Noodles are a
big (+), but I am actually quite disappointed with the overall taste of the Noodles.
Marked with the word 'Thai', I was expecting a sour and spicy sensation, but it's
simply not there. However, the slices of pork reminds me of the nice Japanese
'Char Siew'(Barbecue Pork), these slices of meat ain't too dry and at the same time
it still have the nice chewy sensation. Maybe I really have to go for the 'Spicy'
version to get what I desire? But wait, the 'Wanton' are still missing...

In fact, the 'Wanton' are served in a separate bowl of soup. The taste of the bowl
of soup is slightly a bit too bland for me. And there's nothing special about the
'Wanton', I wonder if the 'Fried Wanton' would be any better than those that are
served in a bowl of soup...

Here's the 'Thai Wanton Mee' set that I had for dinner that day. Maybe I should give
the 'Spicy Thai Wanton Mee' a good try one of these days...

So where can you give the 'Wanton Noodles' a try?
The name of this place would be 'BaaMee Bangkok'.
It's located along 'Syed Alwi Road', which is also located near 'Mustafa'.

  • Daily: 11:00 - 21:00

Besides the common stuff

Besides for the convenience stores and fast food restaurants, there are actually quite a number of 24/7 dining places located in Singapore. And on top of that, it can be places that prepares affordable or expensive delicious dishes, air conditional or non air conditional, eventually there's a choice for everyone at any time of the day. And here's one of them

'Fishball Noodles'
For a start, I think we can move to the bowl of Noodles directly. The taste of the
bowl of soup that comes with the bowl of Noodles is a bit too bland for me. However...

.
to a certain extent, the amount of ingredients that was given were far more greater
in portion than the lump of Noodles. Besides for vegetables like 'bean sprouts',
a bit of 'lettuce', there's also a good variation of seafood ingredients like
'fishballs', slices of 'fish cake', meaty ingredients like 'meatball' and 'minced
meat' and not forgetting the delicious mushrooms.

Though the colors of the bowl of Noodles might ended up to be a bit too dull in
color, but despite of the small portion of Noodles, the overall dining sensation
of the bowl of noodles is actually quite pleasing. After mixing the bowl of
springy Noodles with the ingredients and the sauce, every single bite comes with
a nice chewy sensation and the nice taste of chilli. However, in terms of spicy,
the flavorful chilli might want to look at different means in improving the spice
level of the bowl of 'Fish Ball Noodles'

So where can you give this bowl of Noodles a good try?
The name of this 'stall' would be 'Da Lian Traditional Noodles/传统大连面家'.
It's located along 'Syed Alwi Road', which is also located near 'Mustafa'.

Opening Hours:
  • It's 24/7.

It's not just about the main...

Are you into French Fries and the portion that you are getting just isn't big enough to satisfy your needs? Then you should give this place a try...

'Salad'
Started off with some greenly vegetables. A bit too plain for me. Would be
much much more tasty if they can provide some seasoning sauce.

'Spicy Buffalo Chicken Burger Set Meal'
As you place an order for a main course, you will be entitled to a plate of
salad and unlimited portions of French Fries. Frankly speaking, I love the
French Fries over here. Sounds a bit strange, but I would only go for French
Fries that comes with no salt. I'm getting that over here too and on top of
that, it seems that they would only start preparing the French Fries when a
customer places an order for it. Therefore the saltless, crunchy sticks are
simply far too amazing and delicious. Sadly speaking, they only have chilli
sauce and mayonnaise to go with the Fries but if they have provided Tartar
sauce, I might have gone ahead and place an order for my 3rd or 4th
helping of French Fries. :D

One of the signatures dishes over here would be the burgers. The moment I
stepped into this restaurant, the waitresses were asking, are you here for
the burgers? And more than 70 percent of the orders that night were mostly
burgers. Though it's not the biggest in Singapore, but the portion of this
is far more bigger than than one of my favorite fast food joint in
Singapore. Not only it's big, the thickness of the burger is pretty
amazing too. And here comes the best part. There's an outburst of juicy
meaty goodness in every single bite. Though I'm not getting the spicy
touch but the mix of chewy and crunchy ingredients just simply makes this
irresistibly yummy and satisfying. :D

So where can you give all these yummy stuff a try?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Suprette'.
It's located on level 1 of 'Kam Leng Hotel'.

This is a photo of 'Kam Leng Hotel'.
Just in case you are passing by this place almost every single day and you
don't know that this is the hotel that has the amazing restaurant.

