No 1 or No 2 indeed...

I managed to wake up pretty early that day and rather than doing a road trip, I decided to go ahead with a food trip. This was only the third item and I already couldn't go any further...

'Lor Mee'(卤麺)
Basically the 'Lor Mee' over here is pretty plain. If you have gone for the small
portion, on top of the type of noodles that you have selected, you will only be
getting bean sprouts, braised meat and braised egg. But if you have gone for the
bigger bowls, you will also be getting a generous portion of fish meat too.
Depending on your preference, you can decide the amount of vinegar, minced garlic,
chilli paste and red-cut chilli that you would like to add. Well, as for myself,
I have gone for everything.

Taste wise, the texture of the soup over here is pretty much similar to the one
located along 'Bukit Purmei Road'. The taste of the soup is pretty good and thick.
On top of that, it's not too sticky, which makes the process of stirring and mixing
all the ingredients relatively easy. :)

As for the food itself, I'm giving the generous portion of ingredients that was
given, 2 thumbs up. The delicious taste of the noodles and the fresh ingredients are
pretty delicious. Even though I managed to finish the whole bowl of 'Lor Mee', but
I have to put an end to the 'Food Trip' over here. Basically, my stomach was so
full that I couldn't continue eating for the next 4 hours or so. Anyway even
though the 'Lor Mee' over here are pretty delicious and filling but I kinda miss
the crispy bits of the 'Lor Mee'. It would be great it they could add the crispy
bits as one of the ingredients too. :P

So where can you give the delicious bowl of 'Lor Mee' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Xin Mei Xiang Zheng Zong Lor Mee'(新美香正宗卤麺).
It's located inside 'Old Airport Road Food Centre'.

  • Operating Hours:
    Fridays - Wednesdays: 07:00am - 15:00pm
    (Closed on Thursdays.)
  • Basically, they will just closed for the day once there's no more gravy. The other day, business seems to be pretty good. By 13:15pm, the stall owners have begun to pack up everything, which is pretty early, I think.
  • As for the waiting time, it can get as long as an hour. (Basically it depends on the number of customer queueing in front of you and the number of bowls of 'Lor Mee' that they have ordered.)

Hakka Style...

Since my current workplace is located near this gem hidden in a hawker centre nearby, I decided to give it a go. :D

'Hakka Yong Tau Fu'(客家娘豆腐)
So what's so special about 'Hakka Yong Tau Foo'?
Well for a start, rather than stuffing most of the ingredients with fish paste,
they are stuffing the ingredients with meat paste. Hence, besides for the usual
bitter gourd with fish paste, they also go all the way out making bitter gourd
with meat paste. On top of that, the staff owners have also gone the extra mile
frying some of the ingredients. For example: fried capsicum, fried bitter gourd,
etc... So basically, although every single ingredient might appear the same, but
the filling and the overall taste of the ingredient can differ. What I love best
about the food over here would be the soup. Although the clear soup might look
ordinary, but the generous portion of green vegetables that was added and the
super nice taste of the soup itself have definitely caught my interest. I think
that soybean was one of the ingredients that was added into the soup, but it
doesn't seems to be so simple. There's simply depth in the soup base, I think.

Although I'm not a big fan of rice vermicelli, but the sauces that was added into
the bowl of vermicelli have definitely helps a lot. The overall dining experience
is pretty nice. The sweet and spicy taste is definitely worth trying. :D
(By the way, I think they are making their own sauces, because I don't think
the taste of the sauces reminds me of anything out there.)

So where can you give the 'Hakka Yong Tau Fu' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'The Hakka Yong Tau Fu Stall'(客家娘豆腐).
It's located inside 'Ghim Moh Market and Food Centre'.

Notes:
  • Opening Hours:
    From 08:30am till 14:30pm
    (Closed every Mondays)
  • Take note, during lunch hours, the queue at this stall can be pretty crazy. Hence, it ended up to be a matter of either you go there pretty early or you don't.
  • By the way, ignore the queue over here. It's probably a 'fake' queue of people crowding around the stall waiting for their food. You should take a bowl of ingredients and pass it to the auntie standing next to the stall and tell her how would you want it to be prepared. She will pass you a piece of paper with a queue number written on it. And you can go around the food centre sourcing for more yummy stuff while waiting for the food. Just remember to pick up your precious bowl of 'Yong Tau Fu' afterwards.

