Not just Honey...

I still can remember the length of the queue when they have opened the first outlet in Singapore. The queue outside the first outlet just doesn't seems to go away...

'Pandan Gula Melaka'
This reminds me of the Mr. Softee that one can get from a 7-Eleven in the
early days. However, this has a far more creamier and smooth taste.

For a start, the soft serve is in pale green, which reminds me more of the
lime-green color more than the shades of 'Pandan', though the taste do comes
with the taste of 'Pandan'. Besides for the tube of 'Melaka' syrup that is
sticking out of the soft serve, there's interesting ingredients like 'Crunchy
Puffed Rice', 'Attap Chee Seeds'(Palm Tree Seeds) and 'Coconut Shavings' that
goes around it. As I mixed all the ingredients together, there's a nice mix
of milky and crunchy sensation. On top of that, despite of the amount of
'Melaka' syrup that goes around it, the amount of sweetness that I'm getting
is still pretty acceptable. :P

'Cereal Milk'
The name of this has pretty much given one a rough idea of the ingredients
that might be used in this soft server. And that would be 'Cereal'. Almost
every single bite comes with the nice crunchy bits of cornflakes, which
kinda reminds me of the nice 'Parfait' that I have tasted in Japan. :D

So where can you give these 'Soft Serve' a good try?

The name of this place would be 'Honey Creme'.
They currently have a few outlets in Singapore and this is their first
outlet in Singapore, which is located on level 1 of '313 Somerset'.

Mixing your own drinks and dessert at a affordable price...

I love eating. If eating can be registered as a hobby, I would gladly do so. And if you are a smart eater, you can easily find great places that can not only satisfied your appetite, your taste bud and at the same time it's wallet friendly too. :D

'Spicy Chicken Set'
Ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... they are offering different
types of set meals over here. Since this is the first time, I'm coming here
I decided to go with this set meal.

'Kimchi'
The side dish that comes with this meal would be a bowl of 'Kimchi'. Nicely
marinated, the bowl of 'Kimchi' isn't too spicy and at the same time pretty
tasty. Too bad the portion is kinda small, but as a side dish, it has
definitely served it's purpose and bring up my appetite too.

'Spicy Chicken'
Surrounded with a nice pool of spicy sauce and at the same time covered with
ingredients like Sesame and Spring Onions, the succulent and tasty plate of
chicken is a pretty good deal. With this plate of chicken, one can easily
wipe out 2 or more bowls of rice. (It's just kinda sad that they ain't
offering free flow of rice over here.) However...

'Coffee float'
Though they don't have free flow of rice over here, but they do have free
flow of beverages and ice cream over here. For a start, I was trying out
one of the special menu for coffee floats over here. How should I put it,
though I'm getting both a sweet and a bitter taste, but this just simply
couldn't catch my attention. Though I would really want to give tea float
a try... but definitely not after a unique coffee float.

The set meal over here not only comes with free flow of hot/cold beverages.
It also comes with free flow ice cream too. Besides offering several big
tubs of ice cream of different flavors, they also have a machine that gives
you the normal soft serve ice cream too. Since there isn't a time
restriction, therefore you can really sit here the whole enjoying the free
flow of beverages and ice cream and chill the whole afternoon away. :D

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Just Acia'
It has a few outlets island wide and the above shows the outlet located inside
'Dhoby Ghaut Xchange', which is located inside 'Dhoby Ghaut MRT'.

Case of the missing finger...?

I have tried countless 'Fried Chicken' from different parts of Singapore, but this is the first time I'm giving 'Korean Fried Chicken' a try. But what makes it so different from the normal 'Fried Chicken'? That would be something that I will be exploring today. :)

'4 Fingers Crispy Chicken Set Meals'
This would be one of their best sellers. It comes with both wings and drumettes
topped with a small portion of fries and a drink. Over here, you get to choose
the favoring for the Chicken. You can choose from 3 different sauces, they are
'Soy Garlic' or 'Hot' or 'Mix'. As for the fries that comes with the set meal,
there are 2 different seasoning for you to choose too and they are 'Kim Chi' and
'Seaweed Red Pepper' fries. Anyway, I ended up choosing the 'Mix flavor' for the
'Chicken' and fries that doesn't come with any seasoning.

