Another Interlude: Time for some Biryani

I must confess that I'm not really a 'Rice' person. My passion for 'Noodles' were far more stronger than 'Rice'. However, there were exceptions. If it is 'flavoured' rice like 'Fried Rice', 'Pandan Rice', etc... My tolerance for it will be far more higher than the usual 'White Rice' or 'Brown Rice'. And today's post have something to do with 'Rice'. :D

'Chicken Biryani Power'
Though it is still 'Chicken Biryani', but the stall owner has given it
a slightly more interesting name. When it landed before me, everything
looks pretty normal. There's a small mountain of 'Biryani Rice' covering
the Chicken, some vegetables on the side of the plate, a 'Papadum' on the
other side of the plate and a plate of curry. But looks can be deceiving.

Probably I haven't been having good local curry for a pretty long
period of time, but the sensation that this curry have been giving me
were pretty good. :D After pouring all the curry onto the 'Chicken
Biryani' and after I have pop a few mouthful of the curry and the
'Biryani Rice' into my mouth, it have created a few fiery sparks in my
throat. And rather than stopping me from eating, it have in fact
increase my appetite asking for more. :P Though the taste of the chicken
were pretty normal, but the taste of the side dishes and the curry have
definitely help it to gain some extra points over here. By the way, it
have been ages since I have last seen 'Papadum' that comes with such
a good crispy texture. Since I always leave the 'Papadum' to the last,
therefore it always ended up to be a been soft, but it doesn't happen
to the 'Papadum' over here, which makes it pretty good too. :D I wonder
when will I get the chance to try the 'Chicken Biryani' over here again.

So when can you try the 'Chicken Biryani Power'?

The name of this place would be 'Dil'B Restaurant'.
It's located along 'Changi Village Road'.

Eating Cold Lava

I was doing a bit of cycling from East Coast to Changi Village the other day and I decided to go with something different and at the same time special. Introducing...

'Cuppa Warm Lava Cake'
Basically it's a cup of ice cream covered with a layer of warm Lava Cake.
Basically it's a combination of both warm and cold food items combine
into one. Though the Lava cake is pretty bitter, but as you mixed it with
a bit of cold ice cream, the feeling isn't that bad after all.
(Trust me, I'm not really into chocolates but as I was trying this, instead
of putting a stop to it, I actually feel like giving another cup a try. :D)

So where can you try this?

The name of the place behind this delicacy would be 'Chocolate Origin'.

They currently have 2 branches. One can be found in Changi Village
(Shown in the above) and there's another branch in 313 Somerset.

Me Sotong? (Me Blur BLur)

Usually, when I'm given the choice of getting my meals from a Muslim stall, choices tend to be food items like 'Mee Rebus', 'Nasi Lemak', 'Nasi Biryani', etc... And probably this is my first encounter with...

So what is 'Mee Soto'?
Basically, it's a bowl of Noodles that comes with ingredients like
bean sprout, slices of Chicken and spring onions. What I like best
would be the spicy chicken stock soup that comes with 'Mee Soto'.

As for the reason why I'm blogging about 'Mee Soto' today?
Is basically due to the fact that after having my first attempt at
eating 'Mee Soto', I have yet tasted one that tasted as good as
the one written in this blog. Just for the soup base alone, I'm
getting cloudy soup most of the time. Although the taste is pretty
much similar regardless of the look of the soup, the cloudy soup
base looks as if the cooks didn't put a lot of effort in what their
cooking and the cloudy soup seems to have lots of small tiny bits
of pepper, chicken stock, vegetables, etc. :( Therefore, I'm pushing
this 'Mee Soto' now. The soup is both clear and it isn't too spicy.
Probably, everyone will like it once they have tasted it. :D

So where can you find it?

The name of the stall would be 'Mizzy Corner' and it is located
along Changi Village Road, which is pretty near 'Changi Village
Market and Food Centre'.

Note:
  • By the way, the word 'Sotong' in Malay means 'blur blur'.

Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme

I was cycling from East Coast Park all the way to Changi Village, looking forward to the desserts that I can get there. After cycling for more than an hour or so... we finally ended up at Changi Village... Yahoo~~~~~!!! Nooooooooooo!!!!! Starting from March 2012, Changi Village have been undergoing some major upgrading works.... omg... I was doing some googling and I finally managed to find the website for the 'Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme'. Through the website, one could easily get the latest information on the list of Hawker Centres that are going to be upgraded and the projected completion date for the list of Hawker Centres that are currently undergoing some upgrading works.