Is this the evolution of Satay?

Since I can knock off early and I have the time and I'm dying to give this delicacy a try since a few weeks back, therefore...

Mixture of 'Black Pepper Chicken and Pork Satay'
and normal 'Chicken and Pork Satay' with Rice
For a start, it seems that the 'Satay sauce' have undergone the process of
heating up continuously, therefore the hot and chunky sauces aren't watery
at all. However, the amount of sauces that was given aren't sufficient. Or
probably I was dipping each and every one of the ingredients into the sauce,
therefore...

Rice wise, I think that it will look much more attractive if they have
provided the rice with the leaves wrapping around it, rather than just a
cube of rice, which looks pretty bare. Although the taste is pretty much
the same, but at least that would make it looks much more better.

If I'm given the choice to choose either 'Chicken' or 'Pork' Satay, most
likely I will go with 'Chicken Satay'. This is mainly due to the fact that
if the cook really have a fantastically good 'Satay' cooking skills, the
colour of the 'Chicken Satay' will ended up to be 'Reddish Brown' in colour.

As for the 'Chicken Satay' over here, not only it looks attractive, it's
pretty succulent too. Similar to some other Satay stalls out there, they are
barbecuing the Satay over a charcoal fire, therefore even if you are eat the
Satay meat directly, the fragrance and the taste of the Satay will explode
inside your mouth which gives you a heavenly feeling. As for the 'Black Pepper'
Satays, the texture were pretty much similar to the normal ones. However
just by coating the Satay meat with a layer of 'Black Pepper' will give you a
sharp aroma and a spicy touch when you put the meat into your mouth. I think
that this is an interesting evolution of the normal 'Satay' and if you love
spicy stuff and 'Satay', this would be the thing for both you (and me?). :P

The name of this stall would be 'Fu Dao Home Made Satay'(甫道沙爹专卖店).
It's located inside 'Old Airport Road Food Centre'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Wednesdays - Fridays: 17:00pm - 22:00pm
    Saturdays: 13:00pm - 22:00pm
    Sundays: 16:00pm - 22:00pm
    (Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.)
  • Basically, they will just closed for the day once all the Satays have been sold out. Therefore if you really want to give the Satays over here a try, place your orders as early as possible to secure a plate of delicious Satay. (Personal advice, try to place your orders before 21:00pm.)

A Seafood Cake...

As mentioned in my previous posts, I have been going around giving all the good food that I haven't been eating frequently a good try. And I don't really want to waste my time making a trip down to 'Maxwell Food Centre' with the 'Oyster Cake' stall closed, therefore I decided to give this place a try...

'Oyster Cake'(蚝餅)
The stall owner over here is making and preparing 2 different types of 'Oyster Cake'.
There's the normal type and a special type with additional ingredients. Basically on
my 1st attempt, I have gone for the special 'Oyster Cake' and it was stuffed with 2
prawns, 2 oysters, peanuts, minced meat, vegetables and ikan bilis. And the shape of
the final product was similar to the shape of a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object).

First of all, the texture of the 'Oyster Cake' isn't too oily. As and when you take
a bite off the 'Oyster Cake', you will definitely be getting the taste of a mixture
of 2 or more ingredients. The elderly stall owner have been using fresh seafood
ingredients in the slow and tedious process of making each and every piece of
'Oyster Cake', which probably explains the delicious taste and the large customer base.
The nice mixture of all the ingredients simply make it even much more irresistible.
Basically, I have also tried the normal 'Oyster Cake', but it's not even half as
satisfying as the special 'Oyster Cake'.

Random shot of the stall and the 'Oyster Cake'.
Basically, one particular reason why 'Oyster Cake' is a delicacy might probably
be due to the fact that it's super duper rare. There's probably only 1 out of 1000++
stalls out there, that still continues to prepare and sell delicious 'Oyster Cake'.