The fries are pretty normal for a start. Although they are neither too soft nor
too crunchy, but there isn't anything special about the taste of the fries too.
Probably I should have gone ahead with one of the seasonings, in order to get a
unique experience. As for the 'Fried Chicken', it's actually quite different from
the 'Western Fried Chicken'. Unlike the 'Western Fried Chicken' that comes with
a thick crispy layer of coating, over here you won't be getting that. What you are
actually getting over here would be a far more thinner and less oilier layer of
deliciously marinated crispy coating. Though it's slightly a bit sticky too.
However as you dig into the meat of the Chicken, the juicy and chewy sensation
would be a big (+). It fact, the taste of the sauce is so good that I just couldn't
stop myself from licking my fingers. :P But, it would be great if they can increase
the portion much much more, so that heavy eaters like me wouldn't leave the place
with an half emptied stomach.

So where can you give the 'Chickens' a good try?
The name of this restaurant would be '4 Fingers Crispy Chicken'.
The above shows the outlet located on basement 4 of 'ION Orchard'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    10:00 - 22:30 Daily
  • Not sure about the other outlets, but the queue at 'ION Orchard' just doesn't fails to amaze me. It just keeps going on and on. There's always a queue leading out of the place, every time I pass by the place.

Sizzling Hot Plate of Chicken, not really in Town

Pretty much similar to all the other cafeteria/canteen in NUS, you will be holding on to a tray as you place your orders and they will start preparing your food as you place your orders. Once it's ready, they will place in on your tray and off you go.

'Dak Bulgogi(Spicy Marinated Chicken) Set Meal'
All the set meals over here comes with 2 side dishes(Kimchi and Ikan Bilis)
, though portion wise they are kinda small but those set dishes do carry
the idea of Korean food. These dishes do carry the spicy and salty taste of
Korean food. On top of that, the set meal also comes with a bowl of rice
and a bowl of seaweed soup. The taste of the soup is pretty normal though.
:| One thing that I find it disturbing would be the chopsticks that they
are providing over here. Not that I couldn't use these chopsticks, it's
just that the thin and flat chopsticks are pretty hard to handle and grab
my dishes. (Though there's always the Fork and Spoon alternative, but...)
However...

'Dak Bulgogi'(Spicy Marinated Chicken)
The main dish is a big (+). For a start, texture wise, I love their choice
of vegetables and chicken. These ingredients come together to form a chewy
and crunchy sensation. In fact, the moist and chewy meat gives another big
(+). Best of all, they are covered with a nice spicy sauce, which builds
up the overall sensation even further. :P With the amount of (+) that was
given to this set meal, I don't see a reason why one shouldn't be giving
the food over here a try. :D

So where can you give the Korean food a try?
The name of this place would be 'Hwang's Korean Restaurant'.
It's located in 'NUS University Town'.

Remaking the Claypot Rice

Some dishes have a very long history behind it and it ain't an easy task trying to break away from the same old method of preparing the dish and coming up with a new way of preparing it. However...

'Water Chestnut'
For a start, the taste of the 'Water Chestnut' are pretty refreshing for
a warm day.

'Stone Pot Chicken'(香香鸡肉)
Doesn't this dish looks beautiful to you? There's a nice mixture of different
colours. Ingredients like 'Special Marinated Chicken', 'Sliced Salted Fish,'
'Sausage', 'Mushroom' and 'Vegetable' have been added into this dish.

When it comes to 'Claypot Rice', who could forget about the important soy sauce?

With a lot of tedious stirring, I finally managed to stir all the ingredients
inside the 'Stone Bowl' nicely together. Here comes the nice part about this dish.

