Champion Ramen of Singapore Changi Airport

I love 'Japanese Ramen'. Therefore, since I have a bit of free time last week, I decided to travel all the way to the Singapore Changi International Airport Terminal 3 to give the new 'Japanese Ramen' stalls over there a try. Therefore, I will be blogging about the new 'Japanese Ramen' stalls over there this week.

The following would be the introduction of the 1st stall - Power Ramen 'Riki'.

The above would be a photo of the appearance of Power Ramen 'Riki'.

The best seller of the stall would most likely be 'Nitamago Riki Ramen'.
However, being a big fan of spicy food, I decided to give the spicy
version of 'Nitamago Riki Ramen' a try instead.

The following will be my own opinion of the 'Ramen'.
The soup of the 'Ramen' were pretty thick and on top of the thick soup,
the taste of Garlic were pretty strong too. Besides of the thick soup,
the ingredients that were included in the 'Ramen' were beansprouts, Cabbage,
'Char Siew', also known as barbecued pork slices, and half-boiled egg.
Although a variety of ingredients were given, I'm pretty amazed with the
fact that the chef can managed to maintain a balance between the amount
of vegetables and meat used in this bowl of 'Ramen'.
Note: I think the taste of the Half Boiled egg was pretty normal.

Delicious piece of thick 'Char Siew'. Don't you just love it?
If you have a passion for a bowl of 'Ramen' that comes with a strong taste,
you probably want to give this stall a try.

The following would be the introduction of the 1st stall - 'Gensuke' Chicken Ramen.

The above would be a photo of the appearance of 'Gensuke' Chicken Ramen.

The best seller of the stall would most likely be 'Ajitama Chicken Ramen'.
Hence, I decided to give both 'Ajitama Chicken Ramen' and 'Chicken Gyoza' a try.

The following will be my own opinion of the 'Ramen'.
This is probably the thickest chicken 'Ramen' soup base that I have
tasted in Singapore. I wonder how long does it take to make a bowl
of chicken soup of such great taste. Besides of the chicken soup base,
ingredients that were included in the 'Ramen' were vegetables,
half boiled egg and also few slices of chicken meat...
Hold on for a second... no 'Char Siew' in the 'Ramen'???
I personally felt that 'Char Siew' was one of the most important
'Ramen' ingredient that shouldn't be taken out. Which makes me
kind of disappointed with this stall.
Although the overall taste of the 'Ramen' was pretty tasty, I'm still
pretty disappoint with the fact that no 'Char Siew' was given. :(
If you haven't tried a bowl of 'Ramen' that comes with a chicken soup base,
you probably want to give this stall a try.
Note: I think the taste of the 'Chicken Gyoza' was pretty normal.

It's Time for the Wow Wow West...

Time to move on to the 'Wow Wow West' and nope, I'm not referring to the 18th century America with lots of cowboys riding across America. What I'm refering here would be the stall that sells western food and has a stall name of 'Wow Wow West'.

As usual, photos of food comes first.

I like Fish & Chips.
When it comes to Western Food, my first choice would always be Fish & Chips.
I have always love the soft piece of fish that comes with a crispy texture.
Although the other types of meat were just as great, but Fish & Chips
have always been my first priority when it comes to Western food.

Although there are more and more chain of restaurants that specialising in
preparing and selling Western Food, etc. Astons, Botak Jones, this was
probably one of the first few places that prepares cheap, generous and
delicious Western Food. For every main dish that you have ordered, not 2
but 3 side dishes will be given. The 3 sides dishes would be French Fries
(taste pretty ordinary, or maybe it's because I'm not into French Fries),
Coleslaw(Oh man, I can't believe that Coleslaw can be so delicious) and
also baked beans(Pretty ordinary also).

Chicken Cheese Sausage
I'm not sure about the past but it seems that they have added a few more
new items to the menu. This would probably be one of them. Just look at
the size of the Sausage, the length was similar to the length of my palm.
I'm pretty sure that it isn't an easy task for you to find food stalls
selling such thick and lengthy Sausages in Singapore. Although the taste
was pretty normal, but for the price that you are paying, I guess that
it's pretty worth it after all.

The above would be the menu of the stall. Look look, most of the items
on the menu are less than S$10, which is a +1.

So where is the stall located?

This would be the look of the stall and
it is located in 'ABC Brickworks Market/Food Centre'.

