2 Laksa...

What can you buy with merely S$2 nowadays? What if I told you that you can get yourself a delicious bowl of 'Laksa' at the price of 2(?) would you dare to give it a good try?

'Laksa'
Pretty much similar to the infamous 'Katong Laksa' that expects the customer
to wipe out the whole bowl of 'Laksa' using a spoon, no chopsticks will be
provided over here too and you will only be getting a spoon too. Though I
wouldn't say that this is a very big bowl of 'Laksa' but it has all the
necessary factors that forms a good bowl of 'Laksa'. The bowl of 'Rice
Noodles' topped with yummy ingredients like 'sliced fish cake', 'cockles',
beansprouts, 'Sambal Chilli', all surrounded in the tasty and sweet pool
of 'Laksa' gravy and garnished with Vietnamese coriander, or more commonly
known as 'Laksa Leaf'. Believe me or not, but in this small little bowl of
'Laksa' there's actually quite a handful of ingredients and even though it
wasn't too spicy, but the sweet and spicy taste can easily satisfy the
needs of a typical Singaporean.

So where can you give this affordable bowl of 'Laksa' a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Sungei Road Laksa'.
It has occupied one of the corners of the coffee shop, 'Jin Shui Kopitiam'.

Notes:
  • Operating Hours:
    Thursdays - Tuesdays: 09:30 - 17:30
    (Closed on Wednesdays)
  • The queue for a bowl of 'Laksa' over here can be unexpectedly long. I was queuing up for like 20 minutes...
  • One key highlight of the stall would be the fact that they are cooking the 'Laksa' gravy using a big metal cauldron, which is placed on top of a charcoal fire, which is a pretty rare sight nowadays.
  • Sadly, before I have the chance to publish this post, they have decided to increase the price already. Therefore, there isn't a S$2 Laksa anymore. :(

R.I.P...... :P

It rhymes. And the post today has something to do with the word R.I.P. And it's actually not one but many many R.I.P... lol

They have populated the walls over here with lots of posters that consist of all
these interesting pick up lines. I was pretty amused with some of the posters
hanging on the wall over here. :D

Most of the customers over here are going for the ...

'Ribs'...

more 'Ribs'...

so many 'Ribs'...
They are not only preparing 1 type of ribs. There's actually 5 different types of
'Ribs' that one can try over here. And I have given all 5 different types of 'Ribs'
a good try already. :D

'Signature Hickory BBQ Sticky Bones'
If you are into thick smoked 'Ribs', this is the thing for you. Not only it's coated
with this thick BBQ sauce, the overall taste of the 'Ribs' are pretty solid too. And
frankly speaking, the sauce itself is a bit too thick for me and in fact it's so
thick that I think I will have problem finishing 1/2 a slab of this.... :|

'Garlic BBQ Spare Ribs'
Out of all the 5 different flavors that they are offering over here, I guess this is
the easiest to be accepted by everyone. And I don't find it spicier and as funky as
the other flavors that they are offering over here.

'Tuscan Baked Spicy Spare Rib'
This is the most funkiest version of 'Ribs' that I have ever tried till date. Probably
because I myself isn't a big fan of Tomatoes for a start. But as compared to the taste
of the 'Ribs' the taste of the 'Tomatoes' are far too overpowering, which to a certain
extent makes me wonder what am I eating? A chewy 'Tomatoes' or ...?

'Spicy Asian BBQ Spare Ribs'
Though it might look fiery but the appearance can be deceiving. I'm getting the nice
sweet taste of the BBQ sauce but I'm not getting the fiery sensation that I'm expecting.
Pretty disappointing for a 'Spicy Asian BBQ Spare Ribs'.

Last but not least would be my favorite, which is...
'Smoked Peppercorn Spare Ribs'
The 'Ribs' comes with this nice blend of both sweet and spicy taste, topped with a very
nice aroma too. Personally, I find this the best out of all 5 flavors. It's giving the
nice spicy sensation that I like, topped with a moderate level of sweetness, which
makes this a pretty big (+).

The texture of all the 'Ribs' over here are pretty tender and not forgetting the juicy
and chewy meat that goes around the bones. In fact, probably it's due to the fact that
I'm ordering 1/4 slab at a time, therefore I don't have any difficulty ripping the meat
and the bones apart since they are served 'fresh' too. :D

All the 'Ribs' sums up to a 'Boney Hill'...

'Red Skin Mashed Potato'
If you are hoping that this would ended up to be pretty much similar to those that you
are getting out there, you will be so so disappointed. Slightly a bit more dry than those
that comes with a sauce, the ones over here has a thicker texture and it's much more
thicker in taste too. And not forgetting much more filling too. =.="" But it comes with
the skin too, which makes this pretty indulging.