The taste of this is pretty much similar to a normal 'Claypot Rice' and unlike the
normal 'Claypot', this does not have the problem of the rice sticking onto the bowl.
Therefore like some of my friends, if you really love the taste and the texture of
the overcook, crispy rice, you could really savour it till the very last bit over
here. On top of the crispy rice, each individual bite also comes with a nice
fragrance of 'Salted fish' and a good mix of the sweet ingredients listed in the
above. Even though the portion of 'Claypot Rice' that I'm getting over here are much
more smaller than the regular ones, but I don't need to worry about the bones of the
'Chicken' and I could really emptied the whole bowl without any wastage.

(By the way, as compared to any other types of bowl, the 'Stone Bowl' can keep
the food warm for a much more longer period of time, which is a big (+) :D)

'Stone Pot Sliced Pork'(片片猪肉)
Prefer 'Pork'? No worries! They have a similar dish that have replace all the
'Chicken' meat with sliced 'Pork' meat.

'Stone Pot Bacon & Cheese Rice'(奶酪熏肉)
They also have something cheesy for the cheese lovers.

'Stone Pot Chicken, Longans & Black Bean'(龙眼黑豆鸡汤)
They are using the 'Stone Bowl' to serve the soup too.

'Onion Cheese Mushroom Omelette'(洋葱煎蛋)
While preparing this dish, it seems that the ingredients are added one
by one, since the ingredients are separated and they are not sticking
together nicely.

'Mango Ice Cream'
The taste of the Mango Ice Cream is pretty thick and strong. Initially, we
were given the impression that the owner has prepared the 'Ice Cream' herself,
but she has confessed that the 'Ice Cream' were made by someone else and she
herself were pretty impressed with the quality of the 'Ice Cream'.
(Hmm... I wonder who's behind the nice 'Ice Cream' over here.)

So what's the name of this restaurant?
The name of this restaurant would be 'Signature Stone Restaurant'.
It's located along 'Havelock Road'.

Not so Korean, Korean Food

A continuation from the previous post. Though I have go ahead with the Taiwanese Chicken, but probably because of the fact that I didn't try the Bento set, therefore I'm still pretty hungry. So...

'Hotplate Chicken and Saba Fish Set'
Though the name of the shop and the food looks 'Korean', but if you
replace the silver utensils with a plastic utensils, it actually looks
like the normal hotplate food that one can get from a Chinese or
Japanese restaurant. Oh by the way, since this is a small little stall,
you are actually expected to grab your utensils and a small plate of
'Kim Chi' and 'Anchovy' from a table near the counter. (By the way,
they are providing 2 different types of chopsticks over here. One would
be the thin type that you can getting at a 'Korean' restaurant and the
other type would be the normal Chinese chopsticks.)

Moving back to food tasting, the taste of the side dish is pretty normal.
However, the ingredients in the hot plate is considerably good. Though
the vegetables are slightly a bit overcook and a bit soggy, but since
the taste of the vegetables were overpowered by the sauce, one could
finish the whole plate of vegetables without any difficulties. Next, the
hot plate chicken is pretty tasty. It's neither too salty nor burnt.
And for some reason, the chef have managed to blend the taste of the
chicken and the taste of the sauce together, which makes it even better.
As for the fish, I think it's slightly a bit overcook and since it's
'Saba'(Mackerel) fish, therefore one has to spend a bit of time struggling
with the bones of the fish. By the way, the Sunshine Egg is a add-on to
the set meal. And I didn't expect it to be this good. The egg is slightly
a bit watery and dipping the chicken into the egg yolk is a complete
Plus(+). Do give this stall a try, if you happen to be popping by
that area.

So where can you give the food a try?

The name of the stall would be 'Sun Korean Food'.
It's located in basement 1 of 'Central Shopping Mall'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours: 11am - 10pm
  • Probably because of the offices upstairs, therefore the crowd at this stall can be pretty nasty. Therefore, either go to this stall earlier or later to avoid the Lunch and Dinner crowd.

This is not Cooking Mama......

