Maybe the owner's surname is Lim?

The weather is a bit too hot for you to handle? How about a dessert or two to beat the heat?

'Beancurd'
Though they are selling the sweet and smooth beancurd over here, but that isn't the
most interesting point about the dessert over here.

'Grass Jelly with Gingko Nuts'
Dessert wise, they are only selling a few different types. But on top of the basic
deliverable, you can top up several other types of ingredients to it. There's stuff
like 'gingko nuts', 'ginger', 'attap seeds', etc... Though I loved the bitter taste
'Grass Jelly', but I don't mind adding a few other types of ingredients and add an
additional taste to it.

So where can you give the desserts over here a good try?
The name of this stall would be "Uncle Lim's Beverages".
This is located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.

Hidden away but affordable....

Some stalls that are hidden away in a hawker centre isn't that bad too. For example, there's mains like these...

'Lor Mee'
This is pretty affordable and though it might look pretty ordinary, but it wasn't
that bad. This comes with a good spread of ingredients like 'Fish Cake', 'Ngoh Hiong',
'braised meat' and 'fried flour bits'. On top of that, the gravy isn't that bad too.
Not only it isn't watery, it has a thick and gluey texture, which comes with a pretty
tasty texture too. Though it also has the option of having 2 different types of chilli
but both of them isn't that spicy, which isn't going to be of much interest to fiery
food lovers.

So where can you give the dish a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Soon Heng Lor Mee'.

Playing with Fishes...

Is it because of the type of fish that they have chosen over here? Or is it due to their culinary skills that might be super amazing? It's either this or that but either ways, the fish soup over here are pretty amazing.

'Batang Fish Soup'
Looking from afar, this already looks pretty appealing. For a start,
I'm really getting lots of sliced fish in that big bowl of soup.

As I pull the bowl closer, that's really quite a number of sliced
fish. I started popping one after another inside my mouth. Hmm, these
big, fat and firm slices of fish are pretty sweet. Even though it took
me a bit of time to wipe out all the fish slices but what amaze me the
most would be the texture of the fish slices still remain to be pretty
firm and delicious all the way down. On top of that, the soup base is
pretty sweet and tasty too, which makes this a pretty good lunch.

So where can you give this bowl of soup a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Hai Chew Fish Soup'(海洲魚湯).

Prefer the dumplings...

I spend quite a bit of time looking for new places/stalls a good try and as you can see, most of the post would revolve around Noodles or Noodles like dishes, which is pretty much related to the post today. :)

'Wanton + Dumplings Noodles'
When I was queuing outside this stall, I was wondering what should
I order, after spending a bit of time debating in my mind, I have
pretty much decided what I'm going to do. I decided to go for a plate
of 'Wanton Noodles', topped with an extra portion of 'Dumplings'.

To some extent, I think that they can simply try selling these plates
of Noodles without the 'wantons'. For a start, the thin Noodles are
pretty springy and chewy. On top of that, soaked inside the sweet and
dark sauce makes it even better. Best of all, the generous portion
of sliced 'Barbecued Pork', vegetables and sliced green chillies are
there to enhance the overall taste of the Noodles even much more further.

The 'wantons' over here are far too disappointing. The ingredients of
the plate of Noodles are even far more better than the 'wantons'. Not
only it's kinda small, but probably it's the 'wanton' skin that are a
bit too thick. Therefore they couldn't wrap a larger lump of mixed
ingredients inside the skin. As compared to the dumplings, the 'wantons'
look kinda dull.

The dumplings on the other hand are far more interesting. Besides for
the lump of ingredients that go into the bigger skin, they have also
added the crunchy prawns inside. Though the bowl of soup is pretty
boring, but the delicious and crunchy dumplings just make the bowl of
soup too insignificant to be noticed.

So where can you give the bowl of Noodles a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Shun Xing'(順興).
It's located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.

The laughing Prawn...

Nope, I have not seen a laughing prawn before, but that's part of the name of this stall. Since it's a laughing prawn, what it's offering over here ought to have something to do with Prawns.