'Corn Bread'
They should categorize this as a 'Muffin' rather than a bread. The fluffy texture that
goes on top and the nice sweet fillings that rest at the bottom, simply makes this a
pretty interesting combination. Not too bad for a 'Bread'. :D

'Soup of the Day'
Seems like a rich vegetable soup to me, but I personally find the next soup to be far
more superior than this. And superior over here doesn't mean that it's richer in taste,
I find the texture to be much more better too.

'Mushroom Soup'
The creamy soup that comes with a rich mushroom taste simply makes every single scoop
better and better. I wanted to go for a second helping but unfortunately this is the
last few bowls of the day, which is kinda sad. :(

'Coleslaw'
I wanted something refreshing and cooling to act as a full stop to my pleasant dining
experience over here and this has fit in perfectly. Though this still couldn't replace
a scoop of ice cream completely, but it isn't that bad either. :)

So where can you give all these delicious mains and sides a good try?
Just a signboard...

The name of this restaurant would be "Morganfield's".
The above shows the branch located at 'The Star Vista'.

An edible toy at Mac

How would an edible toy look like? This would be something that we would be exploring today. :)

This might look like a normal burger set but there's something different about it.
Putting the French Fries aside, the way they are serving the French Fries are quite
differently too. Served in a basket, the French Fries still remains to be pretty
much the same. Probably it's due to the fact that I'm ordering it without any salt,
but this isn't the most interesting part of this post.

'Create Your Taste'
For my creation, wrapped inside the 'Semolina Bun' are ingredients like 'Jalapenos',
'Lettuce', 'Bacon' x 2 servings, 'Tortilla Chips', 'Tomatoes' and also the 'Big Mac
Special Sauce'. Pretty interesting right. Some of these ingredients are making their
first appearance in a burger in Singapore. Though I have taken out the meaty patties,
but I have actually gone ahead an make this interesting burger which includes a
mixture of ingredients of different tastes and textures. Not too bad for a burger
that 1 could get in a fast food restaurant. By the way, for some of the ingredients,
the first serving is free, but subsequent orders are chargeable. However, there's a
maximum number of servings that you can add to the burger too. But some other 'fun'
ingredients are stuff like 'Pickles', 'Guacamole', 'Grilled Pineapple Ring', etc...

A beefy creation...

These burgers are actually created using the 'Create Your Taste' campaign of
McDonalds. Currently there are 4 outlets in Singapore that are providing the service.
And personally I find this more interesting than the toys that they are selling from
time to time.

The heaven of Skewered Food?

I love to eat Japanese Food. Therefore, from time to time, I will keep a lookout for new Japanese restaurants to try, and once I have the time, I will give some of them a good try. Therefore as for today...

'Cabbage with Japanese salt dressing'
The cabbage slices over here are not only salty, they are pretty
crunchy too. Not too bad for a start.

'Fried Garlic'
The size of these 'Fried Garlic' reminds me of sweets. And this is
the taste that guys would probably like. It's bitter and as you
started chewing away, there will be a nice fragrance bursting inside
your mouth.

Besides for the appetizers that are listed on their menu, there's also
an interesting list of side dishes too. For example, there's 'Karaage'
(Deep Fried Chicken), 'Chawanmushi', 'Gyoza', 'Hiyayakko'(Cold Tofu),
etc... And the specialities over here are...

'Tsukune'
It's not the 'Tsukune' but the...
(However, the rounded-shape 'Tsukune' balls are pretty delicious.
Hidden inside a layer of sweet sauce, are the juicy and chewy meat,
which is worth a big (+).)

'Skewered Food'
Besides for the 'Tsukune', they have also listed a big variety of
'Skewered Food'. There's vegetables choices, seafood choices and
most importantly, there's a big selections of 'Skewered Food', which
is made up of meaty and vegetables ingredients. On top of that, the
fatty chunks of chewy meat and pretty good too. :P

'Fuwa Fuwa Nabeyaki Udon'
The creamy Fluffy texture of the 'Udon' noodles are a (+), but if
you are thinking of eating more 'Skewered Food', I would strongly
encourage you not to order this dish. Especially when the portion
of this dish is slightly a bit too big and filling.

After giving so many dishes a good try, it's time to give the
'Desserts' a good try. And the sweet ice cream would be one of the
best choices listed on their menu.

The name of this restaurant would be 'Sumire Yakitori House'.
It's located on level 1 of 'Icon Village'.

Opening Hours:
  • Due to the location of the restaurant, the opening hours are slightly different. Do visit the Home Page of 'Sumire Yakitori House' for the opening hours of the restaurant.

Envy of the working hours...

The working hours of an average worker in Singapore are probably around 8 - 9 hours per day. And when I come across this stall the first time, I am so so envious of their opening hours. =.=

'Kway Chap'
For a start, the bowl of 'Kway'(Rice Noodles) ain't too thick. But I personally
didn't find the taste of the soup to be good satisfying. Yes, they do comes with
a nice herbal soup taste but it's simply not thick enough.

