Ice Cream Buffet !?!?!?!?!

These few days the hot and humid weather is simple getting from bad to worst. And I just simply couldn't get rid of the idea of eating scoops of ice cream out of my mind.

'Ice Cream Buffet'
And the search for 'Ice Cream Buffet' begins. They have pop in more than 10
different flavors of ice cream over here and taste wise, there's the common flavors
like 'Strawberry', 'Vanilla', 'Chocolate', they also have special flavors like
'Lychee', 'Coconut', etc... On top of that, the texture of the ice cream varies too,
which makes this far too good for a 'Ice Cream Buffet'.

So where can you give the 'Ice Cream Buffet' a good try?

The name of this place would be 'maple loft cafe'.
It's located inside 'Tanjong Pagar CC'.

Mixing your own drinks and dessert at a affordable price...

I love eating. If eating can be registered as a hobby, I would gladly do so. And if you are a smart eater, you can easily find great places that can not only satisfied your appetite, your taste bud and at the same time it's wallet friendly too. :D

'Spicy Chicken Set'
Ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... they are offering different
types of set meals over here. Since this is the first time, I'm coming here
I decided to go with this set meal.

'Kimchi'
The side dish that comes with this meal would be a bowl of 'Kimchi'. Nicely
marinated, the bowl of 'Kimchi' isn't too spicy and at the same time pretty
tasty. Too bad the portion is kinda small, but as a side dish, it has
definitely served it's purpose and bring up my appetite too.

'Spicy Chicken'
Surrounded with a nice pool of spicy sauce and at the same time covered with
ingredients like Sesame and Spring Onions, the succulent and tasty plate of
chicken is a pretty good deal. With this plate of chicken, one can easily
wipe out 2 or more bowls of rice. (It's just kinda sad that they ain't
offering free flow of rice over here.) However...

'Coffee float'
Though they don't have free flow of rice over here, but they do have free
flow of beverages and ice cream over here. For a start, I was trying out
one of the special menu for coffee floats over here. How should I put it,
though I'm getting both a sweet and a bitter taste, but this just simply
couldn't catch my attention. Though I would really want to give tea float
a try... but definitely not after a unique coffee float.

The set meal over here not only comes with free flow of hot/cold beverages.
It also comes with free flow ice cream too. Besides offering several big
tubs of ice cream of different flavors, they also have a machine that gives
you the normal soft serve ice cream too. Since there isn't a time
restriction, therefore you can really sit here the whole enjoying the free
flow of beverages and ice cream and chill the whole afternoon away. :D

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Just Acia'
It has a few outlets island wide and the above shows the outlet located inside
'Dhoby Ghaut Xchange', which is located inside 'Dhoby Ghaut MRT'.

Unique outlet of 'Astons'

Ever since they have opened their first outlet in the East side of Singapore, the outlets started popping up in different parts of Singapore over the last few years. Therefore, ever since I have knew about this unique outlet of 'Astons', I have decided to give it a try. Hence...

'Fried Fish Dinner Set Meal'
At this outlet, all the main courses will come with 'X' and a
side dish(either 'Baked Potato' or 'French Fries'). I ended up
choosing 'French Fries' since I knew that the 'Baked Potato' of
can be pretty filling. And I would really want to leave lots of
space in my stomach for 'X'.

For a start, I loved the crispy texture of the fish that was
covered in breadcrumbs. With a texture that was so crispy, I was
hoping that the meat doesn't end up to be too hard and stiff too.
Luckily, the chef of 'Astons' didn't fail my expectations and
they have somehow managed to prepare it such that the fish would
have this crispy texture and the meat itself was pretty fresh,
soft and moist. Not only the texture of the fish meat is
relatively good, it can blend in with the Tartar sauce pretty
good too, which deserves a very big (+).

So what exactly is 'X'?
'X' is actually the premium salad buffet that is included as
part of the meal that you have ordered.

