Playing with the soup culture...

Ever since the media started reporting above the trendy soups and the benefits of drinking them, it seems that more and more stalls in a food market are coming up with their own formula for their special blend of soup. However, this stall seems to be around for quite a period of time already.

In order not to waste the good ingredients that comes with the soup, I would always
order a bowl of rice to go with it, though most of the time, most of the soup stall
will only have the boring white rice... >.<""

Nope, this isn't a bowl of soup for rabbits... This is in fact...
'Spareribs soup with Mushrooms'(茶樹菇,冬菇,排骨湯)
There's a typo on the menu. It should be 'Pork Ribs' and not 'Spareribs'. A minor
typo can really stir a big joke. :P Anyway, let's move back to the food, shall we.
According to the menu, this soup is suppose to help you to build up one's health
and at the same time, enhance your protection from illness, which isn't that
important to me. Most importantly, the taste of the soup is the most important.
Loaded with a generous portion of vegetables, mushrooms and Pork Ribs, the sweet
taste of the soup is a (+). Besides for that, I wonder how much time was needed
in order to brew this bowl of soup, such that the Pork Ribs has changed into soft
bones. On top of that, though the carrots were kinda soft, but the mushrooms still
remains to be pretty chewy. Last but not least, the affordable price are simply too
good to be true. :D

So where can you give the soup a good try?
'Menu'
The above shows the menu of this stall. Though they don't really have a lot of items
listed on their menu but, the items vanish within a few hours.

The name of this stall would be 'Hong Kong Yummy Soups'(香港靚湯).
It's located inside 'Ayer Rajah Food Centre & Market'.

Not getting the free flow...

Nachos... I was reading about this place offering unlimited portions of 'Nacho', therefore I have decided to have my dinner there and at the same time do a bit of reading, but...

With a book in 1 hand and holding nothing in the other, I started pulling out
a 'Nacho' and scoop out a portion of 'Salsa' sauce and my teeth started
opening and closing, which looks as if I'm trembling. Though some might argue
that they are pretty tasteless in nature, but the crispy texture is a (+) and
there's always a good reason why one should have it with the 'Salsa' sauce.
Not only it's sweet, the sauce also comes with a flavorful taste too. Too bad
the portion of 'Nachos' over here isn't free flow, else I would have wipe out
a few baskets of 'Nachos' easily...

'Fajita El Patio'(Chicken)
The second the waitresses place this dish in front of me, I was @.@. Not only
I'm getting the sound of a sizzling plate of cooked ingredients, there's a
trace of smoke coming out of the sizzling plate too. I was pretty clueless
when I saw this dish. Looking at the cutlery by my side I was wondering should
I order something else to go with this dish.... However...

Luckily, the next dish that appears is this and by the looks of it, I have a
pretty good idea of what I'm going to do. I guess I'm suppose to scoop out a
few spoonfuls of yummy ingredients from the sizzling plate onto the tortillas.
After that, I can add any amount of 'Guacamole'(Green), 'Crema'(White) and
'Pico De Gallo'(Red) onto the tortillas. And not to forget about the greeny
vegetables and jalapenos too. And it's start to dig in...

There's a nice mix of flavors for a start. The sourly taste of the sauces,
mixed with the succulent chicken, topped with the crunchy vegetables, all
wrapped inside a tortillas. However, do be careful with the way you are
handling the tortillas. You wouldn't want to drop the delicious ingredients
at unnecessary spots. Though they only provide 3 flour tortillas only, but
that's more than enough to savor the overall taste of the dish and it's big
enough to satisfy the appetite of an average person, whereby the same rule
doesn't really apply on me.

So where can you give the 'Fajitas' a try?
The name of this place would be 'El Patio'.
It's located in 'Holland Village'.

Not just rice dishes...

Tekka market not only has Muslim or Indian stalls only. And rice dishes ain't the only type of food that one could find and get over here. You can also find ...

'Prawn Noodles'
As compared to the soupy version, I still prefer the dry version of 'Prawn
Noodles' much much more. This is mainly due to the fact that I can taste
the original taste of the soup, and I can savor the bowl of Noodles to the
maximum and at the same time, have my fix for spicy food.

For a start, the soup over here is pretty up to standard. Though it might
appear to be slightly a bit brownish or reddish, but isn't that the best
evidence to prove that they have used lots of red ingredients (e.g. prawns,
etc...) to create this interesting looking soup color?