Shark eats Pig Trotter Jelly?

Let's face it, eventually we humans were the greediest group of living things that have ever existed. Even if your favourite dish was served for lunch and dinner everyday, you will eventually get sick of it and you will start to keep an lookout for new/possible good alternatives. Therefore...

'Shark Meat'(白牙沙鱼)
Why go for the expensive 'Shark Fin' when you can have 'Shark Meat'
at a affordable price over here? For a start, the 'Shark Meat' isn't
fried or deep fried. I saw the stall owner boiling a large portion
of 'Shark Meat' at one go and he only boil the 'Shark Meat' only a
short moment before scooping up all the 'Shark Meat' into a tray. This
makes it pretty healthy. On top of that, the portion of 'Shark Meat'
that was given were pretty generous too. Taste wise, the 'Shark Meat'
are pretty fresh, tender and the meat are much more firm than the
fish slices that you are getting in your regular bowl of 'Sliced fish
Soup'. In fact, this seems to be pretty rare delicacy that you can
find in a regular food centre or hawker centre, therefore please give
this a try if you have the time. :D

'Pig Trotter Jelly'(猪脚冻)
According to all the articles that were available on the internet,
the process of making this dish seems to be crazily tedious. For a
start, the stall owner has to spend a bit of time removing all the
fats and bones from the pig trotter before marinating it using his
secret formula and stew for 10 long hours to bring out the gelatin
from the pig trotter. After the long stewing process, the mixture
will have to be refrigerated for a very long period of time, and
once it have a jelly like texture, it's ready to be served.
The texture of the dish is pretty interesting. For a start, the
dish is pretty chewy, which is caused by the meat and the gelatin
of the meat itself. By having it with the chilli sauce or the
special blend of sauce that they are offering, you are basically
tasting and trying something new and special. Trust me, just the
texture of the dish itself, it's pretty interesting already. Taste
wise, if you are into the slices of cold pork in a Chinese feast,
this will definitely be something that you must give it a go.

So where can you give all these delicacies a try?
The name of this stall would be
'Lao Liang Pig Trotter Jelly Shark Meat'(老兩猪脚冻白牙沙鱼).
It's located on level 2 of 'Berseh Food Centre',
which is located along 'Jalan Besar Road'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    11am - 2pm Daily

  • If you really want to give everything over here a good try, trust my words and get there by 12noon. Otherwise, you might ended up making a wasted trip here.

Playing with Chicken Balls

I was browsing around the web keeping an lookout for either interesting dining places or places that serve delicious food. I managed to come across this.

'Chicken Rice with Dark Soy Sauce'
The chicken rice set comes with a plate of chicken, 2 rice ball that comes
with a strong fragrance of garlic and ginger, which made it indifferent from
all the other chicken rice stall out there. And also comes with a bowl of
dark-coloured soup. Although the soup comes with a herbal taste, but I would
rather go for the turtle soup that was located nearby. :P

Well, if you are really into chicken rice and you would like to give all
the different types of chicken rice in Singapore a try, you should
definitely give the chicken rice over here a try. The meat of the boneless
chicken is pretty tender, but the due to the 'dark soy sauce', the taste
of the chicken ended up to be pretty salty. Well, the overall taste of the
chicken rice over here is pretty interesting and same goes for the looks. :D

So where can you give the interesting chicken rice a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Hainan Chicken Rice ball'(海南雞飯粒).
It's located in 'Boon Hwa Food Centre' located along 'Jalan Besar Road'.

A Seafood Cake...

As mentioned in my previous posts, I have been going around giving all the good food that I haven't been eating frequently a good try. And I don't really want to waste my time making a trip down to 'Maxwell Food Centre' with the 'Oyster Cake' stall closed, therefore I decided to give this place a try...

'Oyster Cake'(蚝餅)
The stall owner over here is making and preparing 2 different types of 'Oyster Cake'.
There's the normal type and a special type with additional ingredients. Basically on
my 1st attempt, I have gone for the special 'Oyster Cake' and it was stuffed with 2
prawns, 2 oysters, peanuts, minced meat, vegetables and ikan bilis. And the shape of
the final product was similar to the shape of a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object).

First of all, the texture of the 'Oyster Cake' isn't too oily. As and when you take
a bite off the 'Oyster Cake', you will definitely be getting the taste of a mixture
of 2 or more ingredients. The elderly stall owner have been using fresh seafood
ingredients in the slow and tedious process of making each and every piece of
'Oyster Cake', which probably explains the delicious taste and the large customer base.
The nice mixture of all the ingredients simply make it even much more irresistible.
Basically, I have also tried the normal 'Oyster Cake', but it's not even half as
satisfying as the special 'Oyster Cake'.