The name of this stall would be 'Poh Hwa Fu Zhou Oyster Cake'(寳華福州蚝餅).
It's located in one of the coffee shop which is located near 'Mustafa Centre'.

4 Seasons of Ramen - Keisuke Tonkotsu King Four Seasons

I went to the Central Library a few weeks ago. As I was leaving, I suddenly have this dreadful urge for a bowl of Japanese Ramen, therefore...

This Japanese Ramen Place is currently preparing and
serving 5 different types of Ramen. And each of them were
given an interesting name like 'Spring', 'Summer', 'Autumn',
'Winter' and 'King'. Anyway, I ended up choosing the
following that particular day.

'Keisuke Tonkotsu King Summer Ramen'
And my reasons for choosing this Ramen are as follows.
To the Japanese, they will relate the hot and humid Summer
season with events with fireworks festival.
Therefore, the soup will definitely be very spicy.
However, the spicy soup that the chef are preparing over
here are slightly different from all the other spicy Ramen
soup out there. If I'm not mistaken, the chef has added
onions, minced meat and several types of spicy seasoning
throughout the process of preparing this soup, which makes
it ultra Spicy and Yummy. However, the taste of all the other
ingredients are pretty ordinary, which is a disappointment.
And speaking of disappointment, the biggest disappointment
comes from the soup and the noodles that doesn't blend
together nicely. (Probably the noodles were over-rinsed or
over-cooked, therefore...)

'Keisuke Green Tea Coke'
The taste is pretty much similar to 'Coca Cola', but the
colour of this beverage is Green.

The name of this Japanese Ramen Place would be
'Keisuke Tonkotsu King Four Seasons'.
It's located at one of the corners of 'Bugis Village'.

Eating the Wild Animals...

It seems that ever since my last trip to Japan earlier this year, I haven't been going around Singapore giving all the local delicacies a good try. Therefore since I have the time the other day, I decided to have some soup for lunch. Although it's merely soup, but it can be pretty interesting too.

'Turtle Soup' with rice
For a start, the soup itself comes with a pretty strong herbal taste and I'm
pretty impress with the amount of work that is required in preparing this soup.
The taste of the soup is pretty thick and strong. Despite of the size of the
bowl, it have definitely warm me up, which makes this a pretty good alternative
when it is a crazily cold day. However, if you try to have this on a pretty hot
day, you might be getting unnecessary nose bleed. (If the stall owner has given
a bigger portion of soup that day, I think that I might be nose bleed non-stop.)

As for the turtle meat itself, there's a mixture of turtle meat and turtle skin.
For the turtle skin, the texture are pretty much similar to a jelly but it's
slightly a bit more harder and at the same time much more chewy too. As for the
meat itself, it's pretty much similar to a herbal chicken, however, the chewy
touch of the meat itself reminds me of pork.

Anyway, looks like I have found myself a pretty good alternative for a crazily
cold day. (:D)

Menu of the stall.
Besides for the Turtle Soup, this stall also prepares crocodile soup,
chicken soup, duck soup, frog soup, pork ribs soup, etc...

The name of this stall would be 'Fu He Turtle Soup'(福和山瑞).
It's located on level 2 of 'Berseh Food Centre',
which is located along 'Jalan Besar Road'.

Steamboat 4 the Chosen One

Ever had the urge of eating steamboat? However, you are facing the problem of finding a companion that has the same desire as you do? Here's a solution for you.

'Mini Steamboat Fish Set'
Basically the set meal will comes with a bowl of rice, a pot of soup and
a plate of raw ingredients and then you are off on your own. (This reminds
me of those 'interesting' cooking variety shows on TV.)