Though it's known as a premium salad buffet, but it's much more
fanciful as compared to a salad bar. For a start, they have
prepared more than 4 different types of soups. There's 'onion
soup', 'sweet corn soup', etc... There's a good mix of different
types of soup of a different texture and taste. And they have
also thrown in one of my favorite side dish at 'Astons', which is
the 'Whipped Potato'. You can not only go 1 scope but unlimited
serving of 'Whipped Potato' over here, isn't that a good start? :)
Note: the sauce and the 'Whipped Potato' are separated hence you
can decide on the proportions of the 'Whipped Potato' yourself.

In order to satisfy all the customers, they have also thrown in
fried stuff like 'Potato Wedges', 'Onion Rings', etc... into the
buffet too. And to some, these ain't as important as the crunchy
'Garlic Bread' that comes with a nice taste and aroma of 'Garlic',
that blends in pretty well with the soup too.

They have also provided a good spread for those that couldn't
live without pasta or rice dishes, like me. The sauce of the pasta
is so rich that I was dipping some of the deep fried finger food
inside it too. On top of that, for mushroom lover, the 'Saute
Button Mushroom' is a must try. Not only the mushroom are juicy,
the chewy sensation is a (+) too.

After having more than 5 rounds of soup, I don't really have that
much space left in my stomach for the cold dishes.
However, I still managed to grab a few scoops of the 'Potato Salad',
which is also one of my favorite sides at 'Astons'. They have also
allocated a small corner for cut fruits, which includes stuff like
'Watermelon', 'Pineapple', 'Honeydew', 'Grapes', etc... And that's
not all...

There's always room for desserts. Though it only comes with 1
flavor only, but there's a variety of toppings that you can choose
from. I love to have mine with all the small little crunchy bits.
Besides for the 'Ice Cream', they have also provided free flow of
beverages over here too. Personally speaking, with all the soup
choices and the Ice Cream, I didn't even fell like touching the
beverages at all. :P

So where can you give this unique outlet of 'Astons' a good try?

Atas Ice Cream in Chinatown...

I was walking along the back alley of Chinatown or more specifically, 'South Bridge Road'. And I happen to came upon this ice cream shop. (Little do I know that it's Swiss Ice Cream.)

'2 Scoops of Ice Creams'
Top - 'Crème Brûlée'
A bit too sweet for me. This is simply sweetness overdose.

Bottom - 'Pistachio'
Being a nutty man, this is a (+). I loved the bitter and nutty sensation.

Despite of the number of customers that they are getting each and every day,
the overall texture of the ice cream isn't too solid, in fact it's pretty
creamy and smooth. As I scoop the ice cream and pop it in my mouth, it can
really melt in my mouth without any disturbments. :D

So where can you give the ice cream a good try?
The name of this shop would be 'Mövenpick'.
They have a few hidden outlets spread across the island.

Where Strangers' Reunite....

Rather than ended up giving the usual Chinese desserts a try, we decided to hop on a bus and ended up at this place giving something special a try. :)

Rather than handled us glasses of water and you will be ended up waving
at the waitresses like a crazy mad man, they have also handled us a big
bottle of water, which is a pretty good move. (Well, too bad, no more
crazy mad man role-playing a.k.a cosplay?)

'Buttermilk Waffle with Passionfruit, White Chocolate, Coconut Zest & Vanilla Ice Cream'
Though this doesn't appear to be pretty big and at the same time, slightly
a bit unfriendly to my wallet, but for a waffle, this is pretty good. As
I cut a slice and put it into my mouth, I'm amazed with the crispy texture
that comes with it and as I continue to chew further, the soft and fluffy
interior just make it better and better. Despite of the amount of syrup and
ice cream that was topped onto the waffle, the waffle doesn't turn up to
be soft and soggy pretty fast, which makes it far more superior than the
other competitors out there. In fact, the waffle is so good that to some
extent, I was focusing more on cutting and savouring the waffle than the
ingredients that comes with it. Taste wise, there's a good mixture of 'sweet',
'zesty' and 'bitter' taste. However, there's more of a 'sweet' and 'zesty'
sensation more than the 'bitter' taste. :D But try not to end up like me.
try to have both the waffle and the ingredients together else you might
end up with a lot of ingredients but a small piece of waffle to go with it. :P

So where can you give the delicious waffle a good try?
The name of this cafe would be "Strangers' Reunion".

