Gets more and more chewy...

Noodles are something that I cannot live without. When I'm hungry or extremely hungry, the first type of food that I will be keeping a lookout for would most likely be 'Noodles'.

'Fishball Noodles' + 'Fish Cake'
This would be part of my dinner the other day. I will
be going through the food items over here one by one.

Even though the portion of 'Kway Teow' that was given were pretty generous,
but there isn't a good balance between the 'Kway Teow' and the amount of sauce
that was added. The 'Kway Teow' ended up to be a little bit too dry for me. :(

The soup itself isn't fantastic enough, same goes for the fish balls.
But, I personally find the homemade fish cake to be pretty interesting.

Regardless of the way they are serving the fish cake over here, it will
always ended up to be super chewy. Not forgetting about the fact that
the taste of it is pretty fresh too. I personally felt that this is the
speciality of this stall as compared to the other items.

So where can you give the nice 'Fish Cake' a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Yong Hua Fish Ball Noodles'(荣华鱼圆面).

Simple and Clean...

After going around the island giving all sorts of good delicacies a good try, I need to take a short break from all these fanciful sinful delicious food too. Therefore...

The search for a simple and light delicacy begins. In fact, the choices are pretty
much limited and straightforward. What can be as simple and light as a bowl of
porridge. They are preparing and selling 3 different types of Porridge over here.
And they are the 'Pork Porridge'(猪肉粥), 'Chicken Porridge'(鸡肉粥) and 'Century
Egg Porridge'(皮蛋粥).

'Pork Porridge'(猪肉粥)
The name itself can be misleading. Even though it's given a name of 'Pork Porridge',
the ingredients used are merely a half boiled egg, minced meat, 'You Tiao'(a long
golden brown deep-fried Chinese doughnut) topped with a bit of spring onions. If
you are looking for a much more fanciful bowl of porridge, you probably would want
to give the other porridge stalls nearby a try.

Taste wise, probably I have been eating the same bowl of porridge for the last 10+
years or so, therefore I really love the taste of the porridge over here. Trust me,
I have given the porridge a try when it's warm or cold and the taste of it still
remain to be pretty good. But how to appreciate the taste of this porridge to the
maximum?

As for myself, I would beat the half boiled egg, stirred all the ingredients
vigorously hard so that it will ended up with a light yellowish colour and every
mouth will come with a nice taste of porridge topped with a bit of meat, vegetables
and egg. No matter how much food I have eaten, my stomach will always have space for
the delicious porridge over here.

So where can you give the delicious porridge a try?
The name of this stall would be 'Shi Fu Rou Zhou'(食福肉粥).

Ramen for a couple?

What kind of Ramen would be suitable for a couple? That would most likely be a bowl of Ramen that comes with a generous portion that can share among the 2 of them. And that will be the main subject of this post.

The interior of this Ramen place is pretty
much similar to the other Ramen place elsewhere.

The ceiling of this place has been
decorated with all these old Japanese posters.

I ended up placing an order for the infamous
'Volcano Ramen' of this place a few days ago.

They have laid a card on each of the table. On the card itself,
it have clearly indicated the steps of preparing and cooking a
delicious bowl of 'Volcano Ramen'.

The above shows the 'Volcano Ramen' that I have ordered. The chef has
added lots of vegetables, slices of barbecued pork and Japanese noodles.
The chef has used sweet Japanese Curry as the soup base for this generous
bowl of Ramen. The taste of the Curry have blended into all the
ingredients nicely. Furthermore, they have used the thinner type of
Japanese Noodles over here, which really fit into with the taste of the
Japanese Curry nicely. Best of all would be the bowl that they have
chosen to serve the 'Volcano Ramen'. Rather than using a normal bowl, they
have chosen a 'stone bowl' to serve the 'Ramen'. The 'stone bowl' not only
acts as a beautiful visual element for a 'Volcano', it can also keep the
food hot for a much more longer period of time. Interesting huh?

By the way, the barbecued pork that they are serving
over here are not only thick, it's pretty delicious too.

By the way, the 'Volcano Ramen' also comes with a bowl of Rice. And I just
couldn't resist the temptation of a delicious bowl of rice topped with lots
of curry. (By the way, they are serving 'Volcano Ramen' with 4 different types
of soup base over here. There's 'Curry', 'Soy Sauce', 'Salt Paste' and 'Miso'.
Being a big fan of 'Curry' I will definitely place an order for the 'Volcano
Ramen' with 'Curry' soup base. :D)

By the way, they have also provided various type of seasoning too.
There's 'garlic', 'soy sauce', etc...

The name of this 'Ramen place' would be 'Tonkotsu Kazan'.
It's located on level 2 of 'Novena Square 2' shopping mall.

  • 11:00 - 22:00

Not so much of Japanese but Thai...

I happen to know about this Thai and Japanese restaurant located in the town area. Being a big fan of both types of delicacies, I decided to give it a try and it ended up to be more of a Thai than a Japanese restaurant.

'Mango Salad'
It's in fact a mountain of shredded mango. The overall taste of this dish
is refreshing and crunchy. But where does the crunchiness comes from? On
top of the shredded mango, the chef has also added a generous portion of
carrots, fried shrimps, peanuts, etc... And since all of these ingredients
are serve cold, this dish ended up to be pretty refreshing and it acts as
'heaven' as compared to 'hell', which is the upcoming dish.