More Info:
  • Stall is closed on Sunday.
  • Open till 9pm daily.
  • There's another store with the name of 'Wow Wow West' located in Henderson Market too. The interesting part was the owner for both stalls used to be the same person, but according to some news articles on the Internet, I guess that he had given up the ownership of the stall located in Henderson Market to someone else and he currently only has a stall left and that would be the stall located in 'ABC Brickworks Market/Food Centre'.

A Cantonese Breakfast

Last week, I finally understand why Hong Kongers like to have 'Rice Noodle Roll'(豬腸粉) for breakfast so badly. Rather than putting it in words, I would prefer the step of showing you food photos and explaining at the same time.

Well, here goes...
'Rice Noodle Roll'(豬腸粉)
This would be the main highlight of this post. So what's so special
about this 'Rice Noodle Roll'? Firstly, eating this reminds me of the
China delicacy 'Beijing Duck'(北京烤鸭). There is a soft layer of
'Rice Noodle' wrapping pieces of 'Char Siew', or more commonly known
as barbecued pork meat, and crunchy vegetables, which makes it almost
similar to the way how 'Beijing Duck' was prepared. Similarly, when
you compare the prices of both dishes, the 'Rice Noodle Roll', would
probably be 10 or 20 more times much more cheaper than the 'Beijing Duck'.
Having this cheap and delicious delicacy for breakfast everyday would
be a luxury. :D

As for Breakfast, what goes well with 'Rice Noodle Roll' the most?
My answer would be a bowl of Porridge. Besides preparing and selling
a variety of 'Rice Noodle Roll', this stall also prepares a large
variety of Porridge. By the way, the photo in the above shows a
bowl of 'Seafood Porridge'. It's basically a normal bowl of Porridge
with ingredients like Prawns, Cuttlefish, fish, etc...

The above would be the menu of the stall.

So where can you find this stall?

This would be the stall that sells the delicious plate of 'Rice Noodle Roll'
that I have introduced in this post. The name of the stall would
be 'Jiu Ye'(久叶) and it is located at Tanglin Halt Market.

More Info:
  • Stall closes on every Tuesday.
  • Stall closes by 10 am every morning and nope there isn't a typo and I was pretty shock myself that the stall closes at 10 am every morning.

Japan's biggest chain of Gyoza Restaurant - "Gyoza No Ousho"

Have you been to Japan before? If you have, you would probably have seen or tried the restaurant that specialise in selling 'Gyoza'. In fact, there's a 'Gyoza No Ousho' branch in Singapore and it is located at Cuppage Plaza. Therefore, I have decided to blog about the restaurant today.

The above was a photo of the exterior of Singapore's 'Gyoza No Ousho'.

Since the name of the restaurant is 'Gyoza No Ousho', which means that it
is the 'King of Gyoza', therefore their speciality would be the 'Gyoza',
also known as 'Dumplings'. The restaurant only sells 2 different kinds of
'Gyoza' and that would be 'Pan-Fried Gyoza'(Left) and 'Deep-Fried Gyoza'(Right).
What's the best part about the 'Gyoza' that they have prepared?
The crispy skin were fantastic and it blends prefectly with the ingredients.

Note:
'Gyoza No Ousho' was founded in Kyoto, Japan.
Unbelievable and amazingly interesting.

A Green Pumpkin?

A Green Pumpkin? I think most of you have only seen a Orange Pumpkin before but what or how does a Japanese Green Pumpkin looks like... I wonder... But wait a minute, what I'm going to share today isn't about a fruit but a ...

Japanese Bakery store with the name of 'Green Pumpkin'.

Let us take a look around the shop.
Although the shop isn't very big, which doesn't really matter, the
most important part about a bakery would be the bread that they
are selling. As for the rest, it doesn't really matter at all.

The above are photos of the breads that they are selling.
For example: Mango Melon Pan (Bun), White Cheese Bread,
Green Pumpkin Pan (Bread), etc.

I love all the creativity with the bread that they are making,
therefore I always exit 'nex Shopping Centre' with a big bag
of pastry from 'Green Pumpkin' Japanese Bakery.
(And that was also the most interesting shop in 'nex Shopping
Centre', I think.)

More Info:
  • Currently, there is only a place where you can find 'Green Pumpkin' Japanese Bakery and that would be 'nex Shopping Centre', located next to Serangoon MRT Station.

Something special for everyone, Crab Meat Popiah

I guess most Singaporeans have eaten a Popiah before, but have you eaten a Popiah that comes with Crab Meat before? And that is going to be our main topic today.