Nothing to do with the Shoujo Manga...

If you are pretty familiar with infamous Manga(Japanese Comics) Titles, you will easily understand why I have given this post such a title. Anyway, I have given the following a try the other day...

'Houjicha Shiratama Parfait'(Houjicha and Rice Flour Dumplings Parfait)
Though the 'Parfait' idea was originated from the West, but the first time
I have actually given it a try was a few years back in 'Kyoto', 'Japan'.

As for the 'Parfait' over here, for a start the 'Houjicha' syrup that is
poured on top of the 'Parfait' is pretty thick, strong and they have
managed to bring out the rich and smoky taste of the Japanese 'Houjicha'.
The same goes for the 'Houjicha' ice cream that comes with it. In order to
appreciate a 'Parfait' to the maximum, I think that you shouldn't be eating
the ingredients separately. You should try scooping 2 or more types of
ingredients at 1 go. Besides for the 'Houjicha' stuff, ingredients like the
Chewy 'Shiratama'(Rice Flour Dumplings), crispy 'Corn Flakes', Chewy
'Kanten Jelly', etc... were added too. Therefore, there's a nice mixture of
different types of ingredients(in terms of the texture and the taste) that
are brought together and produce this nice and interesting 'Parfait'. Hence,
if you are into 'Hojicha' and ice cream, I think that this would be one of
the better places that offers such a delicious combination. :D

So where can you give the 'Parfait' a good try?

Not A & W but B & W...

Speaking of 'A & W', the first thing that will pop out of your mind would most likely be the infamous 'Root Beer Float'. However, the post today has nothing to do with 'A & W'.One of the main killers of this place would be...

Burgers. And this is...
'Free Range Chicken Burger'
In terms of the height, this is a pretty good deal. Not only there's an interesting
and generous portions of ingredients(a thick 'Chicken Patty', 'grilled Bacon', 'Sunny
Side Egg', mixture of vegetables), the taste of it is pretty good too. Taking a bite
off the burger is exceptionally good, especially when you started chewing off the thick
and meaty patty. Not only it's chewy, the freshly prepared patty is deliciously yummy
and fulfilling too. Frankly speaking, not only it's well prepared, it's...

so juicy that to some extent, the 'burger' seems to be X. (What the hell is 'X'
you can figure that yourself by taking a look at the photo in the above.)

'Sweet Potatoes Fries'
This is one of the reasons why I have decided to give this place a try. This is one
of the places that is preparing and offering 'Sweet Potatoes Fries'. Even though it
doesn't come for free, but I just couldn't resist the 'Sweet Fries'. This delicious
looking orangy sweet 'fries' are far more tastier than the average 'fries'. If you are
not into 'fries', you should give this a go, it will change your opinion about 'fries'.

The fun doesn't end there. Besides for the interesting variety of 'fries' that you
can get over here, you can always top up a bit of cash and go for the 'Tapas Buffet'.
The menu of the 'Tapas Buffet' changes on a daily basis. The other day, they have
this interesting 'Potato Soup'. And it's so sinful and good that it makes you feel
like going for the 2nd or 3rd helping. However, I doubt that an average joe can
outstand 2 helping of the soup + a burger and a portion of 'fries' over here. :P
(I must strongly stress that I'm not your average joe. I do have a big appetite.)

Besides for the soup, they have 'Bean salad', 'Potato salad', 'Bread sticks',
'Takoyaki', 'Chips', 'Papadum', etc... Even though the taste of most of the items
pretty normal but the wide variety of 'Tapas' can accompany you the whole night long. :D

The 'Tapas buffet' also comes with 'fruit slices', slices of 'cakes', 'Ice Cream'
etc... I think one of my favourite item that night would most likely be the 'Pandan'
cake wrap around a layer of 'minty' cream.

So where can you give all these interesting stuff a try?
The name of this place would be 'Burger Vs Wings + Bar'.
It's located on level 11 of 'Orchard Central'.

A.I.O buffet...