Though I'm not a very big fan of Korean food, but once in a while, I think that a change of taste can make things pretty interesting and therefore, I decided to pay a nearby Korean restaurant a visit. :D

As for myself, what interest me most of the time, would be the
side dishes. Probably after I went for an overseas trip or two,
it seems that my interest for side dishes has increased rapidly.
To some extent, sometimes I think I was busy focusing and
savouring the side dishes more than the main dish. =.=""
What I love best about the Korean side dishes would be the variety
that they will be giving you. It can be a mixture of various kind
of tastes. Though one might not ended up finishing all the side
dishes, but there ought to be one that will suit your taste bud.
(Too bad, the side dishes of this place isn't refillable.)

'Suyuk' / Boiled Pork
Just by taking a look at this dish, it reminds me of the
infamous Chinese dish 'Beijing Duck'(北京烤鸭). You can
choose to either have a slice of boiled pork with or without
the cucumber slices or bean sprouts in spicy sauce.
This is my first attempt at this dish and it's pretty
good. Although only slices of Pork Belly are given,
but it's prepared in a healthier manner and the original
taste of the pork belly still remains in it. Perhaps
this can be part of a healthy diet? :P
(To some extent, the taste of this dish is pretty much
similar to the roast meat that you are getting at a
'Char Siew' rice stall. :D)
So where can you get this?

The name of this restaurant would be 'Big Mama'.
It's located along Kim Tian Road.
Notes:
  • For some reason, this restaurant seems to be pretty crowded most of the time and I would highly encourage you to make a reservation before making a trip to that place.

Too Meat 2 be true....

As usual, raining days would be good opportunity to dine out. You have choices like steamboat, spicy food and also... BBQ (Barbeque) food. And here comes another place that have thrown in unlimited supply of meat at an amazingly low price.

Similar to the restaurant 'His.tori', which is less than 3 or 4 shops away,
this restaurant is providing buffet-style BBQ food.
On top of the meat variety you can
choose from, they also have Sausages.
Which is a (+) especially when you can pop a Sausages while
waiting for slices of meat to be ready.
Another good thing about this place would be
the service that they are providing.
The waiters and waitresses have been constantly refilling
the raw ingredients, changing the black-coloured aluminium foil
and also replacing the Water flask.

This would be the place serving this relatively budget friendly BBQ buffet. The name of the place would be '2D 1N Soju Bang'. It's located near 'His.tori', which is like 3 or 4 shops away.

Note/Suggestions:
  • Reservations cannot be made so if you want to go to this place, you better turn up early like 5:30pm?
  • As you are going to have BBQ food indoor, I would highly suggest you to be prepared that you will ended up with a very strong odour after your dinner.
  • Fruits like Watermelon tend to run out pretty fast so.... better grab some before its gone. :P

A meat paradise....

What' is the definition for 'Meat Paradise'? As for myself, I think that a place that serves meat at a pretty low and comes with a large variety can be considered as a 'Meat Paradise'. The following place would be a good example of 'Meat Paradise'.

As usual images come first.
Just look at the pictures in the above.
You can easily identify slices of Bacon, Chicken and Beef.
Too bad they didn't provide slices of Mutton, which is kinda disappointing.
And another good reason why you wouldn't like this place would probably be
due to the fact that you have to cook the meat on top of a hot plate by yourself.
Oh by the way, did I mention that they are offering more than 16 over different
kinds of marinated meat and some of the unique items that they offer includes
marinated Miso Chicken, Fish cakes that comes in cubes and all sorts of marinated
beef and Pork Belly. On top of that, I think that they are trying to portray
themselves as a Korean or Japanese Restaurant, hence you can also find items like
miso soup, Kimchi, Korean drinks made with rice grains, etc at this place.

So what exactly is the name of this place and where is it located?

The name of this place would be 'His.tori'.
It is located along the streets of Tanjong Pagar, which is also the
same location where you can find tons of Korean restaurants located
in that area. And by the way they are currently having a promotion.
For the price of S$20 dollars, you can go for a buffet that includes
more than 15 different kinds of marinated meat for dinner.
(Note: there's also no service charge and GST. Isn't it fantastic?)

Note:
  • You probably want to contact them and make a reservation first before making a trip there.
  • Location: 20 Tanjong Pagar Road, Singapore, Singapore 088443
    Opening Hours:
    Mon - Fri: 11:00 am - 2:30 pm