Here comes...
the Crab Meat Popiah.
Main ingredients included are Crab Meat, Egg, Peanuts and Vegetables.
Best of all, each roll of Popiah doesn't comes with Pork or Lard.
Which means that unless you are a vegetarian, otherwise you wouldn't get
into any form of trouble eating this. XD On top of the ingredients,
this isn't the kind of Popiah that you would have difficulty handling
them. The skin was actually made up of multiple thin layers of Popiah
skin to prevent the ingredients to fall apart. (I like it.)
And this is probably my first encounter with a stall selling a roll of
Popiah that comes with Crab Meat. Interesting taste and I don't mind
coming back here for more... but....

Photo of the stall owner making a roll of Popiah.

So where is this Popiah stall located?

The name of the stall would be 'Ong Khim Popiah' and it is located
in 'ABC Brickworks Market/Food Centre'.

More Info:
  • Once a queue started to appear in front of this stall, waiting time can be quite nasty.
  • Drawback of the stall would be the irregular dates that the stall will be opened for business.
  • They close at around 9 pm at night.

Warning, Warning: Here comes the biggest plate of Mee Rebus in Singapore...

'Mee Rebus' a Malay delicacy, was probably something that most Singaporean have eaten it before. But do you know that you can also find a plate of 'Mee Rebus' that is much much bigger than your regular plate of 'Mee Rebus'? (Note: This is not a discovery channel... lolx)

Here comes the...
biggest plate of 'Mee Rebus' in Singapore.
It tasted the same as the other 'Mee Rebus' but that isn't the most
important point that I'm trying to make here. As for myself, 'Mee Rebus'
wouldn't be something that I would have for a meal. Especially when the
portion isn't very big. But as for this, this is something that I find
it pretty satisfying. I think just by ordering one plate of 'Mee Rebus',
you can already satisfy the stomach of 2 regular adults.
(Yes, I know I'm an exceptional case.)

So what other delicacies can you order from this stall?

If I'm not mistaken, the size of each and every plate of 'Mee Siam'
is similar to the size of the 'Mee Rebus'. XD So for all you crazy
'Mee Siam' eaters out there, this is like a dream come true. XD
One big plate of 'Mee Siam' or 'Mee Rebus' for a meal or two should
stop the urge of eating 'Mee Siam' or 'Mee Rebus' for a week or two?

The name of the stall would be Goody 'N' Jolly. It is located in the
basement 1 food court of 'Parkway Parade'.

After numerous post on Noodles, I suddenly realise...

After numerous post on Noodles, I suddenly realised that I haven't touch on the following dish at all, which was also an infamous Malay dish.

Introducing...

an infamous Malay dish, 'Mee Rebus'.
Let us go through the ingredients that were used in a bowl of 'Mee Rebus' first.
Let's take a look at the thick gravy first. Although the gravy is brown in
colour, the ingredients that were used were pretty interesting. Ingredients
that were used in preparing the soup are things like Potatoes, Soybean paste,
Curry Powder, Peanuts, etc. Looking at the major ingredients, it sort of
explains why the gravy was brown in colour.

And besides for the gravy , what else will you be getting in a bowl of 'Mee Rebus'?
Most of the time, a bowl of Mee Rebus will include ingredients like Noodle,
bean sprouts, hard boiled egg, firm tofu(Tau Kwa), green chillies, etc.

Here's another photo of the 'Mee Rebus', after mixing the ingredients
thoroughly. So what is so special about 'Mee Rebus'?
Firstly, unlike the Chinese that have been providing pickled green chillies
as a optional ingredient, the Malays uses fresh green chillies in most of
their dishes. Being a fan of Noodles and green chillies, there's absolutely
no reason why I would hate this dish. Secondly, the gravy is both thick and
sweet. If you manage to stir a bowl of 'Mee Rebus' thoroughly, the gravy
will reduce the spicy taste of the green chilli a bit. Hence you ended up
to taste the green chillies without having to worry about the spicy taste.
Last but not least, with the fact that once you have added noodles to a
thick gravy, the noodles will becomes soggy. 'Mee Rebus' isn't an exception,
therefore bean sprouts will added to a bowl of 'Mee Rebus' so that you will
still be getting a crunchy taste while savouring a bowl of 'Mee Rebus'.

