The Best Traditional Chinese Dessert Restaurant in 'Town'

According to a friend of mine, this place have been serving the best 'Mango Pomelo Sago'(楊枝甘露) in town. Without further ado, let us proceed to the desserts that they have been making. :P

Let us start off with the menu first.

On one side of their menu shows all the hot desserts that they have in store.

On the other side, it shows all the cold desserts that they have been making.

This would be one of their speciality - 'Mango Pomelo Sago'(楊枝甘露).
According to my friend, she had tasted most of the 'Mango Pomelo Sago'
that you can find in Singapore and she still thinks that this is the best.
(Like +1 ^ 999)

Just one glance of this dessert,'Chocolate Snow Ice'(巧克力雪花冰),
is already a bit too much for me. I'm not a big fan of chocolate
but this is seriously too much for me. My eyes were like @@.

I like the look of this dessert, 'Watermelon and Lychee Snow Ice'(西瓜荔枝雪花冰),
and the taste of the sago look alike thingy was pretty unique and nice.

Although, I have not tasted the 'Mango Pomelo Sago'(楊枝甘露) before
but I had tasted this 'Mango Snow Ice'(芒果雪花冰) before. And if the
mango that was used in both desserts were of the same, then trust me
this place is really worth trying.

So what is the restaurant behind all these delicious delicacies?

This would be the restaurant behind all these delicacies.
The name of the restaurant? 'Wei Xiang Yuan'(味香園). It's located near
Chinatown MRT and probably you might want to go there early as the place
can be very crowded at night.

Some extra info:
  • The logo of the restaurant might look familiar to you. Go to a big supermarket near you and take a stroll down the food/dry food section and you will know why. :P

When Black mixed with White, you will get...

Grey? Nope you are wrong. Take note that this isn't a art Blog. It's a food blog, Hence the one of the correct answer would be A nice Soya Bean Milk drink with Glass Jelly. Nice~~~.

As usual let's just skip to the photos.

Probably when I was young, I had overdose myself with Soft Drinks. Therefore, I had
restrain myself from taking Soft Drinks ever since 12 years old. Besides for the
Chinese Tea that I had constantly be drinking, one of my favourite alternatives would
be Soya Bean Milk Drink. :D Soya Bean Milk Drink can help you to reduce your
cholesterol and it doesn't contains Caffeine. And on top of the benefits listed in the above, most importantly, I like the sweet taste of the drink pretty much. :D

The Soya Bean milk stall that I keep on going would be the stall
"Teck Seng Soya Bean Milk" located on level 2 of Tiong Bahru Market.

Note:
  • As the queue were pretty long during early morning and Lunch hours, the stall will close once they ran out of Soya Bean Milk and Glass Jelly.
  • Try to turn up before 12 noon to avoid the lunch crowd.

Another 'Kueh' place....

Close to a month ago, I had mentioned about a place in Singapore selling 'Kueh'. There is another place that sells cheap and good Indonesia 'Kueh' also.

First thing first, photos first. :D

Left: Pandan Sponge Cake
Right: Kueh Dar Dar
I am making my way to Tiong Bahru Market and I suddenly
remember the existence of this store near Tiong Bahru Market.
This was probably my 3rd set of breakfast in the same morning. :P
But I just couldn't resist all these cheap and delicious delicacies
especially when these Kuehs were made from Coconut and Pandan,
which were some of my favourites ingredients.

They have some other delicacies also.
For example: Baked Tapioca cake, Onde Onde... etc

The store behind these delicacies would be 'Indo-Asian Delights'.
It has 2 small stalls located in 2 different coffee shops located
along the streets of Tiong Poh Road. And the main branch would be
located near the streets of Little India.

Misconception of Indian Food

Indian food isn't just about spicy food only. There were also delicious Vegetarian Indian food in Singapore also. Similarly, Indian food isn't just rice dishes only, there were delicacies like Naan, Thosai, Chapati ... etc. As for today, I am going to introduce you to a Vegetarian Indian restaurant that I have been going to for the past few years. :D

As usual food images come first :P.