So what are the ingredients that are given
There's fish slices, crab meat, hotdog, Enokitake, rice vermicelli, a raw
egg and lots of vegetables. On by the way, upon placing your orders, the
helpful stall helper will ask you to choose the soup base for the steamboat.
Basically, there are offering 4 different soup base over here and that would
be 'Normal', 'Ma La', 'Tom Yam' or 'Herbal'. Well, as usual, I will always
ended up choosing 'Tom Yam' soup. :P

So what are the advantages of eating a pot of steamboat alone?
Well, you are the chef and you get to decide everything. Which is???
For example, sometimes I would break the egg into a bowl and beat it before
pouring it into the steamboat soup but there are times that I would ended up
breaking the egg into the soup directly. And some eaters like me love to throw
all the ingredients into the steamboat pot at one go and pick those ingredients
out slowly. But there are eaters that prefers the 'Shabu Shabu' way. (Rather
than boiling the ingredients, it's more of a dipping process. :D) As mentioned
earlier, you are the chef and you get to decide everything, hence there's
really nothing much for an individual to complain about. And by looking at the
generous amount of ingredients that you are getting, well I think that this is
a pretty good deal for both lunch and dinner.

So where can you give the 'Mini Steamboat' a try?
The name of this stall would be '132 Mini Steamboat'(美食小火鍋).
It's located inside 'Old Airport Road Food Centre'.

Creativity starts from a waffle...

I have come across this interesting 'mini cafe' when we were on our way to one of the best cinema in Singapore a few weeks back. Based on my personal experiences, I still find 'The Cathay' to be one of the best cinemas in Singapore. Anyway, since I was passing by the cinema the other day, I decided to give the food over here a try. Therefore...

Waffle set - 'Sinfully Chocolate'
For a waffle set, you get to select either a
'Savory' waffle or a 'Sweet' waffle and a beverage.

So what's a 'Savory' waffle?
Basically it's a normal waffle that comes
with meaty ingredients such as hotdog, Ham, etc...

And what's a 'Sweet' waffle?
It's a normal waffle that comes with fruits.
It can be either banana, strawberry, blueberry, etc...

Basically, I ended up choosing a 'Sweet' waffle known as 'Sinfully Chocolate'.
They chef has sliced up the waffle into 4 pieces and 3 of them are covered with
chocolate flakes, which is 'Koko Krunch', pieces of chocolate and also chocolate
sauce. The texture of the waffle is pretty nice, which is crispy on the outside
and moist on the inside. I started slicing up the waffle into smaller pieces
and threw it into my mouth. I love the crunchy sensation of the chocolate flakes
and I personally find the chocolate taste slightly a bit too strong for me. For
chocolate lovers, you should really give this waffle a try. The strawberry yogurt
ice cream, which is place on top on the last piece of waffle is pretty good too.
Since it's a type of yogurt ice cream, the texture is usually much more softer and
it's pretty much similar to small pieces of fine ice. I was simply slicing up the
last piece of waffle and have it with a bit of ice cream and a bit of chocolate
sauce. The sweet sensation was pretty nice and this is an indulging way of killing
off all the crazy heat.

'Peach Roselle Tea Sangria'
I have selected this beverage to quench my thirst. Basically the texture of
this beverage is pretty much similar to a ice blended fruit juice. However
the texture of the one over here is much more thicker and the taste of the
fruits are much more stronger, which is a nice alternative on a crazy hot day.

So where can you give all these waffles a try?
The name of this cafe would be 'Createaf Waffles'.
It's located on level 1 of 'The Cathay'.

Is this the King of Satay...?

Since I already had a great dinner, I was browsing around the same Hawker Centre, trying to look for something different to satisfy my big appetite. I found this stall preparing and selling 'Black Pepper Satays' and as I was about to place my orders when the helpers of the stall told me that all the satay were completely sold out. My jaws dropped... Since I have set my target, therefore I decided to go around the Hawker Centre looking for Satays and...

A plate of Chicken and Pork Satays and Rice
For a start, the stall owner has also added pineapple into the peanut satay sauce,
which makes it different from the usual peanut satay sauce. Just by dipping one of
the satay stick into the sauce, it have added a bit of peanuts and a sweet taste
onto the meat itself.

As for the rice, it was a little bit too small, but it definitely comes with a very
nice Pandan fragrance.

The succulent and juicy satays are something that one can really look forward to.
And before I forget, the stall over here are using charcoal to prepare and make
all the delicious satay sticks, which is a very big (+). I personally find food
that are using charcoal to prepare it to taste and smells much better. Currently
it's 50 cents per stick, but for the price that you are paying and the delicious
and tender meat that you are getting, I personally find this stall worth trying.
(By the way, the satays looks pretty attractive and delicious too.)