Random shot of the stall and the 'Oyster Cake'.
Basically, one particular reason why 'Oyster Cake' is a delicacy might probably
be due to the fact that it's super duper rare. There's probably only 1 out of 1000++
stalls out there, that still continues to prepare and sell delicious 'Oyster Cake'.

The name of this stall would be 'Poh Hwa Fu Zhou Oyster Cake'(寳華福州蚝餅).
It's located in one of the coffee shop which is located near 'Mustafa Centre'.

    10:30am - 6pm Daily

Eating the Wild Animals...

It seems that ever since my last trip to Japan earlier this year, I haven't been going around Singapore giving all the local delicacies a good try. Therefore since I have the time the other day, I decided to have some soup for lunch. Although it's merely soup, but it can be pretty interesting too.

'Turtle Soup' with rice
For a start, the soup itself comes with a pretty strong herbal taste and I'm
pretty impress with the amount of work that is required in preparing this soup.
The taste of the soup is pretty thick and strong. Despite of the size of the
bowl, it have definitely warm me up, which makes this a pretty good alternative
when it is a crazily cold day. However, if you try to have this on a pretty hot
day, you might be getting unnecessary nose bleed. (If the stall owner has given
a bigger portion of soup that day, I think that I might be nose bleed non-stop.)

As for the turtle meat itself, there's a mixture of turtle meat and turtle skin.
For the turtle skin, the texture are pretty much similar to a jelly but it's
slightly a bit more harder and at the same time much more chewy too. As for the
meat itself, it's pretty much similar to a herbal chicken, however, the chewy
touch of the meat itself reminds me of pork.

Anyway, looks like I have found myself a pretty good alternative for a crazily
cold day. (:D)

Menu of the stall.
Besides for the Turtle Soup, this stall also prepares crocodile soup,
chicken soup, duck soup, frog soup, pork ribs soup, etc...

The name of this stall would be 'Fu He Turtle Soup'(福和山瑞).
It's located on level 2 of 'Berseh Food Centre',
which is located along 'Jalan Besar Road'.

  • Operating Hours:
    11am - 9pm Daily

Time to turn on the heat...

It was a raining day. Luckily, I had my umbrella with me but where should I go for dinner? Since its a raining day, a hot or spicy food would be nice...

Therefore the first option that come popping through my mind would be...

Mutton Soup.

Besides for the strong mutton taste, there's also a very nice
Chinese herbs aroma too. At that was the same aroma that attracts
me to this stall. What I love most about this mutton soup would be
the fact that they are adding a substantial amount of herbals and
that have completely remove the strong odour of mutton meat.
But, once you started taking a spoonful of mutton soup, you will be
addicted to the soup and once you start you can only stop after
finishing the whole bowl of mutton soup.

Okay, although what I was given were mutton meat with bones, but
it isn't a very difficult task in finishing/ripping all the flesh
off the meat. :D

Unlike some other stalls that will charge you additional S$1 or
S$2 for adding another bowl of soup, over here you can ask for
another bowl of mutton soup for free..
(Note: Each bowl of mutton soup is entitled to a free top up only.
I'm not sure if you can top up for the second or third time and how
much each top up will cost you.)

So where is this store located?

The name of this stall would be 'Kong Kee Mutton Soup' and it
is located near Mustafa Shopping centre.

Note:
  • Stall is closed on Sundays.
  • Operating hours: 11 am - 10pm

Dim Sum is meant for Supper

Probably, during different parts of the day, one would try eating different kinds of food. As for me, eating Dim Sum in the middle of the night was quite an interesting experience. Usually, Dim Sum were the kind of food that you would eat for Breakfast but eating it for supper was a completely different experience for me. If you had been following the blogs that I had writting, you will know how frequent I had been visiting Mustafa Centre. Usually, I will have my dinner in one of the Indian restaurants in Little India, follow up with a visit to Mustafa Centre and before going home, I will stop at the following restaurant for a quick bite of Dim Sum.

The following were one of the photos that I had taken at Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant.

Click here for the website of Swee Choon Dim Sum Restaurant.

Note:
  • Swee Choon Restaurant is open from 6pm onwards to the following morning 10am
  • Swee Choon Restaurant is closed on every Tuesday