'Big Prawn Pork Ribs Noodles'(Dry)
Though the bowl of soup which comes with the bowl of Noodles isn't
stunning enough, but it has this sweet taste, which makes it pretty
appealing. As for the bowl of Noodles...

Yes, I do agreed that they have thrown in lots of ingredients and
the mix of sauces for this bowl of chewy Noodles is pretty tasty
and amazingly good, but the 'Prawns' are kinda disappointing. Even
though the taste is acceptable but the soft texture is kinda
disappointing. But, the Pork Ribs are worth a big (+). Not only
it's juicy and sweet, I could rip all the tasty meat off the bones
effortlessly. Next time round, I will definitely be going for the
delicious 'Pork Ribs' only. :P

So where can you give the Noodles a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Ha Ha Big Prawn Noodle'(哈哈大蝦麺).
This is located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.

Chinese small bites for Breakfast...

Sometimes if I managed to get out of bed pretty early, I would go around looking for interesting good bites, before I make my way to the office. And the other day, I decided to go for these small bites...

'Kueh Du Du'
Seems that there are quite a few stalls out there that offers a bigger
'Kueh Du Du', as compared with the original size. Though this is big
but it's not the biggest that I have come across in Singapore.

But I'm pretty impressed that despite of the long travelling time, the
texture of the 'Kueh Du Du' didn't turn into a rock. On top of that
the stall owner really push the layer of flour to the limits and the
ingredients that are thrown inside are pretty generous and yummy too.

I personally loved the sweet taste of the not so damp 'Coconut' fillings
and not to forget about the crunchy diced peanuts too. Which makes me
wonder what are we getting, when we mix both types of ingredients into one
'Kueh Du Du'. When I took a bite off the 'Kueh Du Du', there's an immediate
outburst of the nice ingredients, which deserves a (+).

So where can you give these small bites a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Jia Xiang Du Du Kueh'(佳香嘟嘟娘惹糕).

Not just fishballs only...

Ever since I started exploring the Beo Crescent Area, it makes me wonder what are the nice delicacies that one can find in that area. Therefore, I started spending a bit more time exploring that area and...

'Fishball Noodles'
Usually, I will start giving the local delights a try first and this time
round I have decided to give one of my favourite dishes a try first. :D

For a start, despite of the fact that I have requested for additional
dumplings to be added, I'm getting a large and generous variety of
ingredients in the bowl of soup. In contrast to the bowl of soup, the
bowl of 'Kway Teow'(Rice Noodle) looks kinda small.

By the way, the overall taste of the bowl of 'Kway Teow' was kinda weak,
even though they have added sliced chillies, 'Pork Lard', etc... And though
the texture of the 'Kway Teow' is pretty alright but the taste just isn't
attractive enough. Probably they might fare much more better for the
normal type of Noodles and not for the 'Kway Teow'. :|

The fishballs and the meatballs that are given were fantastic. Not
only they are fresh, the texture were amazingly chewy and bouncey too.
Besides for the nice 'balls', there were a few slices of fish cake, a
lump of seaweed and minced meat too. Best of all, the bowl of soup
doesn't taste pepperish nor plain like water. Not only it's tasty,
the nice and delicious taste of the soup just makes one wants to
continue asking for a second or third serving. :P But wait, let's not
forget about the delicious dumplings. While preparing these dumplings,
they have added a nice mix of both vegetables and meat ingredients,
which makes it pretty crunchy and yummy. And even though the dumplings
was served in the bowl of soup, rather than ended up to be soggy, it
still remained to be amazingly good too. :P

So where can you give the bowl of Noodles a nice try?
The name of this stall would be 'Nan Yuan'(南園).
It's located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.

What's the name again?

By having a name, it makes it much more easier for the consumer to remember/recognise the shop. However, there are exception cases too. For a start, there's the following too...

I have pass by this place a few times and it always have this amazing long queue of
customers. Therefore, I decided to give it try for lunch too.

Since this is a Chinese Curry/Economical Rice stall, rather than placing an order
for a plate of rice and numerous dishes, I ended up placing an order for 2 plates
of Curry Rice (with different dishes) and a plate of Pork Chop.