The name of this stall would be 'Chuan Kee Satay'(選記沙爹王).
It's located inside 'Old Airport Road Food Centre'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays: 6pm - 10pm
    Sundays: 1pm - 10pm

Tea With Greatness...?

Since I haven't been eating Macaron for a very very long period of time, therefore I was keeping an lookout for places where I can give it a good try. (In fact this makes me wonder, have I eaten it before...?)

'Japanese Houjicha Tea Set'
Since this was a reputed 'Tea' place, therefore my expectations for this place tends
to be much more higher. They are selling more than 100 types of tea from all over the
globe over here and since I wasn't a very big fan of English Tea, I ended up selecting
one of my favourite type of Japanese tea. And that would be the infamous roasted
Japanese Tea, 'Houjicha'.

However, the taste of the Japanese Tea is rather disappointing. The taste of the tea
is too bland and I'm not getting the nice fragrance of the roasted tea too. This might
be caused by either the amount of tea leaves that was added into the tea pot or the
temperature of the hot water that they are pouring into the tea pot. Either ways, I
think that my daily brew of the 'Houjicha' tastes much more better than theirs. Well,
there might be another possibility that they specialises in the Western Tea and not
the Asians type. Either ways, I don't think that I will give the Asian Tea over here
a try again.

'Macarons'
Currently, they are offering 10 different types of Macarons on their daily menu.
There's Blackcurrant, Rose, Camelot, Chocolate, Passion Fruit, Lemon, Vanilla,
Napoleon, Mint and Matcha flavours. Basically all the individual flavours comes
with a unique filling that is a mixture of tea and several types of ingredients.
Although I'm not a big fan of Macarons, but when I tried to use a fork to pierce
one of the Macarons, it split into half immediately. And as I put one of them into
my mouth, I realised that the top and the base of the Macaron was actually pretty
crunchy and at the same time not too hard, which is pretty nice for a start. Well,
although these are expensive bite-size friendly pastry, but the Macarons that they
are offering over here are very delicious and very suitable for High-Tea.

So where can you give all these delicious 'Macarons' a try?
The name of the place would be 'TWG Tea Company'.
They currently have a few branches island wide. Though it's stated island-wide but it seems
that most of the branches are either located in the south or central part of Singapore.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
Although the daily opening hours of the 'ION Orchard' branch starts from 10am - 10pm, but it seems that the opening hours of the individual branch varies. Therefore, it will be much more wiser for you to check the opening hours of the nearest branch located near you from 'The TWG Company' website.

Prawns around me...

As the government decides to build more and more HDB flats in my area, the number of eateries around my area has also increased rapidly. Although I haven't tried each and every one of them, but I have definitely covered most of the stalls selling noodles, Therefore... :)

'Prawn Noodles'
So what makes me a hardcore noodle fan?
Basically, I can't survive a whole week without eating any noodles. And
there are numerous situations where the whole bowl of noodles were gone
and lots of ingredients still remain in the bowl. (I knew that it might
sounds kinda funny, but that's the truth.)

Anyway, as for the 'Prawn Noodles' over here, I love the proportion of
sauces that he has added into the bowl of noodles. Even though I have
also sprinkled chilli powder all over the noodles, but as I stirred the
bowl of noodles and vegetables together, the noodles doesn't end up to
be too dry or too watery. I simply love the spicy sensation that the bowl
of noodles are giving me and at the same time, the noodles still remain
to be pretty tangy. (O.O)V

The taste of the soup is pretty rich in taste and the stall owner has
also thrown ingredients like prawns and lean pork slices into the bowl
of soup too. (Usually, most of the (dry)prawn noodles out there, the
stall owner will throw all the ingredients into a bowl and he will be
passing you a separate bowl of clear soup. However, there are also
stall owners that will be adding the prawns inside the bowl of soup too.)

Therefore, if you are staying near my area, I would strongly encourage
you to give the 'Prawn Noodles' over here a try. :D

So where can you give the 'Prawn Noodles' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Feng Zan Prawn Noodles'(豊贊蝦麵).
It's located in one of the coffee shops along 'Kim Tian Road'.