Although I'm not a vegetarian, that doesn't mean that I don't like to eat vegetarian food.
In fact, I like the Masala Thosai here. Especially when the skin of the Thosai was pretty crispy and the amount of ingredients that the chef have stuff inside were pretty generous.
Note: Another misconception, Masala is a type of spice only. Therefore, if you like dishes with Masala, you can consider trying the Masala Thosai available at this place.

The restaurant behind the above dish would be 'Ananda Bhavan' restaurant.
They have a chain of restaurants along the streets of Little India.

Teochew Porridage for Lunch

While I was undergoing the search of the good 'Yam Cake' at Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre, I decided to make an effort to try some of the stalls there. This would be one of the stalls that I had tried at Taman Jurong Market and Food Centre. Since I haven't been eating Teochew Porridge for a very long period, I decided to give this stall a try. Especially, when the porridge that they have prepared had sweet potatoes in it.

Ya, I do understand that the pictures were pretty bad, but I wouldn't want to be taking shots in front of the stall. That won't be a very nice move. As for myself, I tried not to take pictures at a very close distance especially when these stall owners had to make an earning and they can be annoyed/disturbed by photo taking photographers.

This is it. After spending 5-10 minutes queueing up for the food, I have ordered a bowl of porridge and a few side dishes. :D After trying the porridge and the side dishes, this sort of explains everything. No wonder there's a long queue outside this stall. The sweet potatoes that comes with the porridge were neither too hard or too soft, which makes it perfect. :D On top of the porridge, the Fish Cake that they have made themselves were delicious. The fish cake not only contains fish meat, there's also some vegetables in it and somehow the taste of all the ingredients can blend perfectly together, which makes it ultra yummy. :D

Some notes to remember:
  • The store doesn't seems to be opened on Sundays.
  • Some dishes that one must try: Sweet Potatoes Porridge, Home-made Fish Cake, Squid

A Good Biryani doesn't need Curry

I'm not sure for the whole lot of you people out there, but usually I will eat my Biryani Rice with Fish Curry. By adding Fish Curry to the Biryani, it will also add more taste and a spicy touch to the Biryani Rice. But after making a visit to the following place, I was wrong. A very good Biryani doesn't requires the step of pouring Curry on top of Biryani Rice.

As usual, photo comes first

This is it... A Chicken Dum Biryani...
If you love Biryani's, it's a must for you to try a Dum Biryani.
What makes a Dum Biryani so special was the way they made it.
A real Dum Biryani usually requires the step of cooking the Chicken
and the Biryani rice together. It's very difficult to find places that
sell genuine Dum Biryani in Singapore nowadays, except for places like Little India.

Yes, I do know that this picture looks similar to the previous one.
I wanted to show you ingredients inside the Dum Biryani but I failed miserably.
As for the Chicken Dum Biryani that I have ordered, I was given a lot of Biryani Rice
and a Chicken Drumstick and a boiled egg. And trust me, the amount of rice that was
given was very generous. In fact, the waiter was trying to suggest to me some other
dishes that I should try, as he thinks that the Chicken given in the Dum Biryani was
not sufficient. Luckily, I didn't make an extra order, as I'm pretty full after
eating 1 Chicken Dum Biryani, without any curry. In fact, I was quite amazed with it.
This was probably the first time, I have finish 1 big potion of Chicken Dum Biryani
without the use of any Curry. Whao....

Video of the Chicken Dum Biryani and you probably have to watch the video in full screen mode in order to see the hot steam coming out of the Biryani.

This is the store behind this delicious Chicken Dum Biryani, Thalappakkathu Biryani.
According to my friends and through the Internet, the name 'Thalappakkathu Biryani'
seems to be pretty famous in various parts of India. Whaoo... Since the branch in
Singapore already tastes so good, I wonder how will it taste like in India? :D

Note:
  • They only offers some dishes during the weekends and public holidays. For example: Turkey Dum Biryani.... (looks interesting..:D)
  • This place was in front of the new extension of Mustafa Centre. It's not that difficult to find it.