As for the plate of ingredients, it wasn't that bad. Comes with ingredients like
'Braised meat', 'Intestines', 'Pork Skin' and a 'Braised Boiled Egg'. Most of the
ingredients over here are pretty chewy. And each of them also comes with a nice
sweet taste of the braised sauce. Though the chilli that they are offering over
are pretty thick too but somehow I still think that they are lacking the 'wow'
factor over here.

So where can you give the dish a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Xing Yun Kway Chap'(幸運粿子).
It's located inside 'Tampines Round Market & Food Centre'.

The best pork here....

There are numerous stalls selling porky dishes over here. I have tried a few of them and this is definitely the best one. Not only this stall has the biggest range of porky dishes, it also tastes the best too.

'Pig Organ Soup'
I have actually tried almost every single item listed on their menu. There's
'Kway Chap', 'Braise Pork Knuckles', all the different porky soup, and also
'Pig Organ Soup'. Even without the bowl of soup, the different types of chilli
that they are offering over here are good enough to go with the bowl of rice
or soup. Though they are not very spicy, that the taste of the chilli are
pretty tasty, which is a (+).

The 'Yam Rice' over here are pretty ordinary. It doesn't comes with a lot of
'Yam', which doesn't excites me at all.

This is actually quite good. The uncle over here really throw in a lot of
ingredients into the bowl of soup. There's 'preserved vegetables', 'pig liver',
'meat balls', slices of pork, etc... I tried adding a piece of ingredient to
each mouthful of 'Yam Rice' but it appears that they is actually a much more
bigger portion of ingredients as compared to the bowl of rice. On top of the
tasty ingredients, the bowl of soup also comes with the nice porky taste too,
which pretty much explains why this is the most famous stall over here.

So where can you give the 'Pig Organ Soup' a good try?
The name of this stall would be '家鄉風味'.
It's located inside the coffee shop located in 'Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre'.

Noodles with a touch of Sarawak...

Been a crazy Noodle eater, as I roam around the streets, I will always keep both my eyes open big big, keeping a lookout for interesting Noodle dishes. Hence

Actually a few years ago, my friend from 'Sarawak' has brought us to a
place that sells their local speciality before. Hence I wouldn't say that this
is my first encounter with this dish.

'Sarawak Kolo Mee'
The plate of Noodles also comes with a bowl of soup. As compared to the plate of
Noodles, the bowl of soup is far more boring. =.="""

For a start, the plate of Noodles do comes with a big variety of ingredients.
There's a bit of vegetables, 'dumpling', 'wantons', 'fried wantons', 'Char Siew'
(Barbecued Pork slices), Braised Pork and not forgetting a lump of chilli. Out of
all the tasty ingredients, the one that leaves the biggest impression would be the
'Braised Pork'. I can rip the meat and bones apart effortlessly. And on top of
that, the juicy meat is a (+). The chewy noodles are pretty interesting too. In
fact, the number of ingredients given are more than enough to help you to wipe
out the whole plate of Noodles. Best of all, I only placed an order for the 2nd
smallest bowl of Noodles and I'm already getting so many ingredients. I wonder
how big the plate of Noodles will end up to be if I had went ahead and place the
order for the biggest plate of Noodles.

So where can you give the tasty bowl of Noodles a good try?
The Menu.
Look, they also have 'Spinach Noodles' over here too.

The name of the stall would be 'Yummy Sarawak Kolo Mee'.
It's located inside 'Tampines Round Market & Food Centre'.

Need a bit more effort....

I don't mind walking long distance to give different types of food a good try. However, the stall over here lacks a bit of something I guess...

'Bak Kut Teh'
Having this for lunch can be a bit too heavy for normal eaters, but since I working
nearby, I guess I should give this a try too. The preserved vegetables taste pretty
alright. The standards of the sliced chilli and chilli sauce are chilli okay too,
which makes me wonder how the 'Bak Kut Teh' will end up to be. The the looks of it,
I hope that it doesn't end up to be too pepperish.... :|

For a start, the soup isn't too pepperish, which is a great relief. But the meat
of the ribs are a bit too stiff. Since this is 'Bak Kut Teh' and in order to
enhance the taste of the soup further, they should have added the 'Pork Ribs' into
the pot of soup pretty early, I'm expecting it to be chewy rather than stiff. As
for the thing that this stall is lacking? I guess that would be 'Luck'. Positioned
directly opposite is a stall selling something close to a 'Bat Kut Teh' and it's far
more better than this.

So where can you give this a good try?
The name of this stall would be 'Xing Du Bak Kut Teh'(星都肉骨茶).
It's located inside the coffee shop located in 'Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre'.