Garnished with a nice layer of fried shallots, covered with ingredients
like 'Prawns'(Of course there's Prawns, otherwise it wouldn't be Prawn
Noodles), 'beansprouts', sliced pork and not forgetting sliced chilli
and powdered chilli. Though the whole plate of Noodles might appear to
be pretty warm in color, but it wasn't as spicy as one might perceive it
to be. However, the taste of this bowl of Noodles is a guarantee. With
the nice mix of ingredients, I'm getting a crunchy and chewy sensation,
topped with the nice taste of sweet and spicy ingredients in almost
every single mouthful of Noodles. And this bowl of Noodles was definitely
a pretty good meal to start the day. :D

So where can you give the 'Prawn Noodles' a good try?

Grandma's Mee Siam...

This just so so happen that the title of this post is actually the name of the stall. Perhaps the recipe for the food over here were carried down for generations?

'Mee Siam'
This looks pretty much the same as compared to the usual plate of 'Mee Siam'
that you can get out there. The choice of ingredients are pretty much the same
as compared to those that you are getting out there too. However, what makes
this super special, would be the delicious gravy. The thin layer of gravy
might look pretty harmless but the taste of it is pretty strong. And at the
same time, it still managed to preserve the unique and delicious taste of the
sweet and sour 'Mee Siam' gravy. Well, the portion of the plate of 'Mee
goes on par with the price that one is paying, but if you are thinking of trying
several delicacies in this market, this would be a good dish to start with as
it helps to 'expand' your appetite to a whole new level... :)

So where can you give the 'Mee Siam' a good try?

Not sure if this is genuine...

Signboards can be pretty deceiving nowadays. As I roam around the streets, sometimes I'm getting signboards of delicacy from such and such place. And the actual fact was I don't think such a stall do exist along on that same street before. Not to mention that it needs to be famous enough to be remembered by the regulars.

'Satay'
This is pretty easy, I just need to visit the stall once and I could give
everything that was listed on their menu a good try.

I have gone for 3 different types of 'Satay', which is mainly 'Chicken',
'Mutton' and 'Pork'. The portion over here are pretty average, but at least
they have managed to prepare it such that it has a succulent texture,
topped with a nice and good aroma of barbecued meat.

The 'Satay' sauce over here is pretty interesting though. Though it wasn't
a rare sight nowadays, but rather than serving you a normal bowl of 'Satay'
sauce, they have enhanced it even further by adding mashed pineapples into
it. As you dip the 'Satay' sticks or chunks of rice into this sauce,
besides adding a sweet taste to it, it has also add a light zesty taste to
the stick of 'Satay' too. :P

So where can you give the 'Satay' a good try?

Wings of a Duck

Nope, I haven't reach the state where I have a strong affection for the wings of a duck. But I do know that there are fans of 'Duck Wings' out there..

'Duck Meat Set Meal'
For a start, this stall has thrown in quite a bit of effort preparing
the plate of 'Duck Meat' nicely. All the different parts were organised
nicely. Though by creating an appealing look for the dish can gain the
attention of the customers, but at the end of the day, it's the taste
that really matters.

Over here, the taste of the sweet braised sauce has blended into every
single slice of 'Duck Meat'. On top of that, though it ended up to be
slightly a bit dry, but the chewy sensation of the duck meat still
exist in the plate of 'Duck Meat' over here. Too bad, they didn't provide
'Yam Rice' or the nice 'Sambal Chilli' over here, else the overall taste
of this meal will be much more better.

'Duck Wings'
As compared to the 'Duck Meat', it seems that the 'Duck Wings' come with
a far more thicker and stronger taste of the braised sauce. Though this
might look pretty messy, but nice taste of the braised sauce is a
guaranteed. :P Initially, I was thinking of keeping some for dinner, but
as I poke one into your mouth, I just couldn't stop myself from moving on
to the next one, and the next one and eventually the last one... :P

So where can you give the 'Duck Meat' a good try?
The name of this stall would be
'New Market Teochew Braised Duck Rice'(新吧刹潮州鹵鴨飯).

The mother of all bread?!?

According to the Indian dictionary, the word 'Roti' means a type of bread. But what has that got to do with our post today?

'Coffee Bun'
This would be their signature bun. I remember a few years back, due to the popularity
of the 'Coffee Bun', in order not to lose out to the ever changing food market, almost
all the bakery in the neighborhood are selling this.

But what's so special about this?
For a start, the outer layer was pretty crispy. In contrast to the outer layer, the
inner layer was far more fluffy. As you dig into the bun, you will realize that the
bun has this nice sweet taste, topped with the nice aroma of 'Coffee'. This has pretty
much explains the popularity of this shop. (When I was walking past the place, I was
like how can this bakery survive with limited items on the menu... =.=""" However, it
seems that this shop has been around for more than 10 years, which is @.@.)