'ZENSO Ramen'
Pretty much similar to a bowl of Japanese Ramen, they are using their own
mix of 'Tom Yum' soup instead of the common Japanese Pork Broth. So why do
I link this dish to 'hell'? This is because, the soup is really very very
spicy. The taste of it is so fiery that to some extent I almost have
difficulty finishing the whole bowl of soup. (Even with the help of a glass
of warm water and the refreshing plate of 'Mango Salad', my tongue felt as
if it's on fire.) =.="" Ingredients like prawns, mushrooms, Japanese Ramen
noodles are also added into the bowl of Ramen too. I think that the only
thing that I can complain about this dish would be the portion of noodles
that was given. It's definitely not satisfying enough. :(

The name of this restaurant would be 'ZENSO'.
It's located on level 1 of 'Sunshine Plaza'.

The Happy Chef...

Before moving on to the main topic of this post, I would like to touch on the topic why I love to eat and write about delicious food that one can get in a Hawker Centre. Even though the place isn't air conditioned but it's one of the best places to find cheap and delicious food. On top of that, I'm kinda skeptical with the idea of paying extra charges for service charge, etc... Therefore as I dine out more and more, I also get to appreciate Hawker food even much much more. Therefore...

'Fish Schnitzel' with 2 side dishes
'Mashed Potatoes' and 'French Fries'
For a start, the texture of the 'Mashed Potatoes' are just right. It's neither
too watery nor too dry. In fact, when I scoop a bit of it into my mouth, hmmm...
the overall taste of this works as a great appetizer/starter,

French Fries wise, as long as it's crunchy and not too salty, I wouldn't complain
much about it. (Although I'm not so much into 'French Fries' but I'm pretty much into
finger food. It might sound kinda strange, but that's the way my stomach works.) (:P)

As for the fish itself, the texture is pretty crispy. Even though the texture is
pretty crispy, it doesn't have this disgusting oily feeling at all. As for the
of the fish, the taste of it is pretty fresh and the overall texture of it is
just right. As I dip a small slice of 'Fish Schnitzel' into the small plate of
mayonnaise and throw it inside my mouth, even though the taste of both the
mayo and fish meat are blending together nicely and it's giving this sweet
delicious taste, but I still think that 'Tartar sauce' can fit it much more better.

By the way, rather than serving the same sides dishes to everyone, you are
given the choice to choose your own side dishes over here. Isn't that nice? :D

So where can you give the delicious western food a try?

A slice of fruit roll...

There used to be a western food in one of the coffee shop located near my previous workplace and I was thinking of giving it a try. I happened to come across this 'Pastry Shop' located next to the coffee shop. What really attract my attention would be the fact that this 'Pastry Shop' doesn't sell the normal pastries like 'Kaya Bun', 'Curry Bun', etc... Rather than preparing and selling buns, it's actually famous for...

'Strawberry Mango Pudding Fruit Roll'
the wide variety of fruit roll cake. Each slices of fruit roll are topped with
a layer of powdery sugar. As for the texture of the chill fruit roll itself, it's
pretty firm, fluffy and not too soft. Here comes the best part, each individual
slice of fruit roll over here are wrap around a generous portion of fruits. The
taste of the fruits are pretty nice too. Frankly speaking, I myself love the sweet
taste of the strawberry and the mango. Anyway, probably due to the way they are
preparing and making these fruit rolls, the fruit roll seems to be melting inside
my mouth, which makes it pretty pleasant and nice.

'Yam Fruit Roll'
The texture of this fruit roll are pretty much similar to the 'Strawberry Mango
Pudding Fruit Roll' accept for the fact that there's an additional touch to it.
As I was savouring this fruit roll, there's this nice aroma of 'Yam' bursting
inside my mouth, which I personally like it very much.

So where can you give all this delicious looking fruit roll a try?
The name of this 'Pastry Shop' would be 'Naomi Kitchen'.

The hidden Dim Sum...

Have you given all the stalls in the neighbourhood coffee shop a good try? Sometimes, the food that one can be getting from a neighbourhood coffee shop can really amaze me. And here's a pretty good example today...

'Carrot Cake'(萝卜糕)
Most of the 'Carrot Cake' in Singapore are mostly pan fried. As for the 'Carrot Cake' over
here, it's the steam 'Carrot Cake'. Even though it doesn't come with a thin crispy layer
but the 'steam' type isn't that bad too. It's moist and not too sticky and not too dry. On
top of that, every bite comes with a nice fragrance of sesame and a strong radish taste
and a nice taste of sausages. :)

After savouring the 'Carrot Cake', the waiter has finally covered my table with the
'Dim Sum' that I have ordered.

'Deep Fried Prawn Dumplings'(炸虾饺)
The most interesting part about this 'Dim Sum' would be the crispy texture on the outside.
The taste of the fillings are pretty average and normal. :)

'Har Kow'(虾饺)
The skin of the 'Har Kow' are far too thick and the prawns aren't sufficient. It might
have tasted much more better if they have prepared a thinner skin and thrown in bigger
and juicier prawns.

'Liu Sar Pau'(黄金流沙包)
For a start, the texture of this 'Pau' amazes me. It's both fluffy and warm. The biggest
drawback about this 'Dim Sum' would be the size of it. However...

the fillings of the 'Pau' is delicious. The fillings are lava hot and there's a nice
balance of both salty and sweet taste. Just be careful of the lava hot fillings. It's
slightly a bit too watery and it can flow out of the 'Pau' easily, far too easy. Trust
me, you wouldn't want to waste the delicious fillings at all. Anyway try not to pop one
of these into your mouth directly, it can really burn your tongue. :P

So where can you give these delicious 'Dim Sum' a try?