'Rice with Braised Egg and Curry Chicken'
The Braised Egg isn't special enough but I like the way that they are preparing the
'Curry Chicken'. Rather than giving a drumstick or a chicken wing, they have sliced
up the chicken into smaller chunks. It simply makes the process of savouring the
Chicken to be which more easier. Taste wise the tender and chewy chicken is pretty
nice and it will taste even much more better when you have it with the plate of rice.
By the way, not only one should be going for the Curry gravy, you should request for
the Braised gravy(Lor Chap) too. And surprisingly despite of the amount of gravy
added, rather than ended up to be salty, the plate of rice is amazingly flavourful.

'Rice with Cabbages and Meat Ball'
The vegetables aren't too dry and it still have this crunchy touch. As for the
Meat Ball, it seems that I have found another place to savour a good Meat Ball.
The overall taste of the Meat Ball isn't too salty and texture is pretty acceptable
and great. :D

'Pork Chop'
If you are looking for fat, juicy slices of Pork Chop, you will be disappointed.
Over here, they specialise in crispy, thin slices of Pork Chop. Even though you
can have it with a bit of rice, but I personally find it to be a pretty good snack
or tidbit too. :P The crispy touch just simply makes it irresistible.

So where can you give these dishes a good try?
This place specializing in 'Hainanese Curry Rice' and it doesn't have a name.
Therefore, most people recognise it as the 'Nameless Hainanese Curry Rice'.
It's located in one of the coffee shops beneath 'Blk 40 Beo Crescent',
which is opposite 'Beo Crescent Market And Food Centre'.

  • Operating Hours:
    06:30 - 14:00 Daily
    (Closed on Wednesdays)
  • Trust me, though it might be opened till 2 or 3pm in the afternoon, but most of the time most of the delicious dishes are gone before 2pm.

Let the noodles lead the way...

While roaming around Singapore, you will be coming across all sorts of Noodle dishes. It can be affordable dishes like 'Fishball Noodles', everyone's favourite 'Laksa', the infamous Japanese 'Ramen', etc... But as for today, I will be introducing something that used to be pretty common in the early days of Singapore but ended up to be pretty rare in the modern Singapore. Introducing...

'Rickshaw Noodles'(拉车面)
This used to be an affordable delicacy for the rickshaw 'coolies'(pullers) back then.
At a relatively low price, they are getting a bowl of noodles that contains a
flavourful bowl of thick soup and ingredients like vegetables, fried garlic, shallots
and anchovies.

It fact, the taste of this simple bowl of Noodles kinda reminds me of the
Noodles that my mum and my grandmom used to be preparing and making ever since I
was a kid. The soup over here is pretty flavourful but since they are preparing a big
pot of Noodles at one go, therefore the texture of the Noodles are a bit soggy. But
this is the way I like it back then. As for the thick soup, though it's slightly a bit
salty but it's pretty sweet too. However, a big drawback about the Noodles over here
would be the fact that it doesn't come with the various type of fanciful ingredients.
But price wise, it's definitely one of the most affordable and relatively good Noodle
dishes out there. :D By the way, you can request for the extra scoop of chilli to be
added to the bowl of Noodles, but I personally doesn't think that it's boasting the
overall taste of the bowl of Noodles at all.

'Chee Cheong Fun'(Rice Noodle Roll)
Besides for rare delicacy 'Rickshaw Noodles', they are preparing all sorts of good
stuff that are pretty suitable for breakfast. There's economical Noodles, 'Nasi Lemak',
'Yam Cake', etc... Trust me, a good and delicious breakfast can really start your day
off right :D and happy :P. Although the texture of the 'Chee Cheong Fun' aren't silky
smooth, but the taste of it remains to be pretty good and they are pretty generous
with the portion of sauces(sweet sauce and chilli sauce) given.

The name of this stall would be 'Tao Yuan Cooked Food'(桃园熟食).
It's located inside 'Beo Crescent Market and Food Centre'.