So where can you give the 'Coffee Bun' a good try?
The name of this shop would be 'Roti Mum'.
They currently only has a shop in Singapore, which is located in 'IMM'.

Not a must to be spicy...

Probably most of the time when you decided to try this ingredient, it might ended up to be a relatively spicy dish. However, it might not be the case over here.

'Our Dinner'
After spending close/more than an hour for our orders, dinner is finally served.
Yes, we are not joking. After placing our orders and wait for approximately an
hour, we finally got our food.

'Braised Duck Meat'
This would be the main highlight that day. Not really sure how much time was
needed to prepare this braised dish, such that the taste and the color of the
braised sauce has blend into the flesh and the bones of the duck meat nicely.
Probably due to the fact that it was prepared for a pretty long period of time,
therefore one can pull out all the tasty flesh from the bones easily. Despite
of the size of that plate and the price that one has to pay for this dish, this
still remains to be a pretty good dish that one should try. But the biggest
highlight of this stall isn't the braised meat but...

'Clear bowl of Fish Soup'
This might look like your typical bowl of fish soup that you might be getting
anywhere, but there's a special ingredient hidden inside. Besides for Sliced
Fish, Sliced Tomato, Lettuce, it also has 'Sze Chuan Vegetables'... O.o""?
That ingredient not only adds a crunchy touch to the ingredients that you are
getting, it also adds a nice sour and strong taste to the overall taste of the
bowl of soup. Though I'm not getting the spicy taste from the vegetable but
this really stands out as compared to a normal bowl of fish soup that only
comes with a sweet taste. And by adding a sour taste to the soup can really
helps one to beat the heat. :P

So where can you give the fish soup a good try?
Besides for the special fish soup, they also have braised duck innards too.
I have eaten chicken and pork innards before. But braised duck innards, I
would really want to give that a good try. :P

'Ng Soon Kee Fish & Duck Porridge'(黃順記魚糜。鴨糜).

A pair of prawns...

Like the Chinese that has bite size snacks like 'Dim Sum', all the food cultures out there ought to have some indulging bite size snacks. And that has something to the post today. :P

'Samosa'
The comes in the shape of a triangle.

First of all, I loved the crispy crust which isn't too oily. Though the size of it
is kinda small but the taste is pretty alright. (In fact, if I want, I think I can
drop the whole thing into my mouth directly.) The filling comes with a strong
taste of potatoes, which is something that I like. :)

'Prawn Vadai'
This is the speciality over here. It looks pretty much similar to the Chinese
Prawn fritter. However, unlike the Chinese, the 'Prawn Vadai' over here has a
crispy texture but it's fluffy inside. Even though, by increasing the number of
prawns, it has pretty much secure the taste of the prawns in every single bite.
But as compared to the Chinese Prawn fritter, which comes with far more
ingredients has a much stronger taste, though it's much more oily too. :P

So where can you give these snacks a good try?

No more goose only left...

Due to relevant resources, this stall used to prepare and sell goose meat, but due to some restrictions they are only preparing pork and duck meat nowadays.

'Braised Duck Meat Set Meal'
The set meal comes with a plate of 'Duck meat', a bowl of white rice and
a bowl of soup. Too bad they don't have 'Yam Rice' over here, since I
personally preferred it over a bowl of white rice. Even when it's
covered with the tasty braised sauce, I still thinks that it's much
inferior as compared to a tasty bowl of 'Yam Rice'. However...

The cuts over here are pretty thick. On top of that, the moist cuts are
pretty tasty and flavorful. In fact, I can live without the salty braised
sauce. It's the chilli sauce that I couldn't live without. Though it's
pretty nice but the chilli sauce over here just doesn't have the nice
kick. Probably I'm just too used to the usual Sambal chilli... :P

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Heng Gi Goose and Duck Rice'(興記鵝鸭饭).

When everything looks so fiery....

And by having a fiery exterior doesn't mean that the ingredients are spicy in nature. If you ended up looking at a big plate of reds, don't be afraid, what you are going experience would most likely to be a plate of...

'Indian Rojak'
Started off choosing the usual stuff like ''Fried Beancurd', 'Fried Fish Cake',
etc... then I pretty much started to give up identifying the different types of
ingredients. Event though the shape of the different types of ingredients are
completely different, but the colors are pretty much the same. =.="""

One of the interesting ingredients that they are offering over here would be a
special type of prawn fritters that is made up of mini shrimps. One might ask
what's so special about the shrimps? It simply means that every single bite out
of the prawn fritters will be filled with a nice taste of shrimps, which is (+).