Notes:

For the Nonya snacks...

Basically with a big crazy appetite of mine, it isn't a difficult task for an individual to realise how much I love to snack. It can range from various types of bread, 'Kueh', tidbits, etc... Therefore since I am passing by this place the other day, therefore...

'Mini Dumpling'
Although they have this snack the name of a 'Dumpling', but I think that I have been
cheated. The overall texture and taste of this 'Dumpling' is pretty much similar to
a 'Lemper Udang'. Basically, the main fillings inside the 'Dumpling' are the pale
coloured spicy prawns. Well, although I loved the spicy taste of this, but I was
expecting a mini Chinese Dumpling that has glutinous rice and mushrooms and such...

'Nonya Dumpling'
I have to admit that the overall taste of this 'Dumpling' is pretty nice, especially
when most of the fillings inside the 'Dumpling' are mainly, minced meat and Nonya
spices. And I also love the somehow spicy sensation that the Dumpling is giving me.
But compared to this, I still prefers the other type of Dumplings that comes with
lots of mushrooms, mushrooms and ore mushrooms. :P (I wonder which is much more
important, the mushroom or ...? Anyway, I'm just being bias over here.)

'Nonya Kueh'
Besides of the large variety of 'Dumplings' that they are making and selling themselves,
they are also making and selling different types of 'Nonya Kueh' too.

So where can you give all these snacks a try?
The name of this shop would be 'Kim Choo'(金珠).
They currently have a few branches island-wide but it seems that all of them are
in the East of Singapore.

Prata in the North

Since I have the time and I suddenly have the urge for some Indian food, therefore I decided to travel a bit more and move all the way to the North. (Although, 'Little India' is probably half an hour distance away, but visiting 'Little India' on Friday night all the way to Sunday night is kinda crazy.)

'Chicken Biryani'
Although this isn't 'Dum Biryani', but the taste and the fragrance of the Biryani rice is
pretty nice. On top of that probably I haven't been eating spicy Indian food for a very
long time, but I find the taste of the Curry to be pretty spicy and the texture of the
curry to be pretty thick. As for the vegetables, there's merely a bit of 'Achar' but it's
better than nothing. Best of all, the amount of Curry Chicken that was added into the
plate of Curry is pretty generous and pretty delicious. Although I don't that they are
providing free flow of Biryani rice over here, but for the price that I'm paying, I think
that it's pretty reasonable.

'Chilli Prata' and 'Plain Prata'
So what is a 'Chilli Prata'?
It's basically a normal Prate but the chef has added green chillies into the Prata
to spice up the overall taste of it.

The taste of the Pratas over here isn't something that is ultra special, but it has
it's good points too. For a start, the Pratas over here are not too oily and the
texture of the Pratas are pretty thin and crispy. However, I think that the Curry
that they have provided doesn't quite fit in. I think that the Curry that they
have provided in the 'Chicken Biryani' was much more better.

'Mutton Murtabak'
The taste of the 'Mutton Murtabak' comes with a relatively strong taste and fragrance
of mutton meat. Besides of mutton meat, the fillings also include ingredients like
onions and various types of spices. However, I personally find the fillings inside
the Murtabak to be a little bit too little. Even though the fillings have covered
every single corner of the Murtabak, but it will be great if they can increase
the amount of fillings inside the Murtabak by a few more times.

So where can you give all these delicious Indian food a try?
The name of this Indian restaurant would be 'Casuarina Curry'.
The main branch is located along 'Casuarina Road', which is pretty near
'Upper Thomson Road'. And there's another branch located along 'Macpherson Road'.

Notes:
  • Opening Hours:
    7am - 12midnight Daily
  • Joke of the day:
After placing all my orders for all the food listed in this post, the eyes of the waiter were popping out. The eyes were popping out even much more further when I told him that I'm having my dinner alone. The friendly waiter suggested that he will bring me all the Pratas and the 'Chicken Biryani' first. He will only be serving the 'Mutton Murtabak', when I can finish all the food. In other words, I think that to a certain extent, my crazy appetite can really amaze/scare the shit out of most people out there.