In case anyone has been wondering what A.I.O is, it simply means 'All In One'. So what sort of a buffet is a 'All In One' buffet? That will be something that we will be finding out today. :)

Just for the starters alone, one of my friends have already gone all out placing
orders for the different types of 'Cze Char' dishes. Since this is a buffet
dinner, I do agree that we should be giving as many types of dishes a try as
possible. Therefore, I also go ahead placing a few orders for some ala carte
dishes too. :P
Over here, not only they are preparing and serving common 'Cze Char' dishes like
'Sambal Kangkong', 'Pork Fried with Dried Chilli', 'Spring Rolls', 'Ngor Hiang',
etc... But they have also listed down some other unique 'Cze Char' dishes like
'Rojak Chicken', 'Curry Leaf Chicken', 'Bacon Prawn Roll', 'Assam Sotong',
etc... And basically there's a mixture of yummy and normal dishes. As for myself,
I'm not comfortable with the 'Stir Fried Kangkong with Fermented Bean Curd'.
I prefer the normal 'Sambal Kangkong' even much more and the taste of the
'Rajak Chicken' is kinda funky too. :P But dishes like 'Deep Fried Seafood Tofu'
are pretty good. One thing that I have observed would be the generous portion
that they are offering over here. At list, it have proven that each individual
dish is big enough to feed/share among the 4 of us.

This is the main reason why I wanted to give this place a try. Rather than
sharing 1 big pot among a group of people, they are providing each of us a
decent steamboat pot. Therefore it means that the more people you have in a
group, the more types of soup that you can try in one go. Isn't that great?
Basically we ended up trying 4 different types of soup and they are 'Tom Yum',
'Herbal Chicken', 'Fish' and 'Chicken' soup. Being a soup guy, I personally
find the taste of the soup to be a little bit too bland. Though it does manage
to bring out the unique taste of each soup, but it's just simply not strong
enough for my liking.

However, I do find the ingredients that they are offering over here to be
pretty interesting. On top of the normal stuff like 'Slice Beef', 'Slice Fish',
'Golden Mushroom', etc... they also have stuff like 'Fish Noodles', 'Squid Glue',
'Fish Glue', etc... After a bit of struggling, I decided to give the 'Fish
Noodles' a try. (That is the long whitish Noodle that I have shown in the above.)
When the waitress pass us the noodles, it was kinda shocking. Rather than giving
us a plate of 'Noodles', it was more of a bag of 'Fish paste' with a small
opening. The idea behind it works pretty much the same way as the piping bag
that you are using to squeeze all the cream onto your cake. But rather than
squeezing the 'Fish Paste' onto a cake, you have to squeeze it into the pot.
The end product is delicious. The 'Noodles' doesn't have the strange 'fishy'
smell and it's pretty chewy too. Not too bad for a 'Fishy Noodles'. :P

By the way, remember to set some empty space in your stomach for...

'Ice Cream'
They are offering 3 different ice cream flavours over here and it's mainly,
'Vanilla', 'Strawberry' and 'Chocolate'. But that's not all...

'Durian Oozee'
No wonder they have limited 1 order of the 'Durian Oozee' per customer.
This is fantastically delicious. The idea behind this dessert is pretty
much similar to a normal 'Goreng Pisang'. However, the crispy crust is
unbeatable and the strong 'Durian' filling is pretty smooth too. :P
(To avoid any disappointment, do take note that the 'Durian Oozee' are
available on Fridays, Weekends, Eve & on Public Holidays only.)

'Chocolate Fondue'
I think that we have ended up trying all the different types of dessert
that was listed on their menu that night. As for this dessert, I think that
the waitresses over here really know how to tempt the customers. Rather
than providing us with a pot of hot chocolate, they have provided us a
steamboat pot with a lump of chocolate in the middle of the pot instead.
And we are suppose wait for the chocolate to melt slowly... =.="""
Just the thought of it makes me hungry again...

So where can you give the 'A.I.O' buffet a try?
The name of this place would be 'The Rajah Inn'.
It's located on level 2 of 'Tiong Bahru Plaza'.