Besides for the nice range of ingredients that they are preparing and offering
over here, the warm, thick and tasty sauce is a (+) too. When you started
dipping the ingredients into the sauce and pop them into your mouth, Hmmmmm...
it tastes so good. :P Rather than choosing a plate of ingredients of a similar
texture, one good reason why I like Rojak would be the nice mix of ingredients
with different textures and chewing sensation. :)

So where can you give this plate of ingredients a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Haji Johan Muslim Food Temasek Indian Rojak'.

Mixing your own drinks and dessert at a affordable price...

I love eating. If eating can be registered as a hobby, I would gladly do so. And if you are a smart eater, you can easily find great places that can not only satisfied your appetite, your taste bud and at the same time it's wallet friendly too. :D

'Spicy Chicken Set'
Ranging from Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc... they are offering different
types of set meals over here. Since this is the first time, I'm coming here
I decided to go with this set meal.

'Kimchi'
The side dish that comes with this meal would be a bowl of 'Kimchi'. Nicely
marinated, the bowl of 'Kimchi' isn't too spicy and at the same time pretty
tasty. Too bad the portion is kinda small, but as a side dish, it has
definitely served it's purpose and bring up my appetite too.

'Spicy Chicken'
Surrounded with a nice pool of spicy sauce and at the same time covered with
ingredients like Sesame and Spring Onions, the succulent and tasty plate of
chicken is a pretty good deal. With this plate of chicken, one can easily
wipe out 2 or more bowls of rice. (It's just kinda sad that they ain't
offering free flow of rice over here.) However...

'Coffee float'
Though they don't have free flow of rice over here, but they do have free
flow of beverages and ice cream over here. For a start, I was trying out
one of the special menu for coffee floats over here. How should I put it,
though I'm getting both a sweet and a bitter taste, but this just simply
couldn't catch my attention. Though I would really want to give tea float
a try... but definitely not after a unique coffee float.

The set meal over here not only comes with free flow of hot/cold beverages.
It also comes with free flow ice cream too. Besides offering several big
tubs of ice cream of different flavors, they also have a machine that gives
you the normal soft serve ice cream too. Since there isn't a time
restriction, therefore you can really sit here the whole enjoying the free
flow of beverages and ice cream and chill the whole afternoon away. :D

So where can you give the food a good try?
The name of this place would be 'Just Acia'

Playing with Fishes...

Is it because of the type of fish that they have chosen over here? Or is it due to their culinary skills that might be super amazing? It's either this or that but either ways, the fish soup over here are pretty amazing.

'Batang Fish Soup'
Looking from afar, this already looks pretty appealing. For a start,
I'm really getting lots of sliced fish in that big bowl of soup.

As I pull the bowl closer, that's really quite a number of sliced
fish. I started popping one after another inside my mouth. Hmm, these
big, fat and firm slices of fish are pretty sweet. Even though it took
me a bit of time to wipe out all the fish slices but what amaze me the
most would be the texture of the fish slices still remain to be pretty
firm and delicious all the way down. On top of that, the soup base is
pretty sweet and tasty too, which makes this a pretty good lunch.

So where can you give this bowl of soup a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Hai Chew Fish Soup'(海洲魚湯).

Fanciful Rice Dishes...

Unlike a typical stall that focus on 1 or 2 types of rice dishes, the stall over here is far more interesting. On top of that it seems more like a typical 'Cze Char' stall rather than a normal 'Chicken' or 'Duck' stall.

'Oatmeal Fried Chicken Rice'(麥片雞扒飯)
This dish is neither Chinese nor Japanese. It's a bowl of white rice topped
with a Japanese like Fried Chicken Cutlet and crispy oatmeal bits. Besides
for the meaty bit, there's a fried egg and a small portion of vegetables too.
If you ask me, this is probably the result of the amazing range of cuisine
that you can get in Singapore.

Taste wise, it's a (+). Not only it's juicy, the Fried Chicken is reasonably
crunchy and tasty too. When you mixed it with the small bits of oatmeal,
the taste of this bowl of rice simply gets more and more interesting. As for
the fried egg, I personally find it to be a bit too boring. (Or probably it's
the meat that is far too tasty, therefore...) Anyway, for spicy food lovers,
do remember to give their blend of Chilli a good try. :P

So where can you give this dish a good try?