A good rival

What makes a good competitor good? Well, if you have seen the movie 'Chicken Rice War' before, you could easily identify a bad competitor. So what makes a good competitor good?

Before I move on to the step of explaining what makes a good competitor good, let us take a look at some photos of food first...
Chicken Chop Hor Fun.
So what's a 'Hor Fun'?
Basically, it's a plate of rice noodles that comes with a brownish soup.
Ingredients like sliced fish, pork meat, prawns, octopus and vegetables
were also included in it. I would highly recommend you to add some green
chilli's to eat to enhance the taste of a plate of 'Hor Fun' even further.

So what makes this plate of 'Chicken Chop Hor Fun' special?
Basically it is similar to a plate of 'Hor Fun' except for the fact that
you will be getting a big piece of crunchy chicken chop instead of all the
fanciful ingredients like sliced fish, pork meat, prawns and octopus.

So back to our main subject, what makes a good competitor good?

The name of the stall would be 'Rong Ji'(榮記).
Basically the answer to my question got something to do with the location
of this stall. This stall was located at Changi Village and it is located
beside...

'AMiGO'.
Basically, both stalls were selling similar food items and if I'm not
mistaken, both stalls have their own group of 'followers'. As for myself,
I think that both stalls were equally good though. As for the answer to
the question of a good competitor, basically the owners of both stalls
were busy chatting away rather than quarrelling and fighting away.
I will not be surprise if the owners were hanging out together also.

A fake Coconut

Usually when an individual mention about a 'Coconut Juice', probably the first thing that would come popping out in your mind would be a big Coconut with a straw and a spoon sticking out of it. But there is another way to savour your favourite juice and that would be...

the method of having it in a Mug.
Even though this was probably the easiest and laziest
way to savour a Coconut drink, it doesn't mean that
the you will only be getting the juice only.
Although the juice was prepared in a mug,
coconut meat was also given also.
So what are you waiting for, hurry down and grab
yourself a mug of Coconut juice and quench your thirst.

This stall is located at Changi Village. Besides getting Coconut juice in a Mug,
you can also place an order for a fresh Coconut. On top of that, the other drinks
like Pineapple Juice, Grass Jelly Juice, etc were pretty satisfying too. :D

Biting away Half of the Moon

I'm not really going to eat the moon. A small stomach like mine will take ages to eat one big Moon. Most importantly, I can't fly up into the sky and take a bit out of the moon. Therefore, I'm going to introduce you to a food and has the shape of half a moon. Introducing...

A Chinese Water Dumpling.
Although a Water Dumpling contains ingredients that you can easily get from a market,
it isn't an easy task for one to prepare/make delicious Water Dumplings.
(Especially, when I have eaten Water Dumplings that were tasteless before...
you will understand my feelings...)
As for the Dumplings that you can get from this stall, I'm not sure whether the
owners were making their own Dumpling skins or not but the skins were definitely
strong enough to wrap an amazing amount of ingredients.
On top of that, I'm pretty sure that the owners have been spending a large amount
of time making and squeezing out all the water from the ingredients, otherwise it
wouldn't be possible for them to make such delicious Dumplings.
The best part would be, each and every bite off the Dumpling, gives you the
feeling that the ingredients of the Dumpling is going to explode any minute now.
And that is pretty amazing. XD
So what more can you ask for and where can you find such 'explosive' Water Dumplings?

This would be the place. The name of the stall would be 'Amigo'.
It's located at the market at Changi Village.

A different kind of Prawn Noodles

More than a few weeks or few months ago, I had introduced 'Prawn Noodles(蝦面)' in this blog. Today, I am going to introduce a different kind of 'Prawn Noodles(蝦面)' that was a delicacy that can be found in Singapore. The name of the this 'Prawn Noodles' would be 'Fried Hokkien Mee'(炒福建蝦面).

Although, 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' was a common dish that can be found in most of the Hawker Centre in Singapore, there can be many different variations of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)'.

To make things interesting, I will be introducing not 1 but 2 different variations of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' in this post today. (Actually its because I was eating both variations of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' on the same day, that is why I'm writing both of them in one post.)

Let us start off with the first one.