The photos of the 'Mee Rebus' that I have shown in this post was prepared
by a stall located in a coffee shop located at the corner of Tanglin Halt
Road Blk 47. Frankly speaking, I love to dine in non air-conditional places.
Especially when these places were the best places to source for cheaper
and better food in Singapore. XD

Note:
  • If I'm free over the next few days, I will probably follow up with a post on one of the biggest or probably the biggest 'Mee Rebus' that you can find in Singapore.
* Click here for the location of the coffee shop.

The importance of a plate of rice...

When it comes to eating a plate of Chicken Rice, the rice actually plays a very big role in the local delicacy. Therefore, I am going to introduce to you a good place that prepares and sells good Chicken Rice. Introducing...

The above would be a plate of Chicken Rice with visceral (internal organs).
Usually I don't go for visceral, but I also don't like to hold on to too many
coins with me too. Therefore I decided to top up a bit more, so that I don't
need to hold on to any coins at all. (Kill 2 birds with 1 stones. XD)

So what's so special about the Chicken Rice of this place?
First of all, this stall was probably serving one of the best fragrance rice
that I have tasted so far. Secondly, the portion that was given was pretty
generous and at the same time delicious. Thirdly, despite of the fact that
this stall is selling boneless chicken, the taste of the Chicken is as good
as, no I think that it's even much more tastier than normal Chicken. XD.
Last but not least, I also like the way they are preparing each and every
plate of Chicken Rice. Unlike some other stalls that I frequent, this stall
is preparing the rice and the Chicken meat on 2 separate plates.

As for the reason why I like the way they are preparing the Chicken meat,
would be due to the fact that by placing the meat on a separate plate,
the Chicken would be able adsorb the sauce thoroughly. Although, this extra
step have also made it even much more oily but for the sake of each and
every slice of Chicken, everything is worth it. XD

The above would be the menu of the Chicken Rice stall, in case
anyone of you out there wanted to find out what other dishes
this stall is offering.

So where is this stall located?

The name of the stall would be 'Tong Fong Fatt(東風發)' Hainanese
Boneless Chicken Rice stall. It seems that they have opened have a few
branches opened within the Town area, hence you would probably want to
try Googling a bit and search for the most convenient stall to visit.
As for the stall that I have shown in this post, it was the one that
was located in 'ABC Brickworks Market/Food Centre'.

Note:
  • The stalls closes at around 8-9pm daily.

The Green Dragon hidden in the woods...

Nope, the title doesn't mean that I am going to eat a dragon today. It just happen to be related to my post today. I dont't think it is even possible for you to find a dragon today, let alone eating them.

As for today, introducing...
Yang Chun Noodles(阳春面) and Spicy Dumpling Soup(麻辣抄手).
After trying a variety of Yang Chun Noodles, I'm getting lost with the
term Yang Chun Noodles. And it seems that this place is selling the
Authentic Shanghai style Yang Chun Noodles. It seems that in Shanghai,
Yang Chun Noodles is basically a bowl of noodles with soup only.
Nothing else will be added to the Noodles and even if something is
added to it, it would most probably be chopped green onions only.
Like I have been saying in the past, simplicity is the best. XD

Let's move on to the next dish, Spicy Dumpling Soup(麻辣抄手).
Instead of expressing how much I love the taste of this dish,
I am going to teach you how to learn to appreciate spicy food. XD
Firstly, take a few sips from the soup of the dish, or take a few
bite from the dish first. Continue taking a few more bites, followed
with a few sip from a hot cup of tea or water or soup.
(Note: it must not be a cold drink this is because it have been proven
that once you take a cold drink after drinking a thick spicy bowl of
soup can easily cause indigestion and even acid reflux.)
Continue with the steps stated in the above and you will eventually
get to learn to appreciate spicy food. The best part will only appear
when you take a sip from your beverage. The cooling, refreshing feeling,
something that I will never ever forget... XD

The above would be the menu of the stall. For a Noodle fan like me,
this is like a stall specially built for me. By the way, there are
10 pieces of dumplings in each bowl of dumplings soup and you will be
getting 20 pieces of dumplings for the bigger size of dumpling soup, but as
for myself, a smaller bowl of dumplings soup is more than enough. XD

This is how the stall looks like. It is located in one of the canteens
of Prince George's Park Residences.

Oh by the way, as for the reason behind the title of this post,
would be due to the fact that the name of the stall would be
'Green Dragon Noodle King(青龙大面王)'.

Note:
  • This stall is opened everyday.
  • Operating hours would be morning till 8pm at night during weekdays and morning till 6pm during weekends.