This would be the first variation. Although this dish has a name of 'Fried Hokkien Mee',
there were actually a larger portion of Rice Vermicelli used as a ingredient as compared to the Noodles.

The dish in the above was prepared by this stall located in Changi Village.

This would be the second variation of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)'. Compared to the first variation of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' listed in this blog, this variation of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' uses a larger portion of Noodles as a ingredient as compared to the Rice Vermicelli.

The dish in the above was prepared by this
stall located in ABC Brickworks Market/Food Centre.

Although the 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' that I had listed here were prepared by 2 different stalls from 2 different locations, both 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' were pretty good. Some similarities between both plates of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' would be the use of some specially prepared soup as a ingredient. Although, soup were used as a ingredient, the Noodles and Rice Vermicelli didn't turn out to be very soggy. And both stalls were pretty generous when it comes to the Lime and Chilli. Customers can help themselves to the unlimited flow of Lime and Chilli.

Note:
  • There was 2 main variations of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' in Singapore. One of them would be dry, where the stall owners will use a minimum amount of soup throughout the process of preparing the 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)'. And the other would be the soupy type which is the type of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' that I had introduced in this post.
  • There was another variation of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' where the stall owners will use cubes of fried pork as a ingredient. I remember this variation of 'Fried Hokkien Mee(炒福建蝦面)' was pretty common back then, but it was pretty difficult to find it nowadays already.

Changi Village Famous Nasi Lemak Stall

For the past few year, I have making cycling from East Coast Park to Changi Village once in a while. Despite of the fact that I had been making so many trips to Changi Village, I had never tried the super famous Nasi Lemak Store there. Therefore, I made an effort last weekend to cycle from East Coast Park to Changi Village to try the famous Nasi Lemak Stall.

As usual, here are the photos:

...Speechless... Completely speechless.... The stall sells only Nasi Lemak only...
Chicken Nasi Lemak, Otah Nasi Lemak, Fish Nasi Lemak... all Nasi Lemak...

I think I should start queueing also... Just look at the crazy queue...

The taste is of the Nasi Lemak pretty good but probably I had high hopes
on the Nasi Lemak. The taste of the Nasi Lemak doesn't seems to match
with the reputation of the Nasi Lemak.

Delicious Bites @ Changi Village

If you have being following my series of post on my blogs, I was cycling from East Coast Park to Changi Village a few weeks ago. Hence, I decided to gather some of my friends and went to Changi Village for a delicious dinner. Since, the location of Changi Village was located next to the sea, it would probably be one of the places in Singapore where you can get delicious seafood at a more affordable and reasonable price. Despite of the low price, the taste and standards of the seafood were pretty high also.

Let's take a look at the images that I have taken that day:

Yummy Yummy, When it comes to seafood in Singapore, most of the time unless you
try asking, otherwise the most common way of cooking it would be with Sambal Chilli.

Its chewy chewy and you can eat and swallow it, unlike a chewing gum.
Although I'm not a very big seafood fan,
having a meal like this once in a while is pretty alright. :D

I love Sambal Stringrays. In the past before ABC Market located at Bukit Merah
undergo the major renovations, it used to serve one of the best Stringray
in Singapore. But, after making a trip there recently, it seems that the
store had relocated to another location and I can't find it in the market anymore. :(

Wao~~~~ one big plate of Cockles at a price of SGD$5. Fantastic
and this meal is getting more and more heavenly. Speaking of Cockles,
I will never forget about this post from Mr Brown blogspot.

Lalala...... Samabl Lala, another seafood dish that I loved.
In fact I love all the seafood that have a shell. For example,
Cockles (Hum), Clams (Lala), Mussels (Dua Tao), etc.

Besides all the Spicy seafood, we have also tried the seafood omelette.
This is pretty normal except for the choice of ingredients inside the
omelette, which make it pretty tasty.

Not just a normal coconut drink that was poured into a cup but
a real coconut that the owner of the stall cut it open in front of me.

We have also tried other delicacy like Sambal Kangkong and Satay,
but I had completely forgotten about the step of taking photos. TT.TT.

I would highly recommend you to cycle from East Coast Park to Changi Village to have your meal there before making your way back to East Coast Park.
Similarly, one of the best way to Changi Village would be the step of taking a MRT train and alight at Tanah Merah Station before changing to bus No. 2 and alight at the last stop.
